How is that funny?

Because everyone who's ever coded has at one point spent ages wondering what's wrong with their program, looking at everything until they find that instead of a semi colon at the end of a line they've put a colon there instead. Its funny because people can relate to it.

How is that funny?
My guess is it's referring to Social Network making it look like you can code Facebook in 5 minutes
(in before someone says they could code something like FB in 5 minutes because it's so shitty)
, when in reality even with simpler stuff you can be looking for some stupid mistakes for hours.

Kind of funny because it's true (movies make coding always look so effortless vs. reality).

Facebook in bulletpoints:
— Account, register with e-mail, confirm
— Accounts can be friends
— Fields for describing self
— Wall with posts
— Posts are text, images, links, embeds, friend likes, comments
— Stream of wall posts from friends
— cdn, hosted images, gallery
— Embed method autodetect thru templates
— Biz accounts with special fields

Yep, in RoR, that's at least about two months of full-time work for one person to end up with something functionally equivalent in prototypical form.

The friends / wall / posts / comments / likes thing is like a weekend though. That's actually pretty darn easy.

Edit: Don't mention the app framework, the phone jazz, the ads and all that, that could end up taking years.

The code doesn't work because he typed in a : instead of a ;

The joke involves the fact that a lot of coding work is actually just staring at a text file trying to figure out what character you typed wrong.
And that coding is a mysterious thing to people who don't know about it. Pretty funny if you get it.

The thing that amuses me the most, is that the cat isn't puffed up.

My cat wold at least puff up if she got scared or aggro. It was all business for the cat.

Why? The kid doesn't know any better, but neither does the cat. They are even in my eyes. My dog is the nicest dog I've ever met, but if I hit him as hard as that kid did, there is a chance he might defend himself.

I wouldn't have really murdered it.

probably would have smacked my kid put my kid in the GAF approved timeout for not knowing any better but i wont have an animal in the house unless it's trained to put up with whatever my child does to it. I'll be the one to discipline the kid.

i love my dog

The kids crying. The cat must have done something to warrant the hit. Celebrating a slap like that from the cat is ridiculous.

Now watching it, though, I find both hits quite hilarious. The kid got smacked the fuck up.

The cat is innocent. The kid is clearly a spoiled brat. Look at that room of his, the wood, the sheets, etc. Unless they were filming a 10 minute cat vs baby fight scene, I doubt they would have kept rolling after the original cat mauling that caused the kid to cry like that. No, that little brat is crying because he doesn't want to go to bed. Mid-cry, he decides to target sprinkles, to illustrate his rage to the parents.

Not even reacting to the permanent damage the kid more than likely caused. Sprinkles gently tries to put him into the bed. If that little pompous scumbag wasn't shifting his weight for a second, or third uppercut, he would have just settled into the bed.

Sick of this. This happened last Gif thread too.

The fault lies with the person filming it. They should have stopped the kid from playing so rough.

I stand by everything previously said.

There we go! So they were in fact both at fault, but the person filming is clearly stupid as they're just watching their cat bite and scratch their kid, and watching their kid hit their cat. Plus at the end of the gif I thought the person was moving to help the kid, but the just move to film his reaction. What the fuck.
