I'm guessing Va Tech dropped in the computers way more than Stanford rose

Edit- Looks like I was wrong
Stanford Comp average .82
Va Tech Comp average .62

This discussion on ESPN is so terrible.

Guy A: "You know, it sucks that LSU beat Alabama and now has to play an extra game whereas Bama gets to rest"
Guy B: "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BAMA DESERVES TO GET IN MORE THAN OTHER TEAMS, SEC SEC SEC"
Guy A: "What does that have to do with Bama getting a bye for losing to LSU?"
Guy B: "BLAH BLAH BLAH, SYSTEM EVERY GAME MATTERS EXCEPT GAMES LSU AND ALABAMA PLAY"

I am now irritated.

Is Guy B a old man with speech impediment?

Dudes, who cares? Georgia's not beating LSU anyway.

And if they do, their reward is Houston. So it goes.
It's okay, I prefer everyone thinking UGA has no chance. Most probably haven't watched the team play.

And of course I'd rather play Houston than not have a BCS bid.

There you go. Sounds like Stanford's in no matter what.

Ehhhh...

I can see voters changing Stanford /Va tech if they win the Conf championship. Certainly would help in their computer rankings.

With voters, VA Tech would have gotten revenge on their only loss.

I managed to forget who Craig James was for a few weeks, he's Guy B :(.

James is an idiot. "I still have Arkansas at 3 on my ballot because, herp derp, their only losses were to #1 and #2!" What he neglected to mention is that each game was a blowout loss.

Doesn't the NCAA and BCS defenders love to throw out "Every game is a playoff game!". Well in that case Alabama had their playoff game against LSU, they had their shot, and lost. You don't get a do over. If the Yankees beat the Redsox in the ALCS, should they play again in the World Series if it's determined they are both better than any NL team? If the NCAA is going to be too stupid to form a simple playoff, at least they should add a provision to the BCS that you cannot play in the title game if you haven't won your conference.

That was also irritating, he's really bad. I really disliked how Herbstreit tried to defend his horrible thinking tonight.

How the HELL did Stanford jump to #4 in the computers from #9 when there were NO upsets this weekend and only 1 team in the top 10 lost...

We might just be strong enough that regardless of how big VA Tech wins Stanford would stay #4

The SEC wants a +1 system, the rest of the conferences should join us.

ACC going 1-3 in non conf on Saturday with the Pac 12 going 2-0 has made the computer gap too big. Computer rankings won't really change with such a small sample size of games due to conference champ games. Stanford's got it locked up as long as something fluky doesn't happen and OSU makes the title game

edit A&H poll
Look at the conference rankings and then look at the week before. Pac 12 shot up and ACC fell slightly. Also notice that Va Tech at 8 is closer to the #11 team than the #7 team. It's just one poll but unlikely they can climb much higher there.

No they don't. They wanted a +1 system a few years ago when it looked like Florida would get left out of an OSU-Mich rematch.

Evidence that they have subsequently changed their position by down-voting a change in the BCS rules to adopt a +1 system?

Are you being Mr Big City Lawya, or do you honestly believe the SEC favors a +1?

All I'm saying, is that the last time it was considered by the conferences, the SEC was on the side of truth and puppies. Had the other conferences also been on board, then a +1 system would have been put in then and we wouldn't be having this discussion now.

Fuck +1. We need a playoff, preferably 16, but most likely 8 teams and reduce the regular season by a game or two with conference championships this past weekend. Could you imagine next week:

#1 LSU vs. #16 Michigan
#2 Alabama vs. #15 Wisconsin
#3 Oklahoma State vs. #14 Georgia
#4 Stanford vs. #13 Michigan State
#5 Virginia Tech vs. #12 South Carolina
#6 Houston vs. #11 Kansas State
#7 Boise State vs. #10 Oklahoma
#8 Arkansas vs. #9 Oregon

And the BCS/big conferences don't think they wouldn't make a shit-ton more money on this playoff with the TV revenues and sponsorships than they do in the 1-game bowl season?

So everyon and their mother (including people with the Sugar Bowl), are saying Houston wins Saturday and they are going to Sugar, so why are so many people in this thread denying that?

Not knocking you guys, just wondering why what you are saying is so different than the national thought.

How about, "Well the Big East is only sooo bad because West Virginia was only ~supposed to lose to LSU and not to any Big East teams like I thought they were going to. If they did, the big east wouldn't be so bad..."

What a fucking tool.

That's a lot of SEC wins!

Using basketball as a precedent for football seems wrong, considering that basketball teams play more games and play more often than football teams. A 16 team tourney would make it unlikely that a power conference or mid-major undefeated gets excluded.

A plus one would be a good start, though.

The only people who were saying that were confused about BCS selection rules. Houston is going to the Sugar.

There was an interesting comment tonight that, for pure Track Meet entertainment value that having Oklahoma State and Houston in the Fiesta Bowl could make some sense.

It would be putting an awful lot of faith in Houston though...

Also, if Michigan isn't eligible and Sugar gets first pick, what if they do pick Stanford? Fiesta then has to choose among ... Boise, Houston, & K-State?

Can't imagine them matching Ok State vs K-State...

Only way Michigan doesn't become eligible is if Kansas St., Oklahoma and Georgia all win. They'll be ahead of any 3 loss teams.
Who broadcasts the Sugar Bowl? I'm betting they're praying Houston loses next weekend.
ESPN has all the BCS games.

No, definitely not. I'm assuming they take Boise in that scenario.

Why wouldn't they take Houston?

(realistically, Michigan MUST have LSU beat Georgia OR Ok State beat Oklahoma, or they can't be in the top 14. They probably also should be HUGE Texas fans over Baylor).

It's worse for the Orange. Best case scenario is Va Tech vs West Va.

Boise is a more recognizable name, and another Boise-Big 12 matchup likely yields more eyeballs.

Now that I look at Michigan a little closer... If Baylor beats Texas, I don't see how Baylor doesn't jump Michigan and stop them from getting a number 14 BCS ranking even with LSU and OK State winning...

16 Michigan .4310 Computer Avg 15 Points .410 (current)
17 Baylor .3910 Computer Avg 13 Points .550 (current)

Man, how good does the Stoops firing/RichRod hiring look for Zona now that we're starting to see how many programs will be looking for new coaches this offseason? In the Pac-12 alone, a third of the schools will be on the prowl.

Urbs to OSU, too. The two hires so far have basically been home runs. Makes it that much tougher for everyone else, though.

To make up a .04 BCS gap, you would need to go up by .12 in the computers if the humans stayed the same. Not really possible with so few games left. If anything the gap in the humans will widen. Look at how many votes separate Michigan from the 3 loss teams.

I don't have much faith in Michigan's ability to win a BCS bowl. I'm not sure we really deserve it on merit alone either; the quality of Michigan's schedule was decent, but we didn't beat any top tier teams.

Also, is Illinois going to be able to find a better coach than the Zooker? There are plenty of vacancies this year that are more appealing than the Illini. For that school, there are worse fates than going 6-6.
