well, it kinda goes hand-in-hand I would say. The energy transferred from (background) radiation can have a similar effect by creating radicals. Normally both are weak forces in our daily life and our cells have systems to counter their effects, but it's thought that over our life-time it ultimately accumulates until it caps our lifespan*/our body aged.
*among other factors

It's just that it's ironic in the case of oxygen


Though maybe you also refer more specifically to UV radiation, because yeah, excessive sunbathing etc. will make your skin age really fast.
