College Football Week 14: "We've closed the gap!"

Everyone knows that Meyer is really just biding his time, waiting for Chip Kelly at Notre Dame to one-up him by stroking out on the sidelines before he packs up and moves to South Bend. He's just getting reacclimated to the weather in Columbus. :p
 
Dillon Baxter will not be returning to USC next season. Bigger bust than Joe McKnight, but he's only like 19, so hopefully he goes somewhere else (i've heard San Diego St.) and gets his shit together.

That would be a great over/under prop bet for Vegas. How long will Meyer stay as coach? Most OSU fans I talk to predict less than five.
 
This years set of Conf titles is pretty weird. In 3 out of the 4 major conference cases, there's a team that has a "bye" from losing again and likely getting into a BCS game, where the division winner faces the possibility of not making it to the BCS game despite winning that division.

1) SEC - Alabama (bye), LSU has to play (now, it's pretty much decided they'll be in anyway, but there's a .0001% possibility)

2) Pac 12 - Stanford (bye), Oregon has to play

3) Big 10 - Michigan (bye), Michigan State has to play...

It seems wrong that winning your division actually penalizes you in these cases by forcing you to play another game that you might lose, while the loser doesn't have to worry about another loss, injuries, etc...

I know to the player, they'd all want to play in the conference championship game, but it just seems off.

I remember Meyers Florida teams as not having a single NFL level receiver. Aaron Hernandez was the only guy I thought could contribute at the next level.
 
Are people actually surprised anymore when a coach lies? I would hope that Ohio State fans know that he will bolt for ND at the first oppurtunity

Bummed to see Mike Stoops wanting to be on that staff. Guess he's not going back to OU. From a personal standpoint, I'm sure his pride wouldn't let him rejoin his brother.

Why would he bolt for ND? Ohio State is his dream job and a much better coaching job than ND is.

Side note: rumors that Gene Smith is out after this year are floating around.

lol at Chip Kelly. I wish BKelly's offense was CKelly's offense though. (We had a shitty non-spread qb this year, though).

I predicted around 5 years a few pages ago but I suppose the over/under should be 4. Right when he has to use his own players he'll be leaving.

Because its high profile and big money and recruits itself so there will be talent when he gets there. Charlie Weiss and Muschamp do similar things.

Meyer is an excellent developer of players as people and teammates. He's also hard nosed and strict and that leads to good locker room discipline which wins games. But in his last few years, he lets players get away with failed drug tests, arrests, other covered up minor crimes. Meyer of 2006 would never have.

Saw this quote from Saban from 2003 on my Twitter feed today.. "Anyone who doesn't win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game." I assume he'll decline any invitation this year, BCS computers may as well not waste their time.

In related news, Gundy said at his weekly press conference that he will not lobby for OSU to be included in the MNCG, and that he would vote Bama ahead of OSU in the coaches' poll if he had a vote at the moment.

How the fuck do you break UF? I mean, a couple of sup par seasons is understandable, every team has that. But UF usually gets to hand pick the best in state talent and probably gets a fair share of national studs too. You'd have to be pretty incompetent to really fuck up UF.

I didn't have to pay 9.99 to read that so I don't know how true it is but I hope there is massive offense changes and not people like Wilcox bolting town to get out of the sinking ship.
 
This was on the Monday To Do list at DawgSports, thought I'd share:

Soak in the belittling slings and arrows of our neighbors. In case you missed it, we haven't played anybody, our offense sucks and our defense is overrated. If (insert jack leg blog commenter's favorite team) had our schedule they'd be in the Dome. Whatever. If my Aunt Fanny had an Adam's Apple she'd be my Uncle Fred. The reality is that we're there, SEC brethren. Deal with it. We won 10 games in a row. Unless you're coached by Les Miles you didn't. Put that in your gumbo and boil it.

My biggest worry is that LSU will be the most physical team we've played, and we're playing them after getting extra helpings at Paul Johnson's Chop Block Buffet. We're a team that's kind of banged up, facing a team that likes to bang other people around. By all rights LSU should run us out of the building Saturday afternoon. Then again by all rights Iowa State should never beat Oklahoma State, Eli Manning shouldn't have a Super Bowl ring, bumblebees shouldn't be able to fly, and Whitney shouldn't have made it past the pilot stage. Life is full of absurd and nonsensical things come to life.

And if Georgia does win, thereby sending 2 SEC teams to the BCS title game who didn't actually win the SEC, it is entirely probable that Mark May will fly into a 3 day rage that ends with him being gunned down by Bristol, Connecticut police while holding Lou Holtz hostage with a machete. That alone is reason enough for the rest of you to root for us, blog bros and sisters.

I hear ya, but barring his injury and migraine issues I'd say most people projected Harvin to be a solid NFL wideout.

We're also ignoring guys like Riley Cooper, who has turned out to be better in the NFL than expected.

Was Cooper even a guy that Meyer recruited? Seems like he was a Zook guy. Still, he was a good receiver when he was there, and has been good in the pros.

Give Dooley one more year, his rebuilding plan will be starting to produce (if it is a good one) and I like seeing Tennessee as an easy victory ( if the plan is a bad one). It does take time to build up after the loss of all those coaches and players when Kiffen left. Plus the injuries have been bad Fulmer was up and down all the time he was there (5-7 in 2005 and 2008)

Andrew Caldwell, Louis Murphy, David Nelson, Riley Cooper, and Percy Harvin are all active NFL receivers that played for Meyer. The first three were pretty much Zook guys though. Nelson was probably highly underutilized at UF.

I agree with your general premise though. Meyer started getting obsessed with speed and just started taking fast/small guys. Not exactly pro-typical NFL players.

You break UF by recruiting a bunch of prima donnas and letting seniors without leadership talent lead the team while you take time off to let Addazio run the program. In 2010, before the season, the highly touted freshmen banded together and refused to practice for a bit. Turns out it was because the 2010 seniors were being terrible leaders and just treating everyone like serfs. Addazio and Meyer (to a lesser extent) had favorites and let them get away with anything. In the bowl game, the seniors refused to practice and didn't even show one day. Addazio just let it happen.

This is a great hire for tOSU, while Meyer still has the fire. But if he gets a championship or two under his belt then he might decide to take a backseat again. If he comes in with the same attitude he left UF with, y'all are fucked.
