Ult is also unintuitive. It is difficult to use effectively and is mostly a pushing tool.

Windrunner is a good hero for people who have played LoL/HoN, and are new to DOTA.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times but what's a good hero for someone with little-to-none MOBA experience? I played a single game as Anti-Mage and had fun but felt very weak.

Ignore all of the ones people told you. Drow and Windrunner require much better positioning than you might have as a new player, and Skeleton King needs some farm to be effective and since Antimage is pretty much the most popular pick in pubs you will most often be naturally countered by the other team's carry.

Tidehunter. Max your first and second skill, get your ult whenever you can. Gush whoever your team is trying to attack, ult in any team fight with most of the other team's players in it. Can be perfectly fine the entire game with just boots and a bracer, and since he's support you don't have to worry about last hits. He is especially good for new players because he is naturally tanky so you can survive through positional mistakes and being caught off guard.

Lich. Get your third skill first, then alternate with your first skill, getting your ult whenever possible. Use your third skill to deny a creep whenever it is up, first skill whenever you need some damage and slow on an enemy. Use your ult on heroes when there are little to no creeps around. Again, its perfectly normal to see a lich with only boots.

Crystal maiden. Just level up your first 3 skills all the way, freeze and ice blast anybody your team is trying to kill. As long as your 3rd skill is leveled up you are helping your team. Don't bother with the ult unless their entire team is distracted because they will just murder you to stop it.

These are support characters. People will probably expect you to buy the courier, if you do, make sure you get a couple branches, and tangoes/salves for regen. If you use some of your gold income to buy wards every once and a while, and just put a ward on one of the cliffs next to the rune spots and put a new one when it runs out that is more than half of all pub supports do.

Odd, when my friend invited me, rather then show the Mage guy's face, it showed a picture of Ax for the Profile Pics.

Edit: Ah, Ok, if you use the console you can change it. Only 10 options though, higher then 10 and it just goes to puck:
dota_set_avatar 0 - Default
dota_set_avatar 1 - Crystal Maiden
dota_set_avatar 2 - Kunkka
dota_set_avatar 3 - Faceless Void
dota_set_avatar 4 - Furion
dota_set_avatar 5 - Yurnero
dota_set_avatar 6 - Bloodseeker
dota_set_avatar 7 - Lich
dota_set_avatar 8 - Axe
dota_set_avatar 9 - Pudge
dota_set_avatar 10 - Puck

Is battlefury worthwhile for Axe? If not, why?

Because hitting Q in a big minion wave guarantees you atleast 75%+ of the last hits, because of your passive.

I find that Axes W is underappreciated, I put it on a Sven in a teamfight, and he managed to escape, only to turn off his bracer and die from the the dot.

It's redundant. There are better options for mana management, and for straight damage.

Battlefury is for speeding up farming, and Axe can already solo minion waves at 1.

Its only good for troll kills really. Since axe is supposed to tank up damage, and has a small manapool for his main skills, the stats are much more useful.

I got invited a week ago, but i just got around playing.

Can anyone recommend me a ranged hero, for example i really liked Vayne playstyle in LoL

Going from LoL to DOTA, there is a noticeable decrease in spammable gap closers so you won't have anyone quite like Vayne. However, there is generally more crowd control so you can achieve a similar effect.

Check out Mirana, Viper, Weaver, Storm Spirit and Windrunner.

Thanks will do!

Leaving the Basilius Aura on to affect all creeps makes them harder to kill, which would end up pushing your lane. In the early game, the very last thing you want to do is have your lane pushed to the enemy tower - it's much safer to have the creeps as close to your own tower as possible without them actually being hit by your tower.

So you should really only turn it on if you are pushing a lane, since when it is 'off' it still affects allied heroes.

I just discovered Viper is awesome. Best and easiest carry so far against pubs.

Yea Viper is pretty good, also you can just his Q to harass people in lane and you don't get aggro from the creeps. If you grab treads and a vanguard you're quite tanky and with his ult it's pretty hard for anyone to get away.

Isnt Vanguard worse on ranged heros?

Yes, but often times Vanguard is gotten for the hp boost and regen alone and even though the damage block is half on ranged heroes it's still viable, it's for survivability for many heroes even ranged ones.

Probably cause they are noobs playing carries, which is my whole point.

If 'noobs' are playing carry and you go something like support then you're probably going to lose, if you play a carry then you have a much better chance of winning. The best way to win pubs is to go mid and dominate.

No, it's because they are idiots, period. They would fail as support, too. Just so happens carry is a more important role (in certain ways), so if you feel you can do it well - and there's no reason someone new to the game can't do well as certain carries - there's no reason not to.

Did they fix clockwerk yet?

I want to play him again.

He works fine when I play him. (Except for cogs occasionally being a black hole and sucking people in when I want to block them, but thats more my timing than anything. I've always been bad at cogs.)

Apparently the way his ult works is intended, and you just can't hit anything with it, otherwise it fails.
Ah okay.

I guess they didn't want to make it too easy to hookshot through your creepwave.

Does "anything" include the ground? Like, when hooking up or down a slope?

They might have fixed that ages ago, though, I dunno. Or maybe it was never a problem, although it sure felt like one.

Zzzzzap! Dazzle is so much fun. Fairly satisfied with my play for not having slept at all last night, though my biggest regret was not being able to save our Doom Bringer when he was inside the enemy fountain at the end. Shallow grave, shadow wave, urn charge, and then Euls on him to shake the last fountain shots, that's what I'd have liked to chain up. Alas, it's a bit of a tall order for my fingers.

Anyone have recommendations for what kind hero to get Force Staff on? Seems like it has it's uses, gap closing or potentially moving an enemy into your team if they are facing the wrong direction.

Would it ever be recommended on a melee/heavy damage dealer?

So back story. I bought WC3 and the Xpac at launch, and I tried some DOTA back in the day. I didn't play much, and don't really remember anything. Flash forward I tried to play some HoN over the summer with HoN GAF, but never stuck with it since my usual gaming crew weren't playing. Over the past few months though we started to all play LoL which I had played (more than my weekend of HoN anyways) during the beta. We are still currently playing this.

So I played my 1st match in DOTA2 this evening. It was a practice match, and while my bots won I sucked big time. I tried the Enchantress because I play Support in LoL about half the time (Soraka), and I was getting owned. This is definitely going to take some getting use to for sure.

Enchantress is more of a ganker than support. She usually levels in the jungle and ganks early game, but she becomes more of a support hero in the teamfight phase.

If you want to play a support hero with heals, Dazzle is probably your best bet. Be sure to get at least one level of Shallow Grave early on.

Force Staff is usually core on Windrunner. IIRC, using it will cancel channeling abilities so it could counter Shadow Shaman's shackles or Witch Doctor's ultimate.

I played against a Bloodseeker using it with his ultimate. It destroyed me every time. (I was Dazzle.)

Dam this game.

We are winning hardcore I'm 13-2-11 as Skeleton King. We have a feeder o our team but besides that we are going good. Then one of our carries leaves then we get decimated.

It was practically 3v5.
