Love Obsidian games, love South Park, this announcement is win/win for me. Icing on the cake would be if it turns out to be closer to an Earthbound/Planescape style game, and not a FPS RPG like FO3 or NV, but either way I'm there day 1.

Just have this image of a New-Vegas sized world but for Colorado and them doing places like Aspen, Cave of the Winds, and Casa bonita....

This pleases me. Dungeon Siege 3 was an inoffensively mediocre game, it's not going to rank up there with my favourite stuff from this year by any means but it's also not something I regret buying (5 times at last count). Even if this ends up being in the same category, I'm sure it'll be good for a few laughs.

Awesome I am a South Park fan the show has been on television for a while now and still holds up. I can’t wait to see what Matt and Trey do in the gaming world.

Just grab south park on N64 to find out :). Seriously though, while it's surprising and awesome in its own way, I'm a little underwhelmed by the reveal. Oh well hopefully this turns out awesome.

More like evidence to support that they don't like CRPGs.

The best CRPGs of all time were released buggy as shit. All of them. BG 1-2, Fallout 1-2, Torment, Arcanum, ToEE, Bloodlines, Gothic 2, Morrowind, The Witcher 1-2, and Obsidian's Mask of the Betrayer and New Vegas.

All of them. Polish is inversely proportional with ambition in CPRGs. Dungeon Siege 3 isn't buggy. Bring on the fucking bugs, I say.

Boom. Much love for The Lore.

This was my reaction exactly.

But who knew you could still advertise a huge surprise these days and still actually deliver on it. What an amazingly random and surprising turn of events.

I better be able to party with Butters and Mysterion! Mint Berry Crunch would probably be too overpowered.

Is it worth playing as a loot/aRPG style game? I love Obsidisan and Diablo style games but the negativity has kept me away.

This sounds awesome, and a great PSN/XBLA title if it is that.

It seems to be a full length title and I believe it was even called that in the description.

If anything else it being on the cover of GI should confirm it as one. They're not going to put a xbla/psn game on the cover.

insert nirolak making me look foolish by pulling a game out of nowhere that was on the cover like 2 years ago :P

I enjoyed playing it just because of the prospect of Obsidian using such a competent game engine in another more inspiring idea with all their creative minds working together on it. The price of entry helped too as it was offered to me.

I have to be honest.... I'm PUMPED!

Here's why: I'm hoping for being able to create a new character in the beginning like you would for any other RPG (pick gender, color hair, etc, etc) then go through all sorts of wacky adventures in South Park. Main quest where you fight Satan at the end? Side Quests with Terrence & Phillip? Putting a group together to go on some adventure? I'll take Butters and Cartman...

If done right this could be amazing.... but I will admit.... if not done right... disaster...

Sounds about right. Obsidian's involvement is enough to put it on my radar, they've never made a game that I didn't like, but at the same time I know not to expect something that taps into their true potential as a RPG developer. Hopefully this is a fun distraction, and just a prelude to something more ambitious. Plus, Obsidian without Avellone just isn't the same....

I fell in love with Obsidian when I played Alpha Protocol.

Not really a fan of South Park, though...don't know how to feel about this.

That sounds so unappealing. I love South Park, but as a TV show, not an RPG.

Anyone know how the project first came about? Seems interesting that Matt & Trey would partner with a developer like Obsidian who is known for deeper RPG projects to co-helm this sort of thing.

Loot? Not really. It's fairly pedestrian.

However, the combat is fun and the writing is spectacular for a dungeon crawler (though still mediocre compared with other RPGs). It has some great looking environments and it showcases the Onyx engine really well, though it could have done with a high-res texture pack for PC. I'd say it's worth grabbing on sale if you feel like 8 - 10 hours of hacking, slashing and listening to NPCs sternly saying JEYNE KASSYNDER.

Parker and Stone are massive gamers of the hardcore and old skool variety, I think the WOW PK-ing episode made that pretty clear :P

Whoa I did NOT see that coming. I LOVE South Park, I think Matt and Trey love games and will only release the game if it's good. I thought their Tower D game on XBLA was really fun.

Love Obsidian, love South Park, but I'm not all that excited about this. Weird.

An Obsidian RPG means this is definitely on my radar, though. Hopefully it's good.

People are forgetting that THQ publishing this game could be an higher liability than Obsidian in charge of its tech.

Umm... Hmm.. I like the sound of it. I love South Park, but this is pretty damn underwhelming. I was expecting something on that Kingdom Hearts 3 level.

Still veryyy lol worthy considering GI.

I imagine that if this makes money, they intend to keep making them.

I mean, how many seasons of South Park are there?

I also never got the impression that Obsidian was opposed to sequels, but that all their sequels just kept getting canceled on them/never offered to them.

15 I think.

How is THQ going to make the game worse exactly? I imagine they're only involved for their distribution and other non-game related services involved in launching a title. Relic games turn out great to amazing and they're much more under THQ's purview.

goty 2012 confirmed. Might as well go out with a bang, right? :D

This is fucking awesome though. They have include Imaginationland. Just think of the battles! :lol manbearpig the woodland creations! haha.

Obsidian do good DLC too, so sequels might not be necessary in the immediate future.

I know, I'm just curious what sort of scale and depth they're gonna try and go for.

Ah right, well I'd like to think that they were chosen because of New Vegas which would make sense given how successful it was. Maybe we'll get Fallout: Colorado?

Not the quality, its success.
