This is either going to be great or the worst fucking game of all time. Probably the latter.
Awesome I am a South Park fan the show has been on television for a while now and still holds up. I cant wait to see what Matt and Trey do in the gaming world.
More like evidence to support that they don't like CRPGs.
The best CRPGs of all time were released buggy as shit. All of them. BG 1-2, Fallout 1-2, Torment, Arcanum, ToEE, Bloodlines, Gothic 2, Morrowind, The Witcher 1-2, and Obsidian's Mask of the Betrayer and New Vegas.
All of them. Polish is inversely proportional with ambition in CPRGs. Dungeon Siege 3 isn't buggy. Bring on the fucking bugs, I say.
This pleases me. Dungeon Siege 3 was an inoffensively mediocre game, it's not going to rank up there with my favourite stuff from this year by any means but it's also not something I regret buying (5 times at last count). Even if this ends up being in the same category, I'm sure it'll be good for a few laughs.
This sounds awesome, and a great PSN/XBLA title if it is that.
Just have this image of a New-Vegas sized world but for Colorado and them doing places like Aspen, Cave of the Winds, and Casa bonita....
Wow. Surprised in a bad way.
Is it worth playing as a loot/aRPG style game? I love Obsidisan and Diablo style games but the negativity has kept me away.
ok this is definitely a surprise... now VGAs, don't let me down on the "PS3 exclusive you won't believe"
Geoff Keighly delivering on hype would be way more shocking than any game announcement could possibly ever be,

That sounds so unappealing. I love South Park, but as a TV show, not an RPG.Just have this image of a New-Vegas sized world but for Colorado and them doing places like Aspen, Cave of the Winds, and Casa bonita....

Anyone know how the project first came about? Seems interesting that Matt & Trey would partner with a developer like Obsidian who is known for deeper RPG projects to co-helm this sort of thing.
I better be able to party with Butters and Mysterion! Mint Berry Crunch would probably be too overpowered.
Parker and Stone are massive gamers of the hardcore and old skool variety, I think the WOW PK-ing episode made that pretty clear![]()
Sounds about right. Obsidian's involvement is enough to put it on my radar, they've never made a game that I didn't like, but at the same time I know not to expect something that taps into their true potential as a RPG developer. Hopefully this is a fun distraction, and just a prelude to something more ambitious. Plus, Obsidian without Avellone just isn't the same....
I imagine that if this makes money, they intend to keep making them.
I mean, how many seasons of South Park are there?
I also never got the impression that Obsidian was opposed to sequels, but that all their sequels just kept getting canceled on them/never offered to them.
Umm... Hmm.. I like the sound of it. I love South Park, but this is pretty damn underwhelming. I was expecting something on that Kingdom Hearts 3 level.
People are forgetting that THQ publishing this game could be an higher liability than Obsidian in charge of its tech.
I know, I'm just curious what sort of scale and depth they're gonna try and go for.
THQ Joins Forces with South Park Digital Studios on “South Park: The Game”
Matt Stone and Trey Parker Collaborating with THQ and Obsidian Entertainment
AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--THQ (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced that they are collaborating with South Park Digital Studios LLC, the joint venture between “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker and Viacom Media Networks and Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. to develop the next chapter in South Park entertainment: “South Park: The Game.”
“South Park: The Game” is an epic role-playing adventure that will allow the user to befriend Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny and explore the quiet little mountain town like never before.
“Our goal is simple: to put creative talent first,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. “Matt and Trey are arguably two of the most important comedic talents of their generation. Bringing their vision of South Park to the interactive space is a dream-come-true.”
The first details of “South Park: The Game” will be revealed in the exclusive cover story in Game Informer®’s January issue, shipping to subscribers in early December 2011.
“South Park: The Game” is scheduled to be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC in the second half of calendar 2012.
How is THQ going to make the game worse exactly? I imagine they're only involved for their distribution and other non-game related services involved in launching a title. Relic games turn out great to amazing and they're much more under THQ's purview.
