RE: OpRainfall....

Looking back over this year, isn't it kind of amazing that Nintendo fans had their own Arab Spring or Occupy Wall Street? :P

As charming as they became, the constantly repeated vocal samples (AIR SLASH! RIKI SNEAKY!) gave me a new appreciation for RPGs that don't have their characters yell out move names. Can you imagine how infuriating World of Warcraft would be if your Mage yelled "FIREBALL" every time you hit the 1 key?

I've seen a lot of poorly organized "Please Bring This Game to the States" movements that ended in failure due to immaturity and overall naiveness from those in charge.

Operation Rainfall was not like that. I've followed their campaign closely form the beginning and they approached the situation in a mature and professional manner. Bravo.

Ah, I see.

I guess that's why the Mother 3 campaign never had any success.

The Japanese battle banter is even more annoying then the English banter.
I actually really liked the battle banter, made it really feel like a cohesive team, even if they all only had like 10 lines each.

Edit: The Mother 3 campaign was, by a huge margin, the most impressive fan project and marketing effort I have ever seen.

Mother 3 likely failed more because of the failure of the prior game and the release timing. Had it come out something like two or three years earlier, or had hit the N64 like initially planned, we'd have more likely seen it. Especially N64, maybe the issues that plague re-releasing Earthbound now would less likely cause problems in the late 90s. Xenoblade meanwhile managed to hit before the successor got to come out, let alone be on the market for over a year, so it remained a relevant possiblity. Especially since I imagine being in Japan too long isn't as big a deal on the Wii as 360 or PS3.

Of course they fucking knew that.

I can't believe you people thought it would never come. This ain't no captain rainbow.

The manner of its release suggests that it's a genuine response to fan demand and not something that they had in the pipeline this whole time but were too Nintendo to ever acknowledge.

No they won't.

Yes they will. I've ordered a ridiculous amount of stuff from them in the last few years. Just recently, I've ordered the Tron Collector's Edition Blu-Ray with no problems. I have quite a few games on pre-order (including Diablo 3 Collector's Edition and Star Wars: The Old Republic) as well. My roommate and I order from them at least once a month. My roommate recently purchased Arkham City for the 360 from them. If Amazon had it, I'd be able to get a copy.

This game is going to be much more rare than Metroid Prime Trilogy and every major retailer carried that game. I need to get Xenoblade day one.

It probably won't be if it does well enough... But being better safe than sorry makes that more likely! Getting the import for Christmas (I think it shipped YESTERDAY hilariously enough) but I'd still like to have this for Wii U.

I hope we won't see Gamestop's logos all over the box, I'd be pissed.

Ironically, their motto would be so fitting considering how the game is getting to America.
Hah! True that! XD

It's actually used as a HUD replacement. Without having Tales style popups that tell you what your team mates are doing (which would not be viable given how busy the HUD and the game screen is already), there's no way for you to tell what your team mates are doing at any given time without them shouting out what they're doing.

It's actually quite clever (and has the added effect of making you feel like you're part of a team)

Good thing I waited. Hope that it gets at least decent sales, especially with the outcry for this release. If it totally bombas... well, let's hope it doesn't have that outcome.

Although I'd love it to be this amazing success that makes NoA rethink how they approach these games, doing enough to justify bringing out would probably be enough to guarantee other Monolith games as well as Last Story, or so I'd think.

Here's a question:

Which is the better RPG. Skyrim or Xenoblade?

a question that goes places! let's not go those places..

I tried... too much talking, too many NPCs. I like my games straight gameplay, I don't mind a few NPCs with one-liners, but I prefer the old Dragon Warrior, FF games up to VII(it was the beginning of RPG fluff though - too much story), I like DQVIII, and a few others.

i feel like we share similar opinions on talking in games. there's a bit of talking in this, but in-game it's quite minimal and so far (about 40 hours in) no 30 minute cutscene fests that i can recall. certainly nothing that got irritating for me. there's literally shitloads of npcs with quests to go on but none of them are necessary, you could pretty much bypass them all and still be appropriately levelled and equipped to beat the game. trying to do them all gets you overlelled pretty quickly.

Shulk, Dunban and Riki sound specially annoying in Japanese.

oh god riki. he seemed like he'd be interesting to main but my ears, they cannot take it. if he's just in the party and not leading it's somewhat less grating.

It will bomba, it's a niche market for a game on a dying system, so savor this while u can

Are you one of these doom and gloom prophets?

I did talked A LOT about Xenoblade to my friends/people at my job, they were intrigued but most part of them weren't interested because they didn't wanted to import/mod. Now...hahahaha...NOW they can't say shit and I'll force them to buy it, AND THEY'LL LIKE IT! Seriously I'll encourage people to buy this game as much as I can, it deserves it.

Not into RPGs, and I would've vastly preferred Reginleiv, Pandora's Tower, or Fire Emblem DS 2. That said, congrats to the Rainfall people. Organizing a massive pre-order campaign to show financial commitment to a title was pretty smart.

It also greatly beat NOE's sales expectations, resulting in mass shortages...

Nintendo of Europe probably miscalculated by assuming only Europeans would buy it. Then Americans imported, so it's only fair that Europeans return the favor and import the American version to assure its success.

Doesn't make sense since it sold out in countries other than the UK (which is where the US folks would've gotten their copies from)

Plus it sold out in UK retail B&M stores (and no, they wouldn't have sold them to US folks either), not just at online retailers.

I doubt that any significant number of US folks imported the game really.

Although, speaking of that pre-order campaign, Nintendo is being pretty stupid by not selling it on Amazon (where people have already put their pre-orders in for purchase!)

RPGCrazied preordered it online and was freaking out that it would never arrive and people were poking fun, so another person sold them a copy in the States. Then his UK copy arrived. lol

And he still has almost 300 more posts than the next most prolific poster in the Xenoblade OT, despite finishing it incredibly quickly after he finally received it.

I have this suspicion it's coming out PARTIALLY due to GameStop, like they worked out an arrangement to partially fund production and whatnot if they were the only ones (along with Nintendo themselves) to sell it. Or a lot of other retailers like Walmart didn't want to carry it AT ALL so GameStop pursued exclusivity as a result, realizing there was demand afterall.

At the least I'd hate it if it WAS planned all along then GameStop secured exclusivity due to the demand (or worse, just 'cuz), but given how bad the situation looked I think it's more likely part of an effort to actually have it out here.

Great news for Americans. Buy this game, it's the best jRPG made in the last 10 years, hands down.

I'd recommend to mod your Wii and install it on a HDD - the loading times are nicely reduced when jumping from the menus to the character affinity screens and while doing quick traveling.

The only thing I'd wish in the game is faster running speed in towns (jeesus christ at the
High Entia capital
) and the possibility to turn off battle voices for individual characters
