Never heard about the putty work around, interesting.

About the orange and what said about fixing it is why I think offering the service is pretty brazen and stupid. Openly doing things to annoy ICE is never a great idea.

But I always amke sure my airsoft guns have blaze orange everything and I've never used them to shoot drunk bros.

Random post:

When it is rainy and you dont feel like driving to the range. Having a nice .22 air rifle and some empty cants to shoot is very cathartic.
 
So store I went to sold out of their special 1911's before the sale even started... good job guys.

Anyways did get a good deal on a used Springfield 1911 A1 that was in cherry condition, and came with everything like new. Hope to take it out to the range this weekend.

Best thing was the gun came with triljcon night sights in fine working order. It was an old police gun. Love the weight, safeties, and ease of use. Good companion to the 1911. Will make for some fun comparison testing.

Recently I asked for a suggestion as far as a "learning" gun, and am slowly settling on the Ruger 22/45 shown here. I know this is getting in over my head since I am so new to this, but how would one pick out accessories, such as a laser sight or suppressor? I doubt I would ever get either, but I would still like to be educated on them for potential purchase in the future. I'm aware about the additional regulations on suppressors and am more curious about laser sights. Any advice is appreciated.

Learn on iron sights.

Basics first. Iron sights never lose battery power.

Unless you want to do some IPSC stuff, then get a red dot.
 
With any luck tonight I should be trading the Nagant (which is fine, but a pain to clean and such) for a Pardner Pump Shotgun 12ga (and maybe some other long guns). I was able to offer my Friday the 13th coffee table book as part of the trade. lol

I'm planning on converting it to a HD shotgun. Best is barring the barrel it takes any addons that work on the Rem 870.

That barrel is a little too short. Fine for plinking, but for target practice and I would recommend the Target model, which comes with real, adjustable iron sights.

Also, I hate the 45 grip for anything else than plinking with both hands. Mark III all the way, even if it looks a bit awkward.


Edit: Ruger's 22 are fine pistols, but get ready to spend a little time during your first clean ups. Putting them back together is a real bitch at first.

To follow this up, where do you (and others) purchase guns and ammo? I am looking locally to get hands-on for picking my first gun, but am wondering if making an actual purchase online may be cheaper? Admittedly, I prefer to support local small stores when possible, but if online stores offer a significant discount, I could be swayed.

Yuropean here, but cheaperthandirt.com has some great prices. My friends pick their stuff there for whenever I visit.
 
I should be acquiring a Rem 870 clone (NEF/H&R) in the next few days. Now I don't recall offhand what the barrel length is (hunting or already HD). So I figure besides first getting the barrel cut to an HD length if need be (how much does that tend to run?), what other mods/accessories do I need for a good HD shotgun? I'm essentially trying to make a custom job HD shotgun.

It depends on where you are in Illinois. Firearms purchases outside of Cook County are apparently not that bad.

I had a chance to test out my new (traded the Nagant for it) NEF Pardner Pump Protector...so much fun to shoot and it's really a great home defense gun. Regular buck just destroyed the target I had at the range at 5 and 10 feet.

I shot various guns for the first time this weekend in Las Vegas. Here's what they don't tell you in school:

Shooting guns is a lot of fun! They basically sell themselves if they're put in your hand.

I shot the M4 with a red dot sight, a Mossburg pump action shotgun (damn), the M40, the MP5, the P90 (sweet), the Glock 9mm, and we even got to try a Browning 1919 (in the dark, no less!) Watched my friends shoot a bunch of other models as well.

We left feeling so pumped! There are no gun shops or ranges aloud in the Toronto city limits (by-laws) but if there were I would pick up a Glock right away. Felt so great shooting that handgun.

Guns. There's something the States does good - I say hell ya!

I take it if you were in Vegas you went to The Gun Store, the employees are really good there and the place is a blast, very well run.

Also the bolded is soooo true, sadly most people are too scared to fire one and pretty much write them off as death machines with what they hear in the media. :/

But glad you got to shoot them and really enjoyed yourself.

A marlin 22 or a ruger 10/22 would be a good choice for a cheap rifle. They are super solid long guns and .22 ammo is dirt cheap. Will let you get lots of practice and hands on time for you to decide if you want to step up to a larger rifle/caliber. Can't go wrong with the marlin or the ruger, the ruger may have more accessories available to customize your 10/22 though.

Technically he could always go the C&R route and get a Nagant or Mauser.
 
Got to finally take out my new purchases. The 1911 is truly a dream to shoot, such an amazing gun. Everyone who tried it out was also really impressed with it who never shot one. Classic gun no doubt.

The M4 performing great, really like it but I have a soft spot for the Ak with it's sheer simplicity and reliability.

I have't been through the entire thread yet, but are there places that will store your gun for you and are easily accessible if I ever need it?

Some ranges do that for a nominal fee.
 
Finally going shooting for the first time Wednesday.

One of my cousin is a big gun nut and he works for private military contractors (all I know is his company helped make the Predator UAV or make part of it) so he gets to know people who have the good stuff.

We're going to have all sorts of pistols, a Mosin Nagant, M1A, 10/22, SKS rifle, and possibly more.
 
Man, shooting is a whole lot of fun. I can get on with this.

We compared the Glock 17 to a Sig P226. Both are fine guns, but next time I'd like to try out some American weapons.

I have a bit of work to do to convince the wife of the value of ownership.

Shoot a 1911, still one of the best american guns ever, such a smooth shooting weapon.
 
Got these two interesting pistols for Christmas.

The top one is a Norinco NP29. It is a single stack 1911 style 9mm. Best thing? $380! You US guys are really missing out on the Chi-com stuff.

The bottom is a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow in 9mm. What a fantastic pistol. It is the pistol of choice for action shooting sports up here in Canuckistan, and I can see why. It is also full steel, so it is nice and heavy with very controllable recoil for follow-up shots.

I know the CZ are not that big in the US, but you would do yourself a great service to pick up one of these finely tuned pistols. Even the base CZ75s are amazing pistols.

The CZ series of pistols are highly sought after as collectors items in the US. Especially the first series of CZ-75's.

We're not missing out on Norinco stuff. Norinco broke the law when they tried to illegally import 2000 fully automatic weapons (Type-56's) into the US. They directly supplied many of Oakland gangs, and even offered items such as explosives, light and heavy machineguns, anti-aircraft missiles, RPG-7's and mortars.

Also Norinco sold ballistic missle technology to Iran.

You can still get Norinco Saiga type shotguns and ammunition in the US though.
