As an American, I'd say maybe it's because there's a sense of doom and gloom over the country right now, what with the economy in the tank and so much uncertainty on the horizon. The zombie genre sort of speaks to that fascination with bleak outcomes, I think. Look to the Occupy Wall Street movement and you see many people are just waiting for the country to fall apart at the seams.

From watching it, it looked exactly like the Uncharted engine, warts and all. If it was pre-rendered, then they would at least have made it as good looking as the CGI image posted here.

But it's not really noteworthy, it's pre-rendered. I expect the game to look about as good as Uncharted is in real-time. I wouldn't be surprised if they released the game on PS3 and PS4 though, some sort of boosted version.

It is survival based unless the trailer is being misleading. The girl talks about how they just try to survive day by day and you see her digging for a few bullets. This doesn't come off as being some zombie gauntlet game.

In a world where 95% of games have pop-in on every 20 in-game meters, this is a technological achievement. Hats off to Naughty Dog.

What if it's about two characters working together in a semi-open environment?

Then would I still think it was not innovative enough? Probably. It'll depend on how much interaction with that environment there is. After all 3 UC games, which I really like, but which don't use things like inventories or character progression, I don't currently associate ND with deep gameplay or creating a sense of genuine exploration. I know they are capable of those things, of course, having made the Jak series.
