please dont be co op, please dont be co op, please dont be co op.

If RE5 told us anything its that any sence of fear and atmosphere and story goes away in a survival horror game when your talking to your pal on a head set.
So I hope this game isnt a responce to people asking for campaign co op in uncharted.

I would hope ether you play as the girl or its some kind of HL2 Ep1 / ICO thing where you have a AI partner you get attached to over the game

Also curios how it plays. If its 3rd person will it just be Uncharted with (more) zombies? What will they change to make it stand out?

Also I want to here more info on the new 2 team Naughty Dog.... I hope this doesnt mean they will be in the Insomniac cycle of releasing average games every year that people slowly stop caring about.

Also somewhere on the internet some Jak and Daxter fans are PISSED.

With Naughty Dog's ability to tell a story and make the player have an emotional connection with the characters, I think this game will be the game that the original Dead Island trailer wanted to be. Basically, I trust Naughty Dog more than other developer in the world to be able to nail "The Road" in video game form.

That was one of my first thoughts too. Really excited for the story in this game.

I know it is wayyyyy too fucking early to be talking about this, but I wonder if they want to make this into a trilogy or is it just going to be a 1 shot deal.

I hope to god if they do platforming they completely rework what's become stale in the Uncharted games.

The action-platforming in Uncharted is without equal... but there regular "break in the action" platforming is ZZZzzzzzzZZZzZZzzzzzzzzzz.

Seriously.

If these people climb in the game I hope it's a completely new animation system, and that there's some actual risk involved. Otherwise I'd rather not see it at all.

They should keep the climbing limited.

Pulling yourself up a ledge? fine

leaping from narrow handhold to narrow handhold over an infinity feet chasm before taking a giant leap? not fine.

Funny thought. Girl survives first game. Grows up / toughens up for a few years. By the second game does the rebooted Tomb Raider thing better than the actual rebooted Tomb Raider.

Then Naughty Dog will have two AAA franchises that are Tomb Raider but better than Tomb Raider.

Yeah. If they did do climbing... I'd like to see something we haven't seen before. Something interesting. Maybe slower-paced and stamina based with great animation (though I realize this isn't everyone's bag) but something new.

And I don't mind a death defying leap if they don't happen so much you lose all the tension. But I agree 100% with what you're saying. I'd rather not see it than see too much of it.

I think we need to understand the enemies first. What makes them tick and what are their easiest weaknesses ?

Then we can use guns, force, or wit, or animal help, or technologies based on the situation.

I don't think they need Nate's amazing platforming skills here.

They are rendered on a PC, not on PS3. Games are made on PCs, not on consoles:p The engine/editor is running on PCs, and they rendered the cinematics on PCs.
Actually, they render Uncharted cinematics on PS3. They've said so, and showed where/how they render them. It's very clear they render them under the very same engine as the game is using anyway. There are scenes in the game, either gameplay or realtime cutscenes, that look completely indistinguishable compared to regular cutscenes.

Yeah really impressive for a PS3 game
That picture of a girl is the best realtime character render I've seen in any game on anything.

this might be naughty gods first M rated game

I'm Legend with a touch of Walking dead. Nice! By the way I hope that girl was Ellen Paige but it was already announce that its not her.

Uncharted is nothing like Tomb Raider at all. That game's focus was more about puzzles and platforming. Hell, all of their shooting elements had auto-lock.

Uncharted/Gears is a more apt comparison. One is heavier than the other though.

That picture of a girl is the best realtime character face I've seen in any game on anything. I guess the closest thing I can think of would be BF3 characters (which still look more artificial and animate badly in comparison) or UC3 characters, which are much more stylized.

I have reasonably high expectations for the next tomb raider, but this made me chuckle.

With how Naughty Dog works... that entire trailer is the opening of the game and that entire sequence of Joel and Ellie running down the hall will lead right into the player controlling them with no cut and your only mission is make a beeline straight for the vehicles.

Damn... I'm already familiar with the names of Joel and Ellie. Naughty Dog... how do you do it!? That trailer conveyed more emotion and character development that like 90% of games out there right now...

As for the zombie thing.... are the enemies in Rage, for example, considered zombies? Because to me it looks clear both those, and these creatures here, are mutants.

I think it's probably not focused on combat. It could be focused on trapping zombies in the environment, using the environment against them, working together to defeat them...I mean it's obviously not going to be like Resident Evil with the stupid downward stabbing knife.

This would be incredibly hard to do for the duration of the game (well, to make it good and remain interesting, which ND only knows how to do), so Im not sure if it would be the main focus. Nonetheless, Im excited to see what ND comes up with.

I think it is important to mention that Sony and Naughty Dog never specifically stated that there were "horror" elements in the press release. They only mention "survival" and "action."

I think there will be a "horror" element, but it will stem from the survival element. I expect a lot of running, hiding and constantly moving from place to place while being chased to be a common element of the game. Not so much direct "horror" that is sell-able as opposed to indirect horror built through extreme tension and suspense. Personally, I want that more than the direct "use loud noises and jump out scares" type of horror.

I sense that the survival and action elements will be using the devices you have to the best of your ability. Remember, "action" doesn't necessarily mean shooting guns and blowing stuff up. A lot of running, jumping, evading and external stuff like seeing other people get attacked or a mass of mutant infected things clamoring around a chain link fence looking to get at a family or something could all be considered "action." I think we'll see a lot of extremely emotional set pieces. I don't know, like a daughter trying to wake up her dead father, only to have a bunch of those things slowly walk up and pull her away from her father, hearing nothing but the screams and mass of others joining in... I don't know, a bunch of shocking, emotionally tough scenes to really drive home the survival portion of the game.

There will most certainly be guns, knives and fighting, but something tells me that it won't be a huge, main part of the game. Maybe because the creatures you are fighting will have strength in numbers and you won't have the equipment to fight all of them off, you'll have to choose when you want to use what you have at the potential of having nothing in the future.

With Naughty Dog's ability to tell a story and make the player have an emotional connection with the characters, I think this game will be the game that the original Dead Island trailer wanted to be. Well said. I wouldnt mind a few scares throughout, though.

Uncharted 2 director? Even better. Uncharted 2 is the best game out of the three by a good fucking long country mile.

*sigh*

Watching the trailer again it really does seem like there are going to be some survival elements in there, like I am Legend. Whats surprising to me is that I cant think of a game that runs with the idea of I am Legend (unless I'm forgetting something...?), but it seems like an obvious thing to do.

I'd like to see what the gameplay is like but I definitely like the 'I am Legend' inspiration behind it.

Any real ideas on what type of game it could be? Open world? Would it be like those Disaster games from Japan coupled with Uncharted style action and platforms?

Would it be like a third-person Stalker or Metro? Resident Evil coupled with Uncharted?

I'm expecting the game to incorporate platforming sequences but I doubt the action is going to be like a cover-shooter and more akin to Resident Evil without the tank-like control scheme.

I was just making a joke. True or not, you've heard all the people who make the "Dude Raider" comparison.

Looks interesting. Looking forward to seeing more of it. I like post apocalyptic worlds that aren't all brown and blown to shit.

It's why I am so excited for this game. Naughty Dog are the masters of character interaction. Even if it was just a 'zombie game', that fact alone would make this game stand out.

I cannot wait to hear/see more about this game. I hope they have a press event asap.

This news makes me wonder... How big is Naughty Dog Studio now? they had 2 projects being developed back2back... WOW.

All Hail Naughty Gods ...

Looks AMAZING, and I don't even have a ps3 anymore.

If this game does what every other zombie game fails to do, which is tell an amazing and deep story (unlike l4d, dr, and dead island), it will be the greatest zombie of all time.

As much as I love Naughty Dog and UC, I am going to be very dissapoint if TLOU is as linear and scripted as Uncharted.

And judging by how good the graphics are looking, this is likely to be the case :/
Really hoping ND proves me wrong.

I love the concept, really impressive. I wonder which one you play as. Personally I'd love it if it had a switching POV so you could play as both, but either way, looks cool.

The amount of generic they packed into the trailer really is quite impressive.

*yawn*

Your posts are always a delight.

Concept seems obvious. But the execution? There's no precedent... as far as how to deliver that kind of gameplay. No one has done it. They'd be on completely new ground and would have to leave behind some of the traditional design to do it.

They can definitely be quite ambitious with this project, I wonder how long they've been working on this game.

So for the ones that are watching the walking dead/are caught up

remember how they were talking about bringing a baby into "this kind of world"?

thats pretty much Ellie.

It is Sony... unfortunately we probably won't hear anything about this game until E3 where it gets the top bill and an on-stage demo.

I'd rather have more Nathan Drake, Naughty Dog. :/

At the very least, patch in shirt-less Drake for Uncharted 3 then.

But I'll take an HD city->Apocalypse game if done right. Biohazard 5 left a hole in my heart that hasn't been filled.

That was quite a bit of blood from the dead guy om the bed at the beginning of the trailer. Im hoping for an M-rated ND game.

Every game in the world is scripted. And there is nothing wrong with linear.

All Hail Naughty Gods ...

They peaked at 85 when developing Uncharted 2. I'm not sure what U3's team size was, but it was probably similar to U2's. So they have to well over 100 people working there now.

The hell is wrong with you people, did you guys watch a different trailer than me?

The trailer opens up with some guy killing a non-zombie human being and a 14-15 year old being completely ok with it and pleased to find about 3 bullets....

What the fuck is generic about having a zombie apocalypse where other humans are just as bad and probably worse than the zombie's (mutant human whatever) themselves?

And for the record: L4D is good and all, I own both of them on Steam, but the experience is wholly disjointed, shallow, and driven by nothing. The sense of "survival" is pretty much gone when you're mowing down hundreds of zombies after every turn... After I beat all the maps, I never touched it again, it just isn't a good game with any last appeal. (In before people beat me over the head with the "yabutit'svalve" hammer)

I wonder if Keighley actually saw some gameplay footage of the game...? He thought it was absolutely mind-blowing and made a big deal of partnering with Sony to announce it. Might explain why he was so damn excited about it.

I hope. I want to see gameplay of this right fucking now.

Man seeing this and the Epic game.. Fuck zombies. Shits really getting old. So over used.

Every time someone complains about zombies, another zombie game is made. Hehehe. Can't win.

I think a mod should take down the mention of the Uncharted 2 director from the topic title. Most have no idea what the guy's job was. A Game Director at Naughty Dog helps plan the game to fit around the story and writing: design/management. Bruce did a great job making Among Thieves work, but the creative credits go to Hennig: writing, story, pacing, scenes etc.

What's there to sigh about? I find this director having more bang for his buck (Amy not included) given the game he directed in the series. This makes me all the more happy with who's behind the leading roles for this game. Uncharted 2 is my favourite and I find Uncharted 3 poor, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune raw but solid. Uncharted 2 was just perfect IMO.
