The Last of Us (Naughty Dog): Hold One Second

Yeah, it's really funny.
Game is awesome. Some prefer U2, ok, but "disappointment"? -> lulz

People have it all wrong -- Uncharted 3 is actually good, Uncharted 2 was the giant disappointment.

But that seems to be beside the point, unless people are expecting this to match Uncharted 2 just because of the team/director... and even then, doesn't seem like a good way to judge a game when all we really have known is a two and a half minute trailer.

I Am Legend

Considering I can't watch the trailer cause gametrailers has some sort of internet streaming disease, based solely on that GIF in the OP, I'll say you nailed it. :lol
It the overgrown city parts remind me of Enslaved :)shudder:) for some reason. :(

So any Aliens-licensed or unlicensed game is really a zombie game? Even Metroid?

I don't think so. The aliens don't just get thrown at you dozens at a time with very little threat. And they actually think for themselves going through pipes and all that, right? I don't know much about aliens tbh. It's why Dead Space does something different with their take on it.

Again, I'm making assumptions based on very little, but I'm just getting ready to be disappointed.

I look forward to being proven wrong.

It will be amazing if this was really Uncharted 4, placed 20 years after U3. An old Nathan Drake with her daughter, after Elena death, trying to survive in a planet where someone finally took out El Dorado.

But is a hidden sequel and there are only hints about their past life, until the credits roll over and it shows the real name of the game: Uncharted 4, the last of us.

not gonna lie; that made me smile a little.

and now I feel sad.

Some people act as if UC 3 is piece of shit that deserves to be burned.

post patch; my GOTY

Hopefully this game plays completely different to Uncharted. So, take away jumping or tone down platforming elements, add a health bar, and include inventory management?

Uncharted 3 is so ahead of everything else its ridiculous. Sure, there are some AI issues, and the melee isnt the best, but the amount of effort that went into that game is insane. Its just not supposed to be a game developed in 2 years. The ship level is one of the best levels Ive ever played, period. Some may prefer Uncharted 2 (I think U3 is better), but the trashing its been getting is laughable. Only on GAF. I dont even want to get started on the linear complaints.

There is absolutely no reason to think that this new game will be "Uncharted with zombies"

The aliens in Dead Space were totally space zombies...

Don't feed the trolls ;)

Back on topic:
Ellie was happy after she found some ammo.
So it looks like a real "survival" horror game ;P

I am glad Naughty Dog is making a new game / series for the PS3, but I am not that hyped yet as not much was shown in the trailer. E3 will be when I get hyped for this game. ;)

For you? Maybe! Overall? Not really!

The aiming was borked, cheats were missing, motion blur was missing, cutscene viewer was missing, the pacing was uneven, they somehow made the game even more linear, they made Chloe suck, they didn't give her or the new sidekick much screentime, they horribly underutilized the villain, there was no "final boss fight" really, and the script wasn't as witty as before (in my opinion).

If Uncharted 2 director is different from Uncharted 3 director (I have no idea) then I have more confidence in this game. But then again, hopefully the teams split because they truly just had a lot of growth, rather than being forced to split to work on multiple games.

Yeah, discussion of this on all our favorite podcasts is going to be so much fun

edit: stop with the uncharted stuff

I thought uc2 and 3 had the same director, but I guess I'm mistaken I don't really follow their staff I guess either way uc2 was a lot better than 3 to me so this is great news.

People who disagree with you are now trolls? Dude, get the fuck over yourself.

I'm gotta follow this mod's advice and just quit the Uncharted talk. Its pretty clear you're gonna be irrational towards any discussion about it anyway. Jesus Christ.

That was a pretty cool trailer, but holy christ the last shred of Geoff's credibility is down the drain in my eyes. Yeah, I sure can't fucking believe Naughty Dog showed off an in-engine cutscene that looks pretty great. That is definitely a PS3 exclusive I cannot BELIEVE.

Post-apocalyptic metropolitan city? Check.
Zombies/Mutants/Whatever? Check.
Father-daughter (or at least, father figure) dynamic? Check.

Now, not that these are bad tropes - If I trust anyone to work well with established stereotypes, it's ND - but they are certainly not mind-blowing. The graphics look excellent for a real-time scene, but they're not "unbelievable", especially considering the fact it's a scripted scene and not gameplay. I look forward to seeing more of this game but what an awful, awful VGAs that was.

Quite liked the trailer and potential direction this could take in, minus the annoying girl. Exploration and Salvaging is always a strong potential plus. Now what I find funny is that this seems more in line with the new direction of Tomb Raider too. One tries to get out of the other shadow, only to find itself competing with it again. Heh.

Removed my thoughts on Uncharted, thread moving too fast to catch mod addition.

I wonder mechanically what its going to be like. I played a bit of disaster report and wasn't the biggest fan. That said; it did look like shit on the wii.

I like the apocalypto conceit the movie has going for it. I kind of always have. What I know is that their storytelling and acting will be the best for the genre when it hits.

Which kind of bums me out, because I find ammo starved gameplay concepts often bore me. I like shooting things.
;( Too bad! I like it. Reminds me of RE1/SH1, etc. :) (Good ol' days)

I must say that I'm a bit sad that we ain't going to hear much more about the game for a while.

Considering the fact the game was successfully kept secret and ND were bursting at the seams to talk, it seems to me it would be counter-productive to go quiet now :(

Not having enough ammo in a shooter is incredibly rare in gaming (I'm having trouble thinking of even one example) if the game doesn't give you other ways to handle confrontations.

This is how you do it: you either don't have many confrontations (very unlikely), or you make it a stealth game (less and less popular these days), or you make Mirror's Edge (and don't sell any copies of your game). Or you make it melee (Condemed, Dead Island... which doesn't seem to fit the dev or the premise).

I'm really curious to see how traditionally designed this game will be, or if ND really have any new ideas...

It seems like for the past few VGA's, Naughty Dog seem to always have the highlight of the show. I think UC2, UC3, and now this were always the best part even though they were just trailers. Though good trailers of course.

I'm not usually into these types of games, but that looked great. Looks like I Am Legend, which should be awesome to play through. I have the utmost faith in ND that they're going to make something special here.

I'm cool with it as long as there are decent, really viable alternatives. And Im not talking about stupidly waving a knife in one spot in the air hoping a zombie doesnt hit me before I hit him (RE). I want some decent, interesting melee, as well as being able to take advantage of the environment in interesting ways.

I like ammo starved and I like deemphasis of combat so I hope it's going that way, sick of pure shooters unless they have a really good gimmick to it

They weren't just fodder. There were many different types and all had different ways of attacking you. I'm also not saying LoU won't.

I'm just saying that any zombie game that says it's a zombie game at the outset has a lot to prove to get me interested. Given how much I've loved the Uncharted series, I wasn't expecting ND of all devs to just make a zombie game, but that trailer says zombies to me. And I say no thank you (for now) back to it.

I think it's probably not focused on combat. It could be focused on trapping zombies in the environment, using the environment against them, working together to defeat them...I mean it's obviously not going to be like Resident Evil with the stupid downward stabbing knife.

Some of you are missing the point of the girl. Listen to the trailer, it's clear that she was born after the pandemic spread or was too young to remember. She's never SEEN the world as it was; that city jungle is all she's ever known. Pair that with the older guy--a father figure, but almost certainly not her real father--who lived in the world before and is living through the hell it is now and you have fodder for some great story telling.

Then it would be unlike any other game on the market... does ND have it in them to create their own type of gameplay?

I was excited at first when I thought the game was about Drake and his daughter. ( I hope I'm not the only one who thought that after the Naught Dog logo)

Now with the press release details even more so.

I thought it looked great.

Obviously from a teaser made entirely from cinematics we have no idea what the game is going to play like, but ND are as reliable a team as you'll find in the entire industry.

Glad I was right to post about the rumours of a second ND project in the old VGA thread, although I'm surprised that there is no word yet about SSM's direct involvement which would've made my prediction absolutely spot on.

I still think that old post linking the cameraman working on virtual cinematography and quizzing Roger Deakins about his work on "No Country For Old Men" (an obvious link with Cormac McCarthy's fiction, specifically The Road) seems a bit too coincidental to be disregarded entirely.
