NHL December |OT| The Team You Cheer For is Not Good Compared To Our Team

Crazy turn around for him from last year, but he is damn old, I would have bet everything I own against the Panthers leading the SE division in the start of December.

I've only seen that one Panther game vs the Leafs, anyone who've seen more of them want to comment on what's going on? Steroids in their Gaterade?! They don't even have Vokoun!

It’s unclear if one specific hit caused the symptoms to resurface, though Crosby pointed to a first-period collision with Boston’s David Krejci as significant.

Krejci was digging for the puck in front of the Pittsburgh bench when Crosby closed in. The Boston forward spun just before Crosby arrived, with Krejci’s left elbow appearing to knock Crosby off-balance as play continued.

Crosby didn’t miss a shift, playing more than 21 minutes as the Penguins fell to the defending Stanley Cup champions.

“I know I got hit in the head there,” Crosby said.

.

Sid needs to take the season off :'(

Sorry kassatsu, but he's a cornerstone marquee franchise player. He doesn't get the time to recover and takes another big hit or more medium quality hits and he could be done for.

Comically bad. Like I said, worst team in the NHL.
Yzerman was at NJ / Habs games, and Habs scouts are at the NJ / Tampa game, I'm sure Gomez could help you guys turn your season around, we'll even through in a poutine and few bottles of maple syrup for you guys.

I really hope Staal is ready for tomorrow. I'm actually comfortable with Vitale in a 2C slot but who the hell is going to center the bottom two lines? Kennedy and Dupuis? They already sent Williams back down after the Islanders game, it's clear management wasn't happy with how he performed. We've proven we can score without Crosby but Staal's skill at shutting other team's top guys down can't be replaced and with him, Crosby and Park out and Letestu traded, our offensive is going to get stretched really thin.

Don't worry Manics. Sid seems to be in good spirits:

No one seems to have any idea what Yzerman is going to do, if he's going to do anything at all. But something absolutely has to change. This team has terrible chemistry.

The Canes are worse. The only difference is that the Lightning had higher expectations. But the Lightning are having a season similar to the Canes did after going to the ECF. I think assuming Roloson would be the answer at his age was a big mistake from Stevie.

Of course JR made nothing but mistakes in Carolina this offseason. Ridding himself of Kabs was step 1 in trying to right the ship, but this team needs a Panther-like makeover.

But what do you do with the Canes? Get line-mates for Staal that aren't shitheels like Tlusty? Rebuild around Skinner? Ward still seems to be doing fine at least.

Man, this shit with Crosby is seriously depressing. In the back of my mind I just keep thinking that he will never return to 100% without any issues or complications.

Luongo for Lecavalier. Or Schneider for someone else.

Hopefully Canada wins gold at the World Juniors instead of collapsing spectacularly like last year.

Even though I wished this would happen to Crosby, I know how you feel.

Not cool man.

Sid talks:

“I don’t know,” Crosby said, when asked by reporters which hit caused the problem. “I mean, I know I got hit in the head [by Krejci], but it was pretty — I felt like I was pretty good after that, didn’t feel like it was anything too major. But if I had to look at one hit … if anything, it was probably that one.”

If Lecavalier has no value, neither does Luongo.

  • Cap hit is lower.
  • Finalist for major award at his position last season.
  • Took his team to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last season.
  • Posted two 1-0 shutouts in the finals.

I'm not trying to say Luongo's value is sky high or that he's without flaws, but there would be suitors, for sure.

Here...

A sample of 10 top goalies with decent playoff experience and the percentage of their playoff games post lockout that have been produced various sv%:

.920+:

1) Thomas (61.9%)
2) Kiprusoff (61.9%)
3) Luongo (59.6%)
4) Miller (53.2%)
5) Ward (48.7%)
6) Lundqvist (45.7%)
7) Rinne (44.4%)
8) Fleury (44.3%)
9) Price (43.5%)
10) Brodeur (40.5%)

Now the percent of games where they had a sv% of less than .880:

1) Thomas (14.3%)
2) Ward (20.5%)
3) Miller (27.7%)
4) Rinne (27.8%)
5) Luongo (28.1%)
6) Fleury (28.6%)
7) Brodeur (29.7%)
8) Kiprusoff (33.3%)
9) Lundqvist (34.3%)
10) Price (43.5%)

With the exception of Thomas, Luongo's numbers are right in line with every other goalie.

If Lecavalier has no value, neither does Luongo.
lol, Luongo's numbers with the Canucks:

GP: W-L-OT / GAA / PCT

349: 204-107-34 / 2.40 / 9.17

At a $5.3 million cap hit for the goalie who just led his team to the SCF.

Some teams may have issue with taking on a goalie (or any player) with a contract that long, but you're joking if you think Luongo's value is equal to Lecavalier's.

Well, Lecavalier played a big part in Tampa's Stanley Cup run and his contract length is a few years shorter. He's ranked 24th in points per game since the lockout of all players who have played at least 82 games over that span, which puts him in elite company.

He's struggling this year, and he has a bad contract, but the same things can be said about Luongo. I can't see any team dealing for either player unless some sort of major salary relief is sent the other way to help deal with their monstrous contracts long-term.

Lecavalier's numbers are held back by the system we play, not to mention the lack of talent around him. He's not the same player and not worth his contract, but he was a PPG guy in last year's playoffs, so he's far from finished.

But he's untradeable and wouldn't want to leave Tampa anyway.

The major difference between the contracts is the cap hit. A $5.33 million cap hit is far, far, far easier to manage (even long term) than a $7.7 million cap hit.

Lecavalier has the 6th highest cap hit in the league, where Luongo isn't even 6th highest at his position.

.920+:

1) Tim Thomas (61.9%)
2) Not Tim Thomas (61.9%)
3) Not Tim Thomas (59.6%)
4) Not Tim Thomas (53.2%)

With the exception of Thomas, Not Tim Thomas' numbers are right in line with every other goalie who isn't Tim Thomas.

Feels good, man.

Cactus, you're mangling with the stats a bit to make them look more comparable than they actually are. You've gotta exclude the era when Lecavalier was actually considered "elite". Over the last four seasons, the duration under which he's been paid the $7.7m/yr, he plummets to 45th in points per game.

The two really shouldn't be equated. Luongo's contract is bad, but largely because of the length. Lecavalier's contract is both very long (albeit at this point 2 years shorter than Luongo's) and a ridiculous cap hit.

No Canucks fan would accept that trade (even though I'd love to have Lecavalier on this team).

Why would we want another centre? That makes 0 sense. He's not going to replace Henrik or Kesler. We need either a huge hard hitting defense man like Shea Weber or a winger like Zach Parise to play with the Sedins.

Both those would be dependent on trading away Luongo though (or a large salary cap rise with new CBA) and them taking a big discount, so unlikely.
