My Vita is in hand! Last day in Japan before going back to the US for two weeks, and what a busy one it was!

Spent seemingly all afternoon in Akihabara and Ueno (Tokyo) yesterday waiting on lines and picking up the Vitas I'd ordered (requests from back home, an eBayer, one for me) and tried not to think about the awesomeness sitting in my bag as I attended a Christmas party in the evening.

Turned in early and am now wide awake at 5 AM and will probably stay up until my flight this afternoon. I still haven't opened that box of gaming goodness.

If Wipeout 2048 had been released today, there's no way I would have been able to resist!

All that remains, is to ask whether the Vita will allow me to keep games content on the card when switching, even in their inaccessible state, or not. I just want to avoid having to connect to a PC/PS3 to transfer content every single time.

This is a very important question. Especially when it pertains to save data.

I'd be fairly confident in saying that, at least, if you use a different memory card for each account, it's card swap + that two-minute reset process.

Not as good as the situation a few days ago (swapping cards alone to switch), but better than the last word from Sony suggested (forced card formats or something).

Question for me now is how manageable it might be with one card, or if multiple cards is the way to go for this.

Yep. I don't think then that could be a problem. Most of the people that has several accounts will go for the extra cards, specially if you can find 4Gb cards for 20$. For me, the solution is not optimal, but is ok. I don't care at all if the trophies of my games go to one account or the other.

Here's a really good hardware size comparison pic via Andriasang

honestly looks bigger than I thought. I don't think it's a problem, but I thought ever so slightly larger than the PSP, when it looks closer to the original DS.

2 minutes to actually do it, but then how much data do you lose? Do you have to re-enter WPA keys? Are your keyboard hints reset? Web Bookmarks deleted, etc? This kind of system data is probably not stored on the memory card.

Take it with a grain of a salt, but a Japanese coder says he's managed to get a 'Hello World' running on PS Vita utilizing an exploit that was present in PSP firmware 6.31.

http://exophase.com/34625/rumor-psp-save-game-exploit-working-on-ps-vita/

From what I can gather, it runs under the PSP environment, which is emulated. It's likely entirely sandboxed, so wouldn't allow code running outside of it. Which basically makes this useless for running actual Vita homebrew, but still interesting...

So is there any chance we will get a US release of Monster Hunter Portable 3 PSP with the vita release? I know I would love to play it now that I could map the second analog stick, which was always my big problem with the portable versions.

Holy crap, if this is sandboxed homebrew, it would be better than OtherOS.

I still cannot believe how good that OLED screen looks in photos, I can't wait to see it in person.

I need more OLED impressions!

Yeah I'm excited about the OLED screen. Supposedly Samsung and LG are going to debut the first OLED televisions at CES (to go on sale in the summer before the Olympics).

Samsung produces the screens for the Vita.

Sony's sold OLED televisions for years, no?

Edit: They did. This was released commercially in 2007:

One thing that irks me a bit: Sony still hasn't implemented a screenshot function. :P

What are you talking about? Press PS button + Start, screenshot function is part of Vita's OS.

No chance in hell it will come in 2 months. Besides, isn't Capcom sending all their Q1-Q2 lineup to die in March? I'm not into MH, but I would buy it in a heartbeat for Vita graphics, and online multiplayer.

I want Type-0 Vita port more, though.

I'm sure it will be sorted out in the future. I just want a really good browser to get on GAF as the PSP browser couldn't even handle letting me log in.

You're right, but they weren't commercially viable, and this television from 2007 was 11".

OLED TV will really start hitting its stride in 2014-2015 once production costs come down. I believe the screen life has increased dramatically over the years as well as companies like Universal Display Corporation have found ways to stabilize the organic materials.

The TV's debuting at CES will be 55" I believe.

I know my answer will probably be a '?' since there has been only a Japan release, but is the system confirmed to be region free for retail games as well?

I don't care if I have to erase my card for online and shit, I don't need it, but I guess I will be wanting to buy games from other regions at some point.

I just heard the Vita's browser doesn't support flash (duh!) and HTML5, what the fuck?

So no Youtube or anything similar for now.
Flash, true, since Adobe ceased their mobile-flash development. Sony reported that it's still negotiating with them.

Absence of HTML5 is the real surprise, if true. What we know so far is that it scored low on an HTML5 test, and couldn't access youtube's mobile site. They really need to address the confusion. A "still work in progress" would suffice for the time being.

It likely just doesn't have the libraries to do it properly. The HW seems more than competent and I hope we at least get HTML5 at some point. Flash would be great too.

Sony should've just used the stock Android browser. Their own solution is always going to be behind the curve if PS3 is any indication.

Having anything Android running as a main isn't going to be a great idea given the ease of cracking that platform open.

Yoshida confirmed that retail games are region-free.

Man, I can't wait to see Tactics Ogre: LUCT in dat OLED screen. It must look great.

HTML5 has a lot of advanced but seldom used features. Some of these features are also relatively unsafe.

If they want HTML5 video support, it's a matter of changing the <object> tag to <video>, but I suspect in-game access is probably limited.

Don't know what to get, Katamari really doesn't look that exciting after having played it on PS2, PSP, and PS3.

So far the only sure bet is Gravity Daze. Hopefully a few more games will turn up for February launch.

I think the fact that formatting the memory card is optional when you do a factory reset might be a good sign that you don't have to delete content. It just might be inaccessible and probably will give some message about how you aren't the registered owner of the game or something.

But will this be commercially viable either? I hope so, but typically new display tech launches aren't. Generally you're looking at near or at 5 figure launches. Look back at the last display tech launch. Sony's first SXRD originally retailed at above $10,000. At least it could make an argument for why at the time - it actually provided the best IQ at its size.

Will these be able to make such a claim? I'd find it surprising if that's the case. Today there are tons of displays available in the 55" range utilizing several different display technologies. Will this actually offer competitive features and superior IQ to warrant a 'new tech' cost? We'll see, but I doubt it will in its first iteration.

What this display does offer over the Sony OLED from a few years back is an actual usable display for traditional duties. It's a large size, and one would assume ... doesn't need to turn its brightness down after a few minutes to prevent pixel suicide. Will that be enough to warrant a 'new tech' cost? I doubt it. Hopefully they can launch at a more competitive price then previous new display techs.

Lumines and Hot Shots Golf are sure buys for me.

it should be fine - i am going to repeat the process so my 16 gig is fine for US content today.

1) Factory restore JPN PSV with the 16 gig card in (US target card)
2) opt to DEACTIVATE account when asked
3) Input US account details
4) watch that F***ing intro movie AGAIN
5) Download content from PS3 to PSV
6) Factory restore US PSV with 32 gig card in
7) opt to deactivate US account
8) input JPN account details
9) Wave fist at the stupid intro movie AGAIn
10) Check i can still play content from mem card
11) victory
12) make months of posts moaning that the process wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't fot having to watch the stupid intro Movie

Yesterday went from awesome to disaster. It was pretty clear to those that bumped into me in the morning that i wasn't well - things got drastically worse throughout the day culminating in me passed out in bed at an early hour when we were supposed to be having a family "do" :/

My Vita blues have been lifted significantly by Mingol (which is as awesome as ever), Smash Court (60fps in game (cuts not so 60) and solid) , and Blazblue (okay - i'm not a massive blaz fan but god it looks brilliant on the screen)

Still a lot of games to get through - but Mingol is making me want to just play that.

I -may- however sell off Mingol and Ridge. Given how poor the general packaging is - i like the box, but no manuals or anything - then it was a mistake in cases where the games will be MP focused to go retail. Actually - anything that is a turd will get sold monday.

You don´t have to that every time you want to switch account, do you?
