PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

It simply says I can't download those games to my Vita, just like all the other content that's currently unsupported.

Weird... Well, Sony did say the emulator for PSP games would improve as time goes on, and that at the current pace they have the majority of the PSN titles.

PSP support is emulated. That's why not all games work at the moment.

I wouldn't preemptively buy any digital PSP games unless you know for certain it will work.
Like I said, my digital PSP copies of Dangan Ronpa and R-Type Tactics 2 are currently unsupported.

Dangan Ronpa probably will get support, though is R-Type Tactics 2 available to purchase on PSN anymore, or have Irem taken it down?

My quick Vita impressions:

Hardware:
Amazing. Feels more solid, yet somehow slimmer than PSP. Battery life has been great so far. And that screen!

OS:
I'm not a fan of the circles. They especially look rough on PSP games. Also why are Friends and Trophies lists separate apps instead of being built into the UI?

Ridge Racer:
Disappointing frame rate. They better patch that shit. Love the worldwide team battles, though, and having the game setup like this is actually making me improve on each track from the very start, rather than playing through 10 hrs of piss easy GPs before needing to improve my skills.

Minna no Golf 6:
This is gonna be my go-to game for a long time. Really quick play, and so much stuff to unlock. The graphics are stunning too. Not tried online yet, but I think the lobbies and Internet matches are like the old MinGol Online on PS2, so it should be fine.

Katamari Damashi no Vita:
This will come down to content more than anything, and I haven't got far enough to judge that, but already the music has been top notch. Love the additional controls to stretch the katamari in both directions. It makes it much easier to get into hard-to-reach places, like under tables when you're too big. Also the framerate is great.

Welcome Park:
The number tapping mini games aren't much to write home about, but there is a great sampling tool, where you can build up some multi-layered sounds really easily, and it's quite fun as a sound toy. You can also take pictures of stuff that looks like faces (two eyes & a mouth), and it will animate as it talks to you.

Near:
I don't quite get what this is for yet. I have received one present so far, which was a human challenge for Katamari, so it has some use in that respect, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with the rest of it.

PSP emulation:
This is really pretty awesome. Love the options for mapping the right analog stick, and the colour space used adds a lot of life to old games. The bilinear filtering looks great on both 3D and 2D games.

PC Engine archives:
These work pretty well. The great thing about Vita compared to PSP is its screen. No more ghosting in Gradius :D Pretty sure the archives stuff is just using PSP emulation, which already includes PC Engine/PSone emulation as a subset though. The only thing I'm not sure about is why PSone games are not available yet - maybe they're just trying to give the more expensive Vita/PSP games a chance to sell before they open the floodgates.

Thanks for the notes.

Gonna be a long wait for February.

I am importing a Vita. Question for any JP Vita owners with a US account on it. If I downloaded the Vita demos that are on the JP store on my PS3, Would I be able to switch over to my US account after they finish downloading and install them onto the Vita (which would have my US account on it)?

I hope they put out a list of supported PSP games for the launch in the rest of the world. That would be the main reason I would get a Vita, since only Persona 4 and Ruin really interest me.

Does the 3g version come with free access to docomo wifi hotspots? If not, any tips for free hotspots in japan, or ones that don't need ajapanese credit card

FUCK I am gonna succumb to the First Edition

I have that as my preorder right now, but these impressions are seriously dividing me. 3G seems to be the same as wifi, as in no other 'premium' features. Plus a larger memory card is sounding necessary. at the same time, a week early + japan demos may overtake common sense.

I'm thinking $250 vita + 16 gig card + Gravity Daze + Shinobido 2 + maybe Uncharted now.

How much is the extra week worth...that is the question.

I will go vita + card + gravity daze + wipeout + Uncharted

As far as I can tell, any games you see on the PSN when browsing via your Vita are 100% compatible. Haven't checked super thoroughly though.

I've grabbed Grand Knights History, Type 0 and Ys VI so far and they all work like a charm.

Where can I find a comparison of the two? GPS has no effect on Near or anything else?

I'm just going off what I've heard on podcasts. No clue about the near stuff.

I was expecting something more since the 360 and PS3 both had differences between the cheaper and expensive models. Like the 60 gig PS3 has 4 usb (vs 2) and wi-fi in addition to the 40 extra gigs. The 360 had, um, a silver tray instead of a matte white one.

Hmm. I may be going to Hong Kong next week. Wondering whether I should wait for the official launch, or nab myself a HK system, which looks a tad expensive. Then again, I have no idea what the price will be when it officially launches in Singapore (where I live). Decisions decisions....

For me it's Vita wi-fi + 8 GB card + Uncharted + Hot Shots Golf + Lumines

Screw that 1 week early Vita version.

Also this is assuming 8 GB will still be $40 as mentioned on IGN

I'm really tempted by GKH and Ys VI, but still haven't got that far with Type 0. So many fine PSP games out there, but I guess the beauty is I don't need to rush to buy them, since I can just download at any time.

There are actually some pretty great sales going on right now. Hell, Peace Walker is like 900 yen.

GKH looks great on the Vita. Really beautiful colors.

Edit: Crisis Core isn't on the PSN so as of right now it's not playable on the Vita.

From what I've read online, this seems like one of the best first editions of any consoles ever. Good games, an awesome OS....

Well, let's just hope no Vita bursts into flames in the next few weeks.

Ys VI? The botched Konami port? Still, the Ys games were definitely some of the PSP games I was hoping would be BC.

It runs much better digitally. Still not graphically great, but it works just fine. I just wanna have all the PSP Ys games on me at all times. Haha.

The other titles are all compatible too.

That's excellent news. It removes the dithering right? I would love to play Ys Seven without the heavy dithering.
