Did you not notice that there was a gigantic Habs logo drawn like centre ice in the middle of the ground floor, or the old sections of red seats lying around? lolz

We have a mall outside of the Hub that has the original Garden scoreboard. That was the first time I've ever been to the city, didn't see a sign or anything. I just assumed the Habs owners had something to do with the construction of the building. I wasn't in there very long. I was trying checking it out but we were in a hurry to catch a film. Didn't help that they weren't sports fans. I just put it in the back of my mind ever since.

Lucic suspended for the Habs-Bruins game. Hmmmmm.

Habs fans, was there any controversy over Saku Koivu being the captain?
There was, but only because Koivu was there for years and years and never bothered to learn any french word. To be honest with you, though, I never really knew why he was the captain. Didn't strike me as the leader type. He's a strong guy, nice set of skills, and he's a hard worker, but I'd like a captain to be vocal AND a good worker.

Gionta ain't cutting it either. I think Muller was probably the last good captain we've had.

I personally don't mind it if the captain doesn't speak French, but if he's the captain for, like, 11 years, I think it's a little weird. Living in a city where 50% of the people speak another language and you don't bother to learn any of it, and playing in a province where there's more than 75% of the people speaking a language you don't understand, well... I wouldn't do that, myself, and I'm just a normal guy nobody cares about.

Don't you dare stop with the clapping bear. I personally love it, even when I see it on the page 80 times when the Leafs take on the Bruins.

To me it's part of our little community here, right there with Sef's Detroit blowout image, Marvie and his arsenal of gifs, the San Jose fan, KESSELLLLchampagne.gif, and of course the Luongo shutout penis.

Well said man.

Burke's not going to fire anyone this close to the holidays... Wilson's safe for at least two more weeks.
Ugh, two more weeks of losing :(

Molson just issued a statement saying that the french language is still a very important asset for a permanent coaching job in Montreal.

Sucks for Cunneyworth.

Oh well. I'll wait for Patrick Roy to bring the team up for a season and then quit after getting scored 10-0 while he gets frustrated because Gomez is not getting traded and all the goals were giveaways by him.

FJ, a buddy of mine brought back some beers from a microbrewery in Quebec, I fucking loved them. Do you know anything about this company / beers?

I'm hearing more and more about them lately, but I haven't tried them yet. A friend of mine who owns a restaurant is starting to serve them, actually. They're supposed to be pretty good. We have a lot of decent microbreweries in Quebec, most of them located in the "regions".

Mario Beaulieu, head of Mouvement Québec Français, called Cunneyworth's appointment "unacceptable," and said it shows that the team's management is "indifferent" to fans' wishes.

Along with calling for a Molson products ban, Beaulieu hopes fans will avoid buying Canadiens-related products for Christmas.

Impératif Français, a nationalist group based in Gatineau, has called for a boycott of Molson products to protest the hiring, with another group, Mouvement Québec Français, adding its name to the call.

So I have to pour this perfectly good Molson Canadian down the drain?

Do you guys really believe that because these guys (Muller, Roy) were legends on the ice, that would mean they'll be legends as coaches?

Larry Bird did it! I mean who knows, experience and a great understanding of the game is pretty much the main prerequisites of any head coaching/manger gigs. Doesn't mean they all will be successful.

Wish I could buy them here. At least I can get the Unibroue stuff here, although I know they got bought out by a larger company. The beers are still great though.

Unibroue's Fin du Monde is the only decent Canadian beer that seems to get exported to NC; Canadian/Blue and Moosehead are all I've found in the specialty shops. Flying back home tomorrow and first thing I'm doing is hitting the Beer Store. Hope Duggans is still around, they had to close their brew pub on Vic just before I left. =(

Jackass, would you be happy with Ron Wilson as your coach? We're willing to let him jump ship.

LCBO is carrying UNIBROUE 17 Grand Reserve as a special promotion right now, I'm gonna be getting me some of that.

Yup. If we make Gorges our next captain though, it will be the best selection since Captain Kirk.

No, I believe Muller will be a great coach not because he was a great hockey player (I bet most don't know he is 84th all-time in points in the NHL behind Rocket Richard at 83 and ahead of Larry Robinson at 85. 965 points in 978 games), but because he is already a great coach. When you watch 75-80 Habs games a season, where he was for the last 5 years, you notice things. Like, you notice that your PP is near tops in the league when Muller coached it. You notice your PK is near tops in the league when Muller coached it. You notice that during timeouts it was always Muller rallying the troops while Martin doodled in his notebook.

Ill give you Roy as being an unknown quantity as a coach, but Muller's praise is based on experience.

Oh shiiiit. Gonna buy two: One for Xmas eve, one for World Jrs on Boxing Day.

Moosehead is my favorite Canadian beer. It's not everywhere, but when found it's cheap, tasty, and usually comes with some sort of trucker cap or bottle opener.
Christ this is so true. I remember those commercials. :jnc

Maybe I'm not man enough yet but La Fin du Monde is one of the worst beers I have ever tasted in my life.

But then again I did say that about Guinness when I was younger but as I got older I acquired a taste for it.

Dieu du ciel is a really good microbrewery that was featured in LCBOs this fall. I dunno if there's still some available, but it's generally considered one of the best microbreweries in Quebec right now.

Wouldn't disagree that assistant coach skills are transferable, but being a successful head coach is obviously a different challenge.

I don't think FdM is an acquired taste, it's really easy drinking. I'm normally not big on the style, but my Czech blood loves the carbonation, and the blend of spices is just perfect imo. If you don't like it, I don't think you ever will. Not like that's a bad thing though: I personally hate the typical British stout with a passion. Not gonna say it's bad, just that I'll take a good Czech black lager over any other dark beer every single day of the week.

No question, but I'm just saying that he's not getting backing solely because he was a beloved player. He has shown a considerable penchant for coaching.

That's my Moosehead Discover card. I can use it to open beer bottles or potentially as a weapon. Never leave home without it.[/QUOTE]
I prefer my collar-stay bottle-opener. Bitches just stare in awe.

That's pretty damn slick. I always have a bottle opener on my keychain which I primarily use. I just have had the Moosehead one in my wallet forever. Don't think I ever used it, also says made in China on the back.

Agreed, shit beer to use for full cup flip cup. However it does get you fucked up.

BC has the best microbreweries in Canada. Victoria, I think, has the best: Philips and Vancouver Island Brewing Company.

I think Raffi overestimates the impact of Cherry on our nation's cherished youth. When I was a lad, I paid little attention to boring Ron and Don.

Ennis confirmed out for tomorrow game - probably for a week. Stuart (a call up) out for weeks. Vanek has an upper body injury, but hopefully should be able to suit up. This is all from one game. I think we have like 9 forwards hurt right now. My team is just falling apart. :(

Thought about heading to the game. Three years ago could get into the building, $10-30. Today, $150.

Bah.

Been looking at ticket prices all year, it's a farce.

Sometimes I wonder whether I'd want to live in a different sports market, or at least close to one to see cheaper games. Boston sports are fucking expensive
