It looks funny, and they are horrible to use, but damn are neti pots super effective. Those things are awesome for clearing your sinuses when you have horrible congestion. It is always fun using it when stopped up and then seeing the thick rope of snot hanging from your nostril as it is expunged from your head. Then you have that awesome lightheaded feeling by having your breathing system cleaned out.
Good to know this season. Will boil the water before hand.

Oh, it is horribly awkward and uncomfortable to use. But damn does the thing work wonders. The results justify how uncomfortable it is to use it. It is the only way I can avoid sinus infections whenever I get a bad cold.

Not to go off-topic here, but Arm & Hammer makes a product called "Simply Saline" that's effectively the same thing without the need to mix your own salt water, boil your water, clean your pot, etc. I suppose if you wanted warm water you'd be out of luck, but I had a cold with heavy congestion last month and this shit clearing me out was like a miracle.
Seriously, it sounds weird and uncomfortable, but a couple seconds of spraying this stuff up your nose when you can't breathe is amazing.

I usually just get scalding hot water, mix the salt in, then let it cool a bit. The warm water in the neti pot helps loosen things more than cold. And using room temperature or cold water with the pot actually hurts when you feel it going through your sinuses. Same if you put too much salt in the water.
To those that are going to use a neti pot for the first time, just remember to keep a roll of toilet paper or box of tissue nearby. You are going to be blowing your nose for a few minutes after to expel the rest of the water and snot out.
