WWE QUIETLY HAS TV TAPING IN FLORIDA: WHY AND WHO WAS INVOLVED
by Mike Johnson @ 8:44 AM on 12/21/2011

This flew under the radar, but on Wednesday 12/7 WWE held a TV Taping at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida utilizing mostly developmental talents. I was told that the company utilized the talent to film different pilot ideas that could be used for the WWE Network. One was a traditional one hour show about the developmental program (they filmed two episodes) and one was a shorter 30 minute show that would focus on one specific match or rivalry.

Triple H and John Laurinaitis were both in attendance at the taping, which was free to students of the University. They utilized the FCW ring and set, as well as a screen to play video packages. I was told that one reason the University was used was as a test for running additional tapings there to give a grander look to the FCW product on screen, but also as a test run for doing a more potentially "intimate" WWE show for the Network. The footage shot was for internal use and likely won't make the light of day, even if the series concepts are picked up for the network.

Results from the taping:

Hour One:

*Xavier Woods defeated Big E Langston.

*Richie Steamboat defeated Brad Maddox.

*Kaitlyn & Alica Fox defeated Aksana & Tamina.

*Antonio Cesaro defeated Seth Rollins.

Hour Two:

*Kenneth Cameron defeated Mike Dalton.

*Leakee defeated Ricardo Rodriguez.

*Briley Pierce defeated Derrick Bateman.

*Husky Harris defeated Damien Sandow.

*Leo Kruger defeated Dean Ambrose HHH came out at this point to speak to the crowd.

Half Hour:

*Sheamus & Daniel Bryan defeated Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre when Sheamus nailed McIntyre with the Brogue Kick.

The first hour featured FCW announer Byron Saxton and Chris Russo as announcers. Jim Ross worked the announcing duties with Russo for the remainder of the taping.

At one point, HHH, who was overseeing the taping, did come out to cut a promo for the crowd.

The show has been business as usual for the last 5 months, except for Daniel Bryan winning at TLC. Would you really kick youself for missing anything on Raw if you didn't watch the last 5 months? The last eventful thing with MITB and the few weeks of follow up afterwards. Before MITB there wasn't anything for the entire year before until the Nexus debuted. They've done away with the gritty, edgy, anything can happen approach on Raw. Just be happy both world champions are great in the ring and can put on amazing matches and the US champion is someone who, a year ago, was borderline fired and just waiting for that Friday voicemail informing him, before he decided to do something about it and get himself over. All I know is, for the first time since Money In The Bank, I am happy with what WWE delivered to me this week. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the ride until WWE decides to mess it up.
Huge respect for Bobo. He just destroyed N_W.

Did anyone post this weeks Observer Radio?

I've been meaning to say this for a while and this is the perfect opportunity: I recently got a subscription to WO and it's fucking awesome. I listen to the shows on my daily commute and they're all mad entertaining. Bryan Alvarez is amazing -- I love hearing that man rant. I'm soooo looking forward to his annual X-Mas show. He was maaaad hungover on today's Bryan and Vinny show (it only went 25 minutes), so I'm sure the X-Mas show is going to be amazing

Anyway, I recommend getting a subscription -- I'd rather give them money than the WWE.

/shameless plugging.

I just love it Alvarez gets angry because the tone of his voice begins to change at random moments when he's speaking. It amuses me. :lol

It's that good, huh? I...well. I might.

I think it's worth it. I used to mooch off of Dream's posts and download the free shows every week, but I'm totally happy spending $10 a month now. Of course, I have a hour commute every morning, so getting to listen to the shows every week is great for my particular situation. Still, I'd recommend it.

It's surprising to me that anyone would pay $10 a month for what's basically a weekly blog post + some podcasts. For $10 a month you'll be able to get the WWE Network with a billion times more content and much better quality of content obviously. Meltzer doesn't even have real inside info. He never breaks anything big. I've been reading his Observer reports for months now and keeping tabs and he doesn't know anything important, no real scoops.

Its very insulting.

No way it's because tearing Cena's shirt, especially that shirt is symbolic.

He's trying to tear apart the fundamentals that John Cena bases his life on, Cena says Rise Above Hate and Kane is hate incarnate. It's part of the ongoing gauntlet Cena runs before he is worthy to face the Rock. Wrestling legends were the first wave, making Cena acknowledge the audience reactions and so Cena had overcome that obstacle by stating how amazing the WWE universe is and how the crowd is the greatest reason to watch. Because of this strategy, Cena has brought all of the hate he's cast aside into life as Kane as his next physical challenge.

It's another layer to the brilliantly crafted story all leading to the Biggest Main Event at the Biggest Wrestlemania Ever.

It's my money and I'm glad to spend it. It's more surprising to me you're surprised that people spend money to be entertained. ;)

I appreciate your enthusiasm Heavy. I too was just as frustrated you as you. But I have come to accept that most of the posters in this thread will never be happy with WWE. Most of the time it seems that they argue just to argue. I pointed out that WWE has had worse years (2008) and of course many argued that it was not true.

Point being, just accept that most people won't agree with us. Don't bother starting arguments over it. If you do this, you will enjoy this thread a lot more.

I ordered Final Battle 2011 and I'm pretty excited. This is the first wrestling PPV I've bought since Wrestlemania 20. I just finished watching Richards/Edwards 1 and 2 and am excited to see the third. I'm new to ROH, just started watching them a few weeks into their new TV show and like I said before this reminds me of what wrestling was like when I was young. I'm probably not going to watch it live but they earned my money. It's cool anticipating a PPV where there's been really good build-up and you know the matches mean something.

Definitely. I mean, looking at the matches on the card you've got a main event rivalry between tag partners that has been brewing for well over a year, a tag team feud that's been building since February, the Steen/Corino thing which is in it's second year and the TV title feud that has been going for the past six months. It's refreshing to see a company take such a long term approach to booking, and the fact that everything in the company has been focused over the past 3 months towards this one PPV really helps sell it as an event, rather than just another show.

Who's trying to argue against that?

2011 has been one of the better years in recent history, I can't remember a year where so much of the talent had elevated.
- Miz moved from glorified jobber to the stars to being legit main event
- R Truth moved from joke character to main event
- Zack Ryder moved from "How does he still have a job" to being a main focus
- Ziggler is already the best Heel in the world and people will give him credit for it soon enough
- Sheamus is main event in waiting
- Barrett got over his freshman stumbles and if he doesn't suffer too badly from the Orton burial he should be tracking to be main event sometime of next year
- D Brine at least has a World Hvwt title to his name, though it kind of remains to be seen what that means
- Mark Henry has found a character after 15 years of having Worf syndrome
-CM Punk went from occasional main event villain of the month to the face of the company

There are still a lot of issues, the undercard is even sparser now than it was last year. Cena and the Rock still take up more screen time than they should. Orton is still boring and kills the heat of any feud with his superman shtick, though at least he let Henry get a couple of wins.
Del Rio is probably the big loser of the year, its kind of hard to point the exact moment he lost all of the momentum he started the year with, but I'd probably have to say Wrestlemania. After that his destiny speeches became kind of nonsensical and he looks like a cartoon minority villain and not a real threat anymore.

I think it's totally worth my money too, even just for the radio shows alone. Get at least one new show a day which is great for my train journey to work. Have you listened to any Bryan & Vinny shows that have his grandmother on yet?

that observer podcast would be nice for me as well, but i would really only listen to one show a week. Those guys should be on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Wrestling Observer Live is on every sunday for free and is on various stations throughout the US I think. Although Meltzer isn't on that show anymore because he is too busy I think.

Morrison is in a similar situation. After his stunt at the Rumble, he should have been pushed to the stars, or at least been given the kind of respectful nudging that Ryder is finally getting. Instead, sometime around Wrestlemania his push was fizzed out, then he got into continual hot water due to his girly situation despite putting in a ton of effort.

...oh, wow, just checked his wikipedia entry. I didn't even know he was dismissed! Yeah, Del Rio is not the biggest loser of the year, not now that Hennigan's book is closed.

(wait, is he no longer with the company? The link I saw online cites that he was let go because of his "win/loss" record, which is kind of an in-character thing)

Edit: My WWE watching experience for the last few months is pretty much the Z! True Long Island Story, so I don't exactly have the full picture here.

Man, I love the episodes with Granny. In particular, I love how she is so insistent on reading every contest response that comes to her. It's hilarious how upset she was that they had to delay the WWE 12 contest a week because Bryan forget to tell people where to send their responses. She's amazing.

BTW: Do you know her FB page? I want to follow it now! :D

Just a great post. Copy/pasting it into a notepad file to use in the future. Post of the month, seriously.

Another great post. I'll eventually come to this realization as well. I'm still a noob here, although clearly the rookie of the year.

I thought you would enjoy those episodes. This is her facebook they have mentioned it on shows in the past so it should be fine posting it here.
