PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

Is LoA English friendly? I'm guessing it has no chance of localization since ACoH has been announced for launch here but not LoA.

3G Vita uses GPS, cellular triangulation, and skyhook (Wi-Fi triangulation) in tandem.

The Wifi model uses skyhook only, and Near definitely works on it, so other apps and games that use location services should work.

Monster Radar box says it doesn't.
Maybe it needs more accurate data?

Argh, I have 4 kids - all will want to play this, so my best option is 5 mem cards (1 for each of us) but each time someone else wants to play I have to do a factory reset as well as have 5 flamin cards!?

oh dear sony

Or you can simply have a card, an account, and let them play the games without caring about accounts, only caring about not overwriting the save slots.

More or less like all people do in 3DS, in DS, in PSP, in GBA, etc...

That's what was written in a Q&A, I can't check that.

Not really a rumour - it's written in the Vita FAQ that they're looking into it, but it's locked to docomo at the moment.

ahh ok, wasn't sure where I read it at, so much vita info these days.
If US comes with an unlocked update later on, I will be super happy.

one question, are all the PSV games available as download, and if so, can you download them? Because I believe they will be much cheaper than importing retail, right? However, I am not sure if the store would accept US credit cards...

Yes, they're all available, but no, your U.S. credit card will not work. You can purchase Japanese PSN cards online but they will be marked-up in price.

Finally finished Uncharted and I thoroughly like it. Will play again in Hard, but I kind of need another game to satisfy my hunger. Have to go check what the stores offer tomorrow and wrap it up in a nice xmas package for my lonely xmas-eve. *insert foreveralone.tif*

How did you like the controls?

does it have unlockables like cheats/infiniteammo/filters/etc? or is it like uncharted 3?

How did you like the controls?

Wrote this kind of opinion in some other thread which I don't remember, but I'll rewrite again just for kicks.

Like some have said here, the stick have a lot of acceleration in Uncharted, so you have to be careful when aiming. Tiny adjustments are hard to do. I think you can see the difficulties of the new sticks in this Unit 13 video that was posted here on GAF. Clearly the guy in that video sometimes overshoots the movement, but it has autoaim for compensation I think.

But, but, but the most important thing is to use the Motion Aim in the game no matter how you might feel about it in the beginning. It almost completely negated any problems with shooting, as tilting the console makes aiming precise and fast. Takes a while to get used to, but when your brain learns it, you will do headshots in no time. On Normal difficulty I had 270 kills without dying, so that says something about the Motion Aim system, (or the enemy accuracy on normal). Tilting is good, but people on local trains must have thought I'm a looney as I tilted the console waaaay sideways sometimes. On public transports the Motion Aiming is a bit more difficult as you have to keep the console steady, but not definitely not impossible.
Turret controls felt a bit off in the game but nothing serious. Can't explain why exactly. Also the basic minigun makes an appearance and is a bit difficult to control compared to rest of the guns.
EDIT: Also might be that because the motion aiming is so good that I just decided to use sticks just for general direction and then use tilting to adjust the rest. Kind of makes you automatically aim in a really different way from a regular controller.

Moving and climbing are like the bigger Uncharted's so no real difference there. What makes it better on the handheld are the touch controls. Climbing is very easy when all you need to do is swipe around and Drake auto-climbs to your desired location. I relied on it most of the game. Climbing can be done on the stick, rubbing the back-screen up/down, or just swiping the rope. Using the back was kind of useless as swiping the screen was less of a hassle. Jumping you can do also with just clicking the rope/stone you want to jump, or tilt the console and then tap, but I used regular stick+button for those mostly. Game has added swipes as QTE's, so expect to see them once in a while. Nothing too fast so you pass them almost every time.

I might try to play the game again, but this time without motion controls for aiming to see how it compares. Actually, tomorrow might be a nice day to try as I have nothing planned. Will get back to you on that.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. At least after Normal difficulty. That is disappointing as I was hoping for mirrored world or something like that from U1 and U2.

I think we'll get the game later. They might not have started any translation and want to spread the releases out. I think releasing in Summer 2012 would be perfect.

[Uncharted impressions]

Truly you are a lord among men good sir. People like to crap on Uncharted's combat though I really adore it and I'm glad to hear the motion aim works well. I really like it in some 3DS games but hate that it messes up the 3D screen. No problem with this in Vita so bring it on!

How long did the game take you? Did it have good variety and setpieces?

Thanks.

The game is looong. Way longer than I expected, so the advertised 10+ hours is pretty accurate, but the downside is that the locales don't change that much. Could have needed a couple more. Kind of don't want to spoil anything like the amount of chapters, so I leave it at that.
Some very nice setpieces here and there and constantly I would just stop and look at the scenery. Sometimes the game slows the pace down and takes you through a setpiece via quieter boat ride. Things fall down and you run and escape in some. Basic Uncharted.

The clock is ticking at 5.23 in the morning so I'll get some sleep. Nice to have a holiday.

Questions Questions

1)-Is the D-pad really good (people saying it's Nomad/Gamegear/Saturn/SEGA's Good) is this true or just bullshit?

2)-PlayStation Suite app thingy still going or cancelled?

3)-What is the best use of the rear Touchpad so far? ( also is that the thing feel natural? )

4)-USB 1 or 2.0 or 3?

5)-Any other PS3/Vita combo pack like Ruin?

6)-Why the screens are heavily compressed? ( can this be fixed by a future FW update)

7)-Is the 4GB memory card enough for me if I don't download games? ( have only 30 GB bandwidth cap/limit so I don't buy downloadable games unless if they are super small in size)

8-)In a scale from 6 to 15 what the chances that we get a Folklore sequel by Toyama team or any SCEJ poor teams on The Vita?

1) Supposedly really good.

2) In development, recently studios have gotten their development kits.

3) Probably Little Deviants.

5) MotorStorm RC is a Buy Once, get it on PS3 and Vita release. It's being considered for things like MLB, but it hasn't been confirmed.

6) Because JPEG sucks.

7) Probably. Game saves, and minor installs will be needed.

8) Less than 6.

So, I haven't seen much mention of this yet, but how does the overall interface hold up if you start dumping content onto it?

Basically, I think I have like 25+ digital PSP games (before getting any through that program for UMD owners), and a bunch of PS1 and Minis titles. If I just put them all on there, is there any organization method, or is is just going to be a series of screens of icons like old-school iOS was?

Any Vita owners around who have copied over a large quantity of digital games?

EETimes has a good Vita teardown here:

Main board front:

CPU die shot:

Curious notes:

- Contrary to previous reports, Samsung isn't manufacturing the CPU - Sony's old friends at IBM and Toshiba are

- The 512MB of main memory is split across three modules - one 256MB mobile DDR2-S4 module, and two 128MB mobile DDR2 modules. Wonder why this setup? Is the latter cheaper - maybe the RAM the OS uses, while the 'S4' is for the game? Don't know anything about these memory types but seems curious.

edit - cleaner link here: http://www.ubmtechinsights.com/teardowns/sony-playstation-vita-teardown/ The text there seems to contradict the memory info above, but their slide doesn't...so a bit confusing.

-wooha..Good.
-ummm..it's more of proof of concept no? .I'd like to see if it add something to the -gameplay in normal games.
-Good ..going for Motorstorm too for sure..hope they bring more of these combo packs
-oh..well I hope they fix that
-Installs?why? oh well might go for 16GB then
-You can't go below 6.

What scale is that?

Hope

Every game you insert into your Vita does an "install" to card - assuming that this is all part of the patching enablement system, it's not a full install.

But hey - wouldn't it be great if you could down the line chose to upgrade your physical to install for a fee? :)

That is news to me, how much space does such an install take? Not every game require a memory card, how does it work on those?

Such a system would be nice indeed. It would probably have to work like the PSP program though, where you have to buy the PSN version at a discounted price.

no idea how much it takes - it may well be just to drop the bubble icon onto the card but i'd assume that it has to be the control point for the patching system - i assume that if you insert a game on a system without a memory card then it just removes the bubble after play.

I'd be happy with this - you create a "temp" download version with an expiration of a week or so. That way it negates the "install and sell on" fears, gives the user some level of flexibility and still provides sufficient work that may get people to pay to buy a full install version.

I'm still mulling over selling Hotshots and Tennis and get the install versions simply because i can see myself wanting to play these over and over for extended periods.

Anyone else having the issue with not connection to Wifi or turning on? I'm reading CheapyD's (from CAG) Twitter it appears he's having major problems.

Ok playing around with the vita and figuring out the best way to reset.

You don't need a card in to reset so two memory cards seems to be the way to go if you want to switch between accounts, although it's a bit annoying.

The problem is that when you sign up your account is tied to the system, even if you don't have a memory card in. This means you need to do a full reset in order to change accounts, which means re-entering wi-fi passwords, account name and watching that movie over and over again.

It's annoying because the ability to sign out of one account and into another is there, Sony just seems to have locked it, which is slightly frustrating.

Don't think you even need two, unless you need the space.

Sign up for jpn psn, transfer from ps3/download games. Reset vita, sign in as US account, transfer/download US games.

Then just reset when you need to play the other region games, they can stay on the memory card, just aren't launchable unless you're logged into the correct account

Screw MvC3, I'll try to sell mine today and get a game with actual community (or without a MP mode). This time I'm torn between Disgaea 3 and Dynasty Warriors Next.

Play the DW NEXT demo to see if you like it.
Thing is, I've finished it like 3 times now (plus played it on the event) and I still don't know if it won't get super boring about an hour. Well, guess it means it's time to play it AGAIN.

Edit:
Does anyone know how to format the game cart? I've deleted the icon, but that's all I can think of - there's no such option anywhere.

Are you absolutely sure of this? Because made it sounds impossible.

All I ever wanted was to avoid formatting my card or having to transfer content back and forth every time I switch accounts. I'm willing to sacrifice a few gigs of my card to make that happen.

Can't be certain until there is a US store open, but I downloaded a couple of demos from the jpn store, then reset my vita to a US psn account and the demo icons were still there, it just gave me an error when I tried to launch them. Reset back to a Japan psn account and they were fine.

So you can definitely leave incompatible software on the card
