Ridley Scott's Prometheus Trailer

American Gangster's main story was good, but it had too man side characters padding up to an hour of the run time on not so entertaining bull shit. This ain't Heat, Scott.

I did. But your version didn't jive with the wiki that I read so I wasn't sure which one is the right one. The wiki mentioned the Supernova will reach Earth in 51 years while you mentioned over 250 years. That's quite a huge difference.

I know that too. He's talking about that spoiler that was leaked not too long ago.

Okay, someone need to add that in to the wiki. The wiki implies that the ending was left open-ended with no resolution as to how the device will affect humanity/Earth. Even then, I still say it's not that similar to the mythology or what Ridley's film will be about.

I didn't read the spoiler that was around, just my guess. Regardless I don't mind, anyway it turns out to be I'm looking forward to it:)

After re-watching Alien, I think a PG-13 Prometheus will work. There was hardly much strong language in Alien, and not much gore besides the chestburster scene.

Ok, the only good part of THAT ONE was Max von Sydow.

Robin Hood wasn't a bad film by any stretch. It just didn't live up to the ideal of a Ridley Scott Robin Hood film. What we got was a very average narrative with lovely production design and photography. Same with A Good Year which was a pleasant light romantic dramedy
There isn't anything "bad" in those movies.

Robin Hood's a fucking boring movie. American Gangster isn't bad by any means but it's not very good either.

Ridley Scott's game has been so off lately but I think this might be that spark in his eye. I hope it is at least.

Loving the visuals.

It can work indeed but I'm still more hyped for the R-rated cut that will be put out on BluRay.

Yeah people are overacting.
I know gore, nudity, and strong language are key components of the cheesy horror genre, but they're not necessarily key components of a good sci-fi movie.

One thing I'm worried about is that this movie probably won't be scary, at least nothing like Alien or Aliens.

So I wonder what "kind" of movie it will be, and how it will keep the audience hooked.

I'm thinking they key would be to make the overall crew very "lost", as if they never know wtf is going on or where they really are. That could work a lot more than trying to reproduce the kind of fear of Alien or Aliens, which had to be about the creatures.

so what is this film again exactly

it's an alien prequel with no xenomorphs?

sorta like an aliens universe gaiden or something?

I like the idea that it's a branch off the alien mythology. Mcuh less tricky than trying to fit this into the alien timeline 1:1

After the teaser there pretty much is no doubt that this is an Alien prequel. I really don't understand why they were being coy about it for a while.

Leaked plot:

Man sends a team to learn how the Space Jockeys created us. They will use this to create a perfect, round and firm buttocks like Charlize Theron has. A war wages over the perfect ass.

Aliens was nothing like Alien. Alien3 was nothing like Aliens or Alien. And same with Resurrection. Each entry drastically changed it up.

2nd, the more it tries to imitate previous ones, would most likely hamper it anyways. A good reason why Aliens succeeded was Cameron understanding this. Why attempt to top Alien? Make a new spin on it while drawing the correct source material.

Gonna watch Alien DC tonight. Such an inspiring trailer, one of the best I've seen in years. Been thinking about it alllll day.
Its rare you see something and think "I wanna be able to do that."

I would assume that the chestburster scene was the reason the movie got an R rating in the first place, then again it was 1979.

My god, Alien came out 32 years ago.

By DC I hope you mean the Theatrical Cut

It was most definitely the use of the word "Fuck". I'm pretty sure the chestburster scene would fly, especially since it is about as bad as the face melting in Raiders.

The context is totally different though...

Maybe it would have been pg, but I highly highly doubt it.

Doesn't PG-13 films allow the use of 'fuck' once or three times nowadays? As long as it's not in a sexual context.

Yeah, but we're talking about a time when that rating didn't exist, which is why Temple of Doom changed all that when it showed some guys heart getting ripped out to kids.

You're right about that. Context is definitely important as well.

Maybe it's the porn mag!
Haha. Beastmaster says otherwise. But a combination of all these factors probably pushed it over the edge.

First impressions of the trailer is that it shits on everything Spielberg has ever done.

Costume design is straight up awesome; an evolution of the old sci-fi outfits. Bioware take note

Man, I don't know what it is, but I am really pumped for this movie in a way I haven't been in a while. I keep asking people if they have seen the trailer yet. For some reason I think Ridley has it in him. Like this is the movie he's been running from making for a while now.

Tangent: Wait... Without causing a shit-storm of flames can I ask if anyone actually thought Aliens was scary? I've always thought people liked it as a fun 80s action movie... which I can begrudgingly accept since that's just not my thing.
If I'm allowed to treat it as a horror movie or a suspense movie, I'm putting my gloves back on and getting into some trolling over the holidays. :)

Very nice trailer and I really look forward to this movie.

Might be some random speculation though..:

To me it seems like the thing taken out of that container is some kind of early version of the facehuggers. Can it be a biological weapon? And that the space jockey in Alien is one that got infected and the ship crash landed on LV426. That could mean they evolve. Maybe also the actual queen?

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with this location.

And Aliens is scarier than Alien. People only remember guns going off and classify it as 'action' because their younger selves blocked out the scary parts to protect them. Much thicker sense of tension in Aliens than the first film. That is not saying it is better or anything attempting to fire people up, just that it is thick with tension that doesn't let up and just builds and builds. To remember what it was like, read Ebert's original review of Aliens.

Watching Aliens when younger, the reveal of the Alien Queen was the scariest fucking shit. From the room it was in, the steam everywhere, the heavy breathing (the most "oh god what" part), etc etc.

Read Roger Ebert's review on the film, yes it was scary.

But really, both the movies aren't that scary as they were originally released, it dilutes over time, but both do different ways to tension and suspense as Aliens has some of the longest sustained tension in a movie I've seen in a good while went I watched it again on blu-ray this year, once everything went to hell at the ambush, it barely slowed down.

Though I find a lot of horrors movies themselves aren't necessarily that scary either.
