Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

Pretty sure the game doesn't try and match teams together so there shouldn't be much of a difference.

Hmm. All the complaints I hear about MMs taking too long are usually from single players; who knows.

Was just talking to someone about this yesterday; I'd love to see what DOTA2's MM system actually uses to determine matches at this stage of the game.

I am just wondering whether that internal rating is really taken into account when we are matchmaking, as it happens quite frequently to be in a team where two or three people do not know how to play the game, making the match really easy for the opponents.
Same thing for parties, I used playing against parties of 5, which makes the match more difficult, even though each of them individually may be poor.

I assume the pool of players is too small to have a precise matchmaking, they just fill the teams with available players, whatever their ratings...

You get put in there for leaving too many games, and only get matched up with other low priority players.

Dota 2 is already on the verge of being my 2nd most played game. Bloody hell Valve. I haven't even finished Skyrim yet. Or Arkham City. Or Assassin's Creed 2. Or...

When I play I always get matched with people of equivalent or better skill level, same thing when I queue with groups, it takes the highest rated player on your team and matches you by their rating.

Which skill level did you pick when you first loaded up the game?

I think "experienced" (I do not remember what the term was exactly). I have played DotA before.
Maybe all those "beginners" are people who are experienced in the MOBA genre, but haven't played DotA 1, i.e. people that do not know the heroes, items...

I've only left one game out of like the 10 I've played :|
If you happen to be in the low priority pool, it is written explicitly.

Not sure, check your regions, maybe you have US West checked solely or something.

I think at certain hours when the pool is a lot smaller it may just throw together whatever it can find, but rarely have I experienced a match where I completely outclassed an opponent because I was better then them at a skill level, usually it's just bad choices, or bad lanes that lead to stomps.

Oh man, just tried out my first game of any type of MOBA game ever. I got stomped by bots but even then I realized I want more of this. Looks like my next 6+ months are gonna be packed

Bellevue time cannot get here any sooner.

I would kind of rather it be Bane Elemental, since I know something about him (He's Succubus in Heroes of Newerth). Does Invoker have a HoN equivalent?

He doesn't really have an equivalent in any game.

so did Russia get more beta keys than everyone or did they just crack the game?
getting non-english speaking Russians in every game using US West region
and most of the time they really suck

Yep! There is almost always a patch every Thursday. It's been consistent for at least the last two months.

Normally I would say "Many Western development studios have 1-2 weeks off in the holidays.", but Valve kind of has to be there to run the Winter sale anyway.

Think I'm gonna quit Dota2.

Never going to top winning a game with Phandy on SF.

Biggest game of my LAYF. Shoulders are hurting so bad from all that CARRY GOODNESS.
Callouts for 2v2 sidelane acton, I'll school any of you scrubs as long as I get dat Archie-CM partnership going.

(Serious Business; boy am I glad you guys stomped the rest of the game, otherwise things might have been a tad more salty - SF is literally the ONLY hero I'm not confident enough to even try to play)

They were pretty bad, the Riki and Void got crunched bot.

Also they're updating the backend servers so searching for played games will work again, but it won't find partial matches now.

welcome to mobas, just be glad they werent br or pinoy

phandy on sf is kinda heavy

kinda heavy.

Tbh I think I did respectable enough. Didn't drag the team down, didnt feed. Got decent gpm. Hit 1 good ulti, and hit my razes (bar the 2 I missed infront of archie when i was talking about hitting all my razes.)
Also for first time SF - played SoulStealer on Hon <5 times probably. Possibly the hardest hero in the game?
Could of gone about 100x worse.

I had a game with higher level players earlier that almost completely turned me off on the game. Jesus, the community in this game can suck sometimes.

I've got the game up now.... but the metal doors are closed and I cannot connect to a chat room (or a game).

Is this a known bug? Are servers down? It's been running just fine over the last couple days.
