NFL 2011 Week 17 |OT| It's Time To Shut Up, Fat Boy

Packers. Giants. It's arbitrary to an extent, but there are certain teams that are lower in traits such as bitchassness (see: Thomas Brady) or showboating than others.

The real reason I always hated the Buccaneers is because those early 2000 teams were so fucking cocky with Sapp and Rice. I never minded Brooks or Ronde because they were always classy. It was just the constant showboating and, frankly, in the case of Rice, the subtle late hits that drove me up a wall.

Also, everyone in Atlanta thought Mike Vick was made out of the finest china. Or, as we say in Georgia, Christopher Chandelier.

I know QBR wasn't just mentioned in this thread.

Right?

Quarterbacks get too much credit and too much blame. That said, Romo has made a sport out of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, particularly on national tv.
I don't put stock in it.. just like I don't put any stock in any of his numbers. Because they don't mean shit when your season comes down to a game.. and you blow it. Again.. and again.. and again.

This year it was a team effort, I'll agree. But that doesn't discount him from the blame he deserves. Like you just mentioned, he gets the credit when they win. He'll get the blame when they lose. Typically it's his crippling game-ending INT's or fumbles that ultimately cost the cowboys the game.. he had a couple tonight and I'm glad it ended with one.

Like you said, he makes it his fucking JOB to find a way to lose. No matter how hard it would be for any other QB out there.

I hate to be the guy to say it but Tony Romo is a Top 10 quarterback. He's probably like 9th or 10th in the league but it's almost like every Dallas fan automatically assumes they've got an Aaron Rodgers on the bench waiting in the wings.

Dallas has tons of issues all over. The biggest of which is sitting in the box seats.

I'm having nightmares of JPP, Tuck, Canty, Osi together on the field on 3rd down against our offensive line. Particularly Tuck up on Hawley in isolation.

Well, at least their secondary is bad.

Also, not particularly excited about some combination of Nicks, Manningham, and Cruz running down the field. Maybe BVG has been bluffing all season, and we'll actually start blitzing with some consistency.

while Romo has his dumb dumb moments, he was not the problem this season.

Offense
Doug Free - needs to go to RT next year. See if Tyron Smith can play LT.
Costa - AWFUL. we need a new center. Letting Gurode leave was one of the worst moves of the offseason.

Defense
Spencer - I doubt we give him another contract
Spears - Can't believe we gave him a long-term deal for such a meh player
Newman - LOL
Scandrick - sucks
Sensabaugh - sucks
Jenkins - not bad this year when healthy but always seems to be hurt
Brooking and James - ughhhhhhhhh

Do you think Rodgers is joining the 5,000 yard club next year? We have room for him in the middle with his feet on the hump.

Zero is how many shits I give about yards. If you add up 2012 and 2013 maybe the Lions will match his 15 regular season wins though.

Loser teams care about yards. I see why you have a boner.

How many decades til the Lions win in Wisconsin? Maybe they can play a GB high school next year?

I'm not sure why this storyline hasn't gotten more play, but after being punched in the face by Buddy Ryan, Kevin Gilbride has taken out his two sons in the last two weeks of the season.
Yep. Gilbride revenge tour this year for that shot.

Quick slants to Roddy and Julio all game long. LOL

Should be a good matchup.

Same thing was said about Peyton for years. Plenty of opportunities and the Colts always came up short. Can't believe I'm actually defending Romo here.

Except the Colts are truly a horrific team without Manning. With Manning, near perfect seasons, without Manning, 2-14. I guarantee you Cowboys would have a similar record if they played a decent backup QB.

Infact, last year it was Kitna that beat the NYG :p Kitna does what Romo can't.

Colts #1 Luck, obviously.

Wildcard will be who trades up to St Louis to get RGIII. That will change the whole draft IMO.

Lions should go for RB in the first round. Even though Mikel Leshoure was drafted in the 2nd last year you can never have too much depth at RB as this season proved for so many teams. Get solid OL and DB's in the later rounds.

NO.

NO NO NO NO NO.

I can't say it enough. No more high draft picks on running backs, for the love of God or whatever you happen to hold dear. How can any Lions fan fall into this trap when we've taken early-round RBs two years in a row and we're STILL searching for a running solution?

Intresting. Why haven't I heard more about this? Who the hell is Kevin Gilbride and why did Buddy punch him in the face?

On one hand, as the premier position in the sport, it comes with the territory.

At the same time, like coaches say, one player doesn't lose the game ever. Over the course of 60 snaps on each side of the ball, there are plays to be made by all 11 of your guys on the field. We as fans focus too much on the fourth quarter, which let's us forget the false start on a third down that killed a drive earlier. The personal foul that extended a drive for the other team. A dropped pass here, a missed tackle there.

It's a team sport. The result is a sum of all that happened in the game.

Yeah I agree. He's just been the common denominator for far too long. Anyone other than jackass Jerry would've moved on. Romo could play for another team and be great.. who knows? He just can't get it done in Dallas. The guy is talented, no question. He just isn't the leader that group of prima donnas needs right now. They've got loads of problems.. but Romo is definitely one of them. No matter how good his numbers are.

Should be a good matchup.
If only Mike Mularkey believed in utilizing slants.

Second down in the red zone at the 8 against New Orleans. Julio's isolated on the corner wide without anyone outside the hashes for New Orleans. Corner's playing about two steps deep in the end zone. Perfect time for a slant!

Oh, wait, Julio drifts into the slot and runs a corner straight out of bounds.
How is Atlanta at getting pressure on the QB?
God awful. Can't get any pressure with four guys. We are also certifiably the worst zone blitzing team in NFL history.

Here's hoping BVG pulls his head out of his ass and brings pressure up the gut with consistency because it works with our personnel.

Draft Order (Colts sucked the most for luck)

Hope that win today was worth 7 draft spots Lovie. Dumbass.

Well, it's time for me to eat crow. I was saying it all offseason and it didn't happen. Congrats to the Falcons and Falcons-GAF on making the playoffs even tho I was adamant they wouldn't.

My team will have to put my money where my mouth is by beating them next week. I think it's a horrible matchup for our D. White, Jones, Gonzalez, Turner, and dat OL. Aside from Ryan, the Falcons are like an all-star team on O.

Well, it's fitting that the two most inconsistent teams in the conference meet each other in the first round.

Our line has played better in the last five or so weeks, but I'm seriously nervous about our interior against that pass rush package with Tuck and Canty on the inside. Blalock and Hawley are not great in isolation as pass blockers.

BVG and Smith have to realize that they need to bring pressure consistently. You can't blame your secondary when your front four can't generate anything resembling a pass rush. Hayden and Franks have improved in the past few weeks. Owens is still hot garbage. Grimes will be back next week. Moore has been great when healthy.

As an old ass man when it comes to football, I tend to lean towards the team that's better in the trenches. Le sigh

It's the story for every Giants game, man. Pass rush needs to get there and do so consistently.

Offensively, the Giants will have Ballard back next week which is big.

It shall be an enjoyable game
much more so than another Saints/Falcons game.

Hopefully the Falcons won't show any further signs of regression!

The Giants finished the season over .500 and reached the playoffs. I'm content. And I'm glad the defense is now playing better than it has nearly all year. Makes me hopeful for a miracle.

Romo is not a premier QB, but there are larger problems on Dallas, especially on defense. I'm willing to forgive a lot considering how well he played in Week 14, and how he was playing hurt this week. There were also some huge breaks for the Giants (the two first half fumbles) that would have completely transformed the game if the ball had bounced differently.

That said, just comparing how Romo and Manning respond to intense blitz pressure, Romo got sacked much more than he should have because he was trying to make something happen when there was nothing that was possible. He doesn't have the poise that has made Eli so effective despite his line.

That works the best when he brings Willie Mo up the gut.

I love the Mizzou boys. Weatherspoon is the best playmaker we've had at linebacker since Tuggle. Moore has a great nose for the ball. Really been waiting for a safety like that since...really ever.

Do people really believe the Falcons have a shot next week? The Giants are gonna crush em. They've been playing really well excluding that trap game vs. Washington. Won 3 out of their last 4 scoring averaging over 30pts a game. Also took green bay the distance losing 35-38. Falcons are gonna get rolled, double digits.

After his team missed the playoffs and set the NFL record for penalties and penalty yards in a season, Raiders coach Hue Jackson skipped the traditional postgame handshake with Turner.

“I was just pissed,” Jackson said. “I needed to get inside. I didn’t want to be harassed by people."
Hue mad bro?

First round draft picks need to be impact players. I think Leshoure is going to be a stud, and we still have Best, but what happens if both go out again?

Go for the best running back available with the first or second round pick. If not a RB I think best DB or best OL available, but as much as I love Best, dude won't be around much more due to concussions. We need someone to step up and fill in. Lamar Miller(The U?), David Wilson (Va Tech?) or Lamihael James (Oregon)?

your defense and offensive line are garbage and you want another RB in the first round? productive rb's can be found in late rounds if you have decent coaching. then again the lions coaching staff is a joke so whatever

The Falcons have played 3 good teams out of their last 9 games and lost all 3 (Saints twice and Houston). Check it out for yourself: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/atl This team is a fraud.

9 Sun, Nov 6 New England Patriots @ New England (5-2) W 24 - 20
10 Sun, Nov 13 San Francisco 49ers @ San Francisco (7-1) L 20 - 27
11 Sun, Nov 20 Philadelphia Eagles vs Philadelphia (3-6) L 10 - 17
12 Mon, Nov 28 New Orleans Saints @ New Orleans (7-3) L 24 - 49
13 Sun, Dec 4 Green Bay Packers vs Green Bay (11-0) L 35 - 38
14 Sun, Dec 11 Dallas Cowboys @ Dallas (7-5) W 37 - 34
15 Sun, Dec 18 Washington Redskins vs Washington (4-9) L 10 - 23
16 Sat, Dec 24 New York Jets @ NY Jets (8-6) W 29 - 14
17 Sun, Jan 1 Dallas Cowboys vs Dallas (8-7) W 31 - 14

How many playoff teams did the Giants beat in that same stretch? One.

Also, that bolded score looks somewhat familiar, similar even.

"Playoff teams" wasn't the criteria i was using, just good teams. The Eagles, Cowboys, and Jets are all good teams that were in it till week 17. Then the Pats of course. The Giants' wins in that span were far more impressive. Tougher opponents

Our defense has Ndamakung Suh and Cliff Avril therefore we'll never be garbage.

The question remains will Landry Jones fall to the mid 20's where the Niners are at or does he draft another QB in the 2nd round admitting Colin Kaepernick is garbage(the ending to Alex Smiths career was written years ago)?

Since its obvious that Jerry won't fire Garrett, I hope they at least bring in an offensive coordinator. Personally I would love it if they brought in Norv. I doubt he'll get another head coaching opportunity but he is still a great coordinator, like Wade Phillips.

Plug some holes in the O-line and get some secondary help and I think this team could be really good next year.

The Giants are just as inconsistent as we have been all season. It will all depend on which teams show up....could be a shootout, could be a game full of mistakes by both teams, one team could steamroll the other....I won't pretend to have a fucking clue how this game is going to play out until the 1st quarter is over.

Yeah it's gonna be a great game. Really the only dud I see for next weekend is Cinci @ Houston, which will probably be like a 16-13 type of game with sloppy play.

where were suh and avril as a fucking scout team tore your D up today?

as for the niners qb situation, don't worry about it. harbaugh can turn any qb into a winner. just so happens that alex smith was our QB this year and did a great job, including 5 4th quarter comebacks. you wouldn't know much about 4th quarter comebacks since stafford choked his chance against green bay's 4th stringers away today, but maybe the lions can find a decent qb who doesn't choke under pressure in this years draft
