And yeah, posting in the Gaming side is kind of weird now or in a thread where there aren't that many people with real avatars...

I hoped for a long time being as vocal as I was would get more women out of the woodwork. If anything this post makes me feel awesome not creeped out.

I think this is certainly true to an extent. In my experience GAF is one of the better large communities for favouritism (or lack thereof) and I'm not sure whether pictures could taint that. Sure, GAF isn't immune to it but it tends to be the smaller, niche forums where impenetrable cliques are formed.

Posts like that make me kind of embarassed of GAF. I'm not white knighting at all.

It just sucks that some women still don't feel comfortable expressing themselves here within the glorious walled garden of GAF. Devo-Christ saves more every day though, it seems.

Yes, I am glad we've managed to keep creepygaf mostly in check in this thread -- although a few times the sexual tension has been a little too thick. I know for a fact that at least a few female GAF members have gotten inappropriate PMs, just for starters.

I think this thread works best when it is simply a way to turn our community in to a group of real, living people, instead of abstract concepts. Sony fanboy and Nintendo fanboy find out that they're both just two guys who happen to like different types of games, which isn't such a big deal after all.

I think this thread works least well when it's just about how hot GAF member X is, or how I wish GAFette Y would be my Waifu. That's not a threat from a moderator, by the way (if it were, I'd just ban people or lock the thread), but just someone looking for interesting discussion.

I never really felt embarrassed to post but I can see how some ladies can be ;x I only get embarrassed when my personal friends read my posts hahah

I don't know if embarrassment is the right word, or if it's just feeling alienated, because I have felt very alienated at times. But being the stubborn asshole that I am, I don't drop it, I just keep pushing the issue.

Bolded for truth, it's unbelievably 'humbling' sometimes to see. But wtf at girls getting weird pm's, let's just hope they weren't penis-pics level bad, but either way that's odd (probably new-comers?)

You're my new favorite gaf authority figure too, btw. Opiate is what I want to be when I grow up.

Speaking of The Bachelor, that one show was hilariously similar... Beauty & The Geek. It was awesome at perpetuating two stereotypes at once, but I'll be damned if it wasn't a good guilty pleasure for the few episodes I managed to catch.

Yeah. I wouldn't have gone in that 'rape' discussion thread if I hadn't seen her knocking over victim blame arguments from posters like so much kindle. She was one of the only girls posting at all, so I felt I had to jump in. :P

Hey, fight the good fight.

Whether anyone agrees with you or even if you feel like everyone's against you, as long as you can leave the computer knowing you didn't hold back just because others would rather not be confronted with something counter to their reality, then it's worth it.

Years of lurking before getting approved taught me to completely avoid threads like that. Reading the OP was enough in that case.

Shogmaster's breast augmentation threads were also particularly embarrassing from the get-go.

The unfortunate thing is that, sometimes, there are legitimate discussion to be had, but some people really just take a giant dump on things and steer the ship straight into creepsville.

But seriously I have a hard time imagine creepers actually seriously sending PM's like that, something has to be seriously wrong with you if you think you can pick up chicks on GAF when just seeing her profile pic.
