I'd get so upset because I'd see very decent intellectual debates about a wide swath of issues but then see people fall into dubious sexist shit when it came to discussions of rape, sexual harassment, relationships, etc. I expected better and would come across just terrible fucking viewpoints that to put it bluntly oppress my gender. Just knowing that some of the things I've posted have changed some people's minds, especially in regards to victim blaming, makes swallowing the awful shit worth it sometimes. If one less guy thinks that way and starts to vocalize it to other men, I feel like it's worth the effort. I get passionate precisely because there is no objective nature to being treated with such disrespect and hostility. Being told how to feel about something, how I should behave when someone has the privilege not to deal with the same bullshit, is frankly not a decent discussion and I won't be decent about it.

Yeah... I felt the same way when I first registered. I saw some cool discussions about stuff that I didn't expect and I was particularly happy to see how GAF handled gay issues, but that just made it kind of worse when I'd see terrible posts about women.

Oh I can absolutely imagine this. I'm not suggesting GAF should convert in to a casual-games-only forum. I'd prefer a more open attitude towards both. I'd also like to have ten million dollars and my own scientific research facility while we're dreaming, of course.

Like I said it's real to you and something I don't even notice most of the time(online) but if it makes a positive impact I'm all for it.

It can be real yes. I admit I go into those things with an agenda, precisely because I know what I'm up against, but that doesn't mean I can't find stuff funny, fuck around in other threads or even laugh at myself =).

Thread moves fast completely missed this, yeah don't tell me about highschool. I was bald headed 5'6 and weighed 145 pounds cause all I ever did was play basketball. But just the idea of being invited over by a girl to play PSO was just too much awesome for me.

There's no way to know who is female and who is male because it's not part of the GAF signup process.

I did briefly consider suggesting we knew anyway, however. Just to spook people.

I knew you were a super-villain.

Among Geeks it seems there is a widespread type of anger that is understated in reality while over-exposed on the Internet. The Hardcore Gaming community has over the last few years turned especially awful in some corners of the internet. GAF is by definition that kind of community though, so that's just the specific type we have posting here.
