I could never take him seriously after his South Park freak out with his mom.

Aaron Rodgers is on one of four regional Sports Illustrated covers for the magazine’s annual NFL playoff preview issue.

Should've been Graham Harrell.

NFL Blitz is out for XBL/PSN.

Will try out the demo for a laugh, then probably delete it afterwards.
Shit, I forgot all about that - let me know how it is. I have a $25 Gamestop gift card I was thinking of using for PSN credit because I have no clue what else to get.

Anyone pick it up?

Because Goodell catered to the offensive side of the ball to the point where it's damn near impossible to play good defense in the league?

That started under Tagliabue. I don't think Goodell even accelerated it, just continued on his mentors plan.

It looks pretty much exactly the same as the last NFL Blitz, minus the late hits.

I wonder if the players lead with the crown of their helmet in this one. It was the standard tackle in the last Blitz. Ho ho ho

I didn't know there was a recent Blitz. Last one I played was for the Nintendo 64. I think the Gameday people made NFL Xtreme as well which made me rethink my life.

NFL Gameday had the best intro while we're on the topic. Madden just doesn't get me excited anymore with some "Bow Wow I'm a Dog here be Bark whereever I'm at" song.

Giants pre-playoff practice report:

DE Osi Umenyoira (Ankle/Knee) - Will go full in practice today. No setback on the ankle from the Cowboys game.
WR Mario Manningham (Knee) - Full practice. Off the injury report entirely.
WR Hakeem Nicks (Hamstring) - Full practice. Off the injury report entirely.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw (Foot)- Will not practice. Usual practice schedule for him going once or twice a week.
TE Jake Ballard (Knee) - Limited practice. He was running and catching passes. May do more depending on how he feels.
LB Mark Herzlich (Knee) - Very limited. Doing individual drills and not much else.
RB Da'Rel Scott (Knee)- Very Limited. Knee issue will likely keep him out.

NFL.com and Michael Lombardi are still trying to sell the Spags to Giants story:

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/01/02/spagnuolo-will-be-hot-commodity-on-d-coordinato/

NFL.com analyst Michael Lombardi believes a return to the Giants remains a possibility despite New York’s late surge to the NFC East title. Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has been heavily criticized this season, and Lombardi said Spagnuolo is extremely well-regarded within the organization.
I don't buy it personally unless there is another major defensive collapse in the playoffs that earns Perry a ticket out of town. Personally, I think Fewell deserves another year if the Giants defense continues to play well. I know that won't be popular among some of the Giants fans here but he's put together a mash unit all season long with the various injuries and this isn't like the Sheridan situation where the defensive players just completely outright quit and didn't believe in the scheme.

Sadly, I feel you are right. :-/

One of my big fears for Saturday is us going into the no huddle and Ryan calling a bunch of failed passing plays that ends up with us getting away from the run game.

I hope you're not watching it Saturday. One of us is going to be disappointed.

Damn, Jake Ballard is practicing for the Giants today. One more guy to worry about.

Ballard was the Giants’ fourth-leading receiver this season, with 38 catches in 14 games. In his absence, Bear Pascoe and Travis Beckum each caught two passes in the Giants’ victory over Dallas last week that clinched the NFC East title. They did not have a reception from a tight end the previous week vs. the Jets.

A nice little chat from SBN:

SB Nation Atlanta: Two things I fret about as a Falcons fan: good opposing defensive lines and wide receivers. The 2011 line has done a better job as of late keeping Ryan clean than it did at the outset, thanks to some personnel switch-ups, but I've been impressed by the Giants' defensive line depth for years now.

And this Victor Cruz guy is an individual I'd rather have no part of. He will get two touchdowns on Sunday, I'm confident.

That said, after a quick look at the numbers it seems the Giants can be run upon, which fits what Atlanta prefers to fall back on anyway.

Now, about this Giants secondary ... shouldn't it be better, given that pass rush?

SB Nation New York: Well, that's a sore point. There are several issues there. The biggest one, I believe, is that they have been mis-used by defensive coordinator Perry Fewell for much of the year.

The Giants have guys like Corey Webster and Aaron Ross, who were drafted as press man-to-man cover guys and that is what they do best. Fewell is a softer, zone scheme, try to outstmart the opposition guy when it comes to his secondary. That has gotten the Giants burned a number of times this season. First of all, it's not what his players do best. Second of all, with six corners on IR there has been a lot of shuffling and communication breakdowns.

The other issue is that the Giants safeties, notably Deon Grant and Kenny Phillips, are just not fast enough to plug all the holes in Cover 2 and other zones.

The Giants have been much better the past two weeks as Fewell has FINALLY relented, simplified the coverages somewhat and just let guys play.

31-28 Atlanta wins.

Giants run defense has been much improved as of late thanks to the return to health of Michael Boley and the emergence of Kiwi settling into the LB position. Kiwi in particular has become quite the run stuffer as of late.

Reading all of the scouting shit is useless for both of these teams. Both are so damned inconsistent. Which team will show up this weekend? That's all that matters. I hope we get the best out of both teams and it's a quality game.

Giants defense shows up at home in bad weather against a dome team on the road. They win 24-17. There's my prediction. Setting up what should be an amazing rematch at Lando (for Dirtbag!) field. I don't think the Lions will beat the Saints. If they do though and we do win, that would put the Giants in San Fran, right?

Some stats for the game:
- In the playoffs, Mike Smith is 0-2; Tom Coughlin is 8-7.
- Against each other on various teams, Mike Smith is 0-2; Tom Coughlin is 5-1.
- ATL is 6-10 overall in the playoffs.
- ATL's sack leader is John Abraham with 9.5. JPP, the Giants' sack leader, has 16.5.
- Atlanta is 2-2 in the WC round.
- The Giants are 5-4 in WC games.
- The Giants had a 96-yard TD drive vs. Dallas one week after they had a 99-yard TD drive vs. NYJ. It was the 1st time NYG had scoring drives of at least 90 yards in consecutive games since Weeks 6 + 7 of the '92 season.
- The Falcons and Giants have never met in the playoffs. Regular season series is ties 10-10. Giants have won the last three outings.
- Victor Cruz had 7 100-yard games, most by Giant in a season.
- Eli has posted 7 straight seasons with 3K+ passing yards & 20+ pass TDs, the most in team history.
- 2011 Playoff berth is the 5th playoff berth in Coughlin's tenure. That tied the beloved Bill Parcell's regime for the most playoff appearances in team history.
- The Giants' .500+ record this year is their 7th straight, their longest streak since 1954-63.

Yeah, this is really the biggest tossup of the weekend. Just have no clue which version of either team is going to show up. All I know is that I'm pretty damn tired of this team being one and done in the playoffs. Dimitroff, Smith, Blank etc. have done a great job reconstructing the reputation of this organization over the past few years, but it's time to take the next step.

Correct.

My optimal path through the playoffs is to steamroll the Lions for the third time this season and then crush the Giants in the conference championship. Once Rodgers' career ends in the second quarter with two blown out knees, Flynn will come in and do what Brent couldn't four years ago: not horribly fuck up and slang the game away.

Then we'll destroy the Broncos in Indy to avenge Super Bowl XXXII. Tebow will devolve into an atheist right onto the 50-yard line, Rodgers will headbutt the kid from the Make-A-Wish Foundation with him on the sidelines, and Flynn will be carried off the field holding the Lombardi Trophy high. An emergency vote to immediately enshrine him in Canton will take place the next day.

Mark it down.

And I'd say odds are it won't be us, as the road team.
I have a feeling though. I'm sure everyone on this team realizes that they can't go one and done again.
They just can't.
They can't.

This is incredible.

They can and they will. :D

Matty Ice freezes up when the post season hits.

Review please.

I only played the game for about four minutes and reached the end of the first half. No matter what play you choose, it just feels like you are running the same play over and over. The collision in the game is absurd. Right off the bat I had a 80 yard kick off run just stiff arming everyone without trying too hard.

Every player looks the same. There doesn't seem to be any variation in the skill levels between players. There seemed to be no difference between Woodhead, Ochocinco, and Welker.

Even if I had a bunch of friends over for nostalgia party, I don't think we could get past a game or two. This is just my quick opinion on the game. Give the trial a shot. This is coming from someone who really liked the XBLA version of NBA Jam.

It's the NFC championship.
Falcons vs. Saints.

What do you do?
In that case, I'd have to pick the lesser of 2 evils.
The Saints.
Doesn't mean I'd be happy about it.
But I'd rather not have the Falcons in the Super Bowl, that's just wrong.
Of course, the chances of that happening are about as high as the Bucs going 19-0 next season.
So I'm not worried.
