NFL 2011 Wild Card |OT| Where Everyone Is In Like Flynn

My optimal path through the playoffs is to steamroll the Lions for the third time this season and then crush the Giants in the conference championship. Once Rodgers' career ends in the second quarter with two blown out knees, Flynn will come in and do what Brent couldn't four years ago: not horribly fuck up and slang the game away.

Then we'll destroy the Broncos in Indy to avenge Super Bowl XXXII. Tebow will devolve into an atheist right onto the 50-yard line, Rodgers will headbutt the kid from the Make-A-Wish Foundation with him on the sidelines, and Flynn will be carried off the field holding the Lombardi Trophy high. An emergency vote to immediately enshrine him in Canton will take place the next day.

Mark it down.

Beautiful. I hope the story ends with the Packers trading Flynn and Rodgers for 10 first round picks and the birth of the Graham Harrell dynasty

snes, what are you doing?!

Close that window and back away from the ledge, right now!

But you have so much left to live for!

I don't think Tampa has any building taller than 2 stories. He could cover hmself in bacon grease, throw himself in the drainage canal, and wait for the gators.
But being a football fan, he will want to wait and see whom the Bucs pick for a new coach.

Fuck you, Roddy.

Roddy gonna Rod.

In that case, I'd have to pick the lesser of 2 evils.
The Saints.
Doesn't mean I'd be happy about it.
But I'd rather not have the Falcons in the Super Bowl, that's just wrong.
Of course, the chances of that happening are about as high as the Bucs going 19-0 next season.
So I'm not worried.

You mean you rather the Saints have a chance to get 2 championships rather than the Falcons just get one?

Come'on Son!

Flynn will go to Indy in exchange for Luck and three future first-rounders, making the Colts' season hilarious in retrospect. Rodgers will get shipped for seven future first-round picks to Chicago where good quarterbacks go to die. Chicago will sweeten the pot with Forte, who will take a meager contract just to get out of football purgatory and be part of a winner for once.

What have you been smoking in that ice fishing shack? Anyway, I would make sure there was ventilation for the stove, the monoxide levels may be too high.

I would buy your book if you wrote one.

Luck should be grateful he learns how to play the position behind Harrell.

I didn't live in Tampa when I was in Florida.
I was in Sarasota, and now I live in the shit hole known as Asheville, NC.

I don't want either team getting a championship, but I hate the Falcons more.

Three hours of sleep, four coffees, and cramming Excel info into my brain have made me into a lunatic today.

A PROPHETIC LUNATIC.

kind of true. Its the Nicks effect. How many times has this happened to the giants? Steve Smith has good year, nicks beasts on the other side of him. Nicks beasts...but Nicks is very good so they kind of can't stop him. Other side of nicks for a season Manningham has a good season and over inflates his worth which is why he's still with the Giants.

Cruz can go two ways: They start planning for him (but he's in the slot, so how effective is that?) and he starts to suck or he's a welker type and keeps on chugging since he is pretty fast and isn't afraid of the middle.

Someone ought to tell Roddy that teams have been game planning for him for weeks now. He's beating double coverages with some of these catches. Plus he is getting these huge gains out of the slot to boot.

True in that coverages are being moved around the field which opens it up for the opposing receiver but Cruz has been getting plenty of attention for weeks now.

Cruz Control?

Is there any doubt about Green Bay franchising Flynn? Is there anyone else on the Packers roster in a situation where they would need to be tagged?

You know what I'm sick of these receivers getting these easy releases off the line. Defenses need to start making it hell for these receivers to get pass those first 5 yards off the line. I'm talking about jaw jacking, body blowing, whatever it takes.

isn't this what KC did to the pats? I remember welker getting roughed up at the line quite a bit.

No one else worth franchising. At least I sure hope Ted feels the same way about Finley as all the fans.

If he doesn't have an inclination of a team willing to move for Flynn, he won't tag him though. It's not a huge risk since the packers restock in the draft and almost never use the FA market(plenty of cap space), but he still wouldn't do it just because he can.

If he's unsure, he'll let Flynn hit the market and take the comp pick.

Packers can franchise HOFinley! But they are better off putting the tag on Flynn and getting a pick out of it!

Just an educated guess, but I think the removal of GM Jerry Angelo in Chicago had something to do with the continued failure of Angelo to fix a terrible offensive line -- the Bears allowed a league-high 105 sacks over the last two seasons -- and their collapse this season after losing Jay Cutler. Trotting out J'Marcus Webb for the last 32 games at starting tackle is a continuing embarrassment; according to ProFootballFocus.com, Webb has allowed 24 sacks and 77 quarterback pressure in the last two years. This is the best the Bears can do? And to continue to play Caleb Hanie while Rome burned ... I'll join the cacophony of Chicagoans who have asked: Are you saying Donovan McNabb wasn't better than that?"

HoFinley I think is up for a new contract but no way he gets franchised after this last season and his demeanor. Actually works out best for us that this season he is lackluster because now we get to resign him on the cheap.

If teams want to single cover Hakeem Nicks, go for it.

And it's not like Cruz hasn't seen double teaming. He beat Aso and the S in the first PHI game and scored a TD, got doubled vs. DAL and still beat them countless times. And so forth. Cruz is way more talented than Steve Smith, and Mario has talent also, but he has his severe mental lapses which is why Victor has surpassed him on the depth chart and hasn't been looking back.

You don't have near 1,600 rec. yards and averaging close to 19 yards a catch by being a flash in the pan or an overachiever like some are making him out to be. Will he achieve this success again? Doubtful because hopefully the Giants run game won't be such ass in the future and they can be more balanced instead of passing majority of the time.

Why would that be a joke? Unless the Packers simply can't take the temporary salary load, there are a ton of teams looking for someone with Flynn's ability. He has proven he can play on the professional level. Worst case scenario? The team lets him walk at the end of the season. A single season of a high salary isn't absurd in the 2012 NFL.

Michael Wright on ESPN 1000 mentioning the Bears might go after Ravens GM Eric DeCosta.

There's also some noise about some packers personnel guy coming over because of a Lovie connection.

Proven against what, two of the worst d's? You thought Kolb was a sure thing too huh?

Chicago media can spin things any way they like but $11 million + is the only reason why lovie smith is coming in here. And the thing that pissed me off the most about the press conference yesterday afternoon was, we are going to have to find a GM that is going to buy into our lame duck head coach's philosophy.

Why? They could just tell the GM that he has to deal with Lovie for one year until his contract expires. It is not an ideal situation but I dont see why it would be a deal breaker, and if Lovie doesnt have anything in his contract about final say they could let the new GM make all the moves this offseason and maybe Lovie would feel slighted and quit.

After what Flynn has shown, he's going to want a longer term contract and bigger money than what should be paid for a backup. We can either let him walk in free agency and get nothing, or we can franchise him and either trade him or, worst case scenario, have a very solid backup to our QB who gets hurt occasionally.

See, unlike the Bears, we'd rather not have hot garbage behind our starting QB.

You are underestimating how much pull Lovie has.

Big Ben suffers a setback:

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/39636/roethlisberger-suffers-little-setback

"I had a little setback early in the third quarter [at Cleveland last Sunday]," Roethlisberger said today. "We’re working really hard with the trainers and doctors to get back to even where we were before the Cleveland game. I felt pretty good going in and moved a little bit at the beginning of that game. It’s a little setback but we’ll get moving."

Roethlisberger indicated that he probably got set back "about a week." This is exactly the reason why I was in favor of Roethlisberger sitting out the regular-season finale.

Since spraining his left ankle on Dec. 8, Pittsburgh has scored two touchdowns in 10 quarters with him as quarterback.

With the injury, Roethlisberger hasn't been able to follow through on his passes because he is unable to put weight on his left leg. He has completed 56 of 96 passes (58.3 percent) for 729 yards. He has thrown one touchdown and four interceptions for a 68.4 passer rating.

It's stupid for whichever team wants to trade for him, if they are desperate enough to want to trade for him they can let the pack franchise tag him twice and wait it out instead of giving up first round picks. And Flynn isn't going to get tag money from a 3-4 year deal from the pack so I'm guessing he'd be satisfied getting tagged. It's not like he has to resign with whoever trades for him.

Do you franchise HoFinley or HoFlynn?

HoFlynn easily.

HoFinley likely doesn't have as huge of a market for him as he did at the beginning of this season. We'll be able to lock him up.

Except this is a results driven league and there are teams that need to win games yesterday. If they can get a potentially great QB who has shown in the NFL that he can play, they'll do it.

You think you will retain him? Seems to me like all he does is run his mouth and Thompson doesn't like that. It seems he is more expendable than once imagined.

no i'm not. lovie was part of the problem and he should have been shipped out with angelo. he was involved with the decision making with the bad draft picks and not developing talent. unless the bears as an organization are happy to settle for mediocrity then i guess lovie's been a good head coach. 3 trips to the playoffs in 8 years isn't cutting it in my opinion, and only once in 5 years.

Comparing Kolb to Flynn is silly. Again, most teams would take the bait with Flynn. He has looked fantastic when on the field. One year with him at absurd money, then either don't resign him or extend him to a healthy contract. He has shown more than Kolb ever had during his overrated peak.

Which is why if we keep him, we'll get him for cheap.

We'll see how much he likes winning versus money I suppose. I'm sure some team like the Bills or Browns won't mind his attitude.

Whoa.Thats like the same dude.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

If the Packers franchise Flynn, aren't they potentially on the hook to have to pay him the average of the top 6 paid QBs in the league or something? Isn't that really, really dumb?
