NFL 2011 Wild Card |OT| Where Everyone Is In Like Flynn

The Jets and the NFL have really screwed themselves with Mark Sanchez. They spent all this time and money turning him into this big name quarterback who does all kinds of commercials and has become a face not only for the Jets but also for the league as a whole. Oh and the kid has won gets credit for a few playoff games.

Now the Jets are in a position where they should be seriously considering a new QB (although, we all could have told them before this year that Sanchez probably wasn't the guy) but they have a PR problem on their hands. Hell, the whole team has a PR problem because they're not living up to the hype at all.

The Peyton Manning thing is hilarious. Any Jets fan dreaming of that must secretly want him to die on the field. Wayne Hunter would make sure of it.

Also Holmes is getting jumped on.

I want that dog.

I can't get over Gruden calling college football.

So many "GOOD-LUCKING YOUNG FOOTBALL PLAYERS OUT THERE!!" The way he's been talking, I wouldn't want him coming anywhere near the players. He might want to horse around and shit.

But I wish Detroit could pull it off. It'd be nice to beat that joke of a team/defense/QB three times. I guess it'll be even nicer to beat Brees in his first and last games of his season instead.

Hey, welcome to NFL Gaf. We have missed you all season! Nice of you to drop in during the playoffs, though. Whats it like being a fan of a team only when the playoffs start? Are you going to disappear once the playoffs are over and come back again during next years playoffs? Just curious!

saw these stats:

AS = Aldon Smith
VM = Von Miller

Sacks: AS-14 VM-11½
QB Hits: AS-27 VM-24
FF: AS-2 VM-2
FR: AS-1 VM-0
PD: AS-4 VM-4
Safeties: AS-1 VM-0

defensive rookie of the year should go to aldon smith. now you might say "well aldon smith is a specialist who rushes the qb!" well so fucking what. should demarcus ware never be in consideration for defensive player of the year? he rushes the qb like 90% of the time (like von miller).

if aldon smith isn't selected as defensive rookie of the year then this league is racist

:jnc

Aldon is a stud who really came on strong mid-season (as you clearly know!). I think he should win it too. His production has been nuts. He has helped open things up for your D-line too, with the attention teams need to pay to him. I fear for Glass shoulder next season when we play again!

What if the award goes to another young African American man?

Or are you implying that the league is racist against San Francisco and it's football team? In which case, I don't blame them. You tree-hugging, hippie-lettuce smoking hippies!

I don't see them dumping Castillo either, but they can re-assign his position. However, I'm with you on the Washburn thing. I am wondering how that works out.

Well I don't think Spags is coming to the Eagles. I also think they keep Juan even if he doesn't come abck as the DC. They might promote him to GM at this rate :/

Anyway even if Spags agrees to run the wide 9, at least with him on board I know the LBs play would improve.

FMT will single-handedly (because we know what he's doing with the other hand) keep the 9ers from winning the SB by annoying the world with his troll-douchery!

But at least we'll be able to witness the meltdown, which is always fun.

Also, after reading like this entire week's thread today:
- Fuck college football
- The Pack will tag Flynn and TT will laugh his ass off as Daniel Snyder offers multiple 1st rounders
- If there are going to be fans creeping onto NFL-GAF just for the playoffs, do they have to be more fucking Packers fans?
- and of course :jnc at immaculate infection. Instant classic.

don't you see that the niners have already won? if i told you before the season that you'd be posting about the 49ers possibly winning the superbowl you'd have laughed me off neogaf. but here we are!

here is the progression for you and all the other dumbfucks (media included):

1. lulz niners gonna get the top pick and draft andrew luck
2. lulz niners are pretenders, wait till they play someone good
3. lulz so what, niners play in a weak division, they'll be eliminated in the wildcard
4. lulz who cares if they got the #2 seed, saints will embarrass them in san fran

future postings:

1. lulz saints were a joke anyways, niners still haven't beaten anyone
2. lulz packers had a horrible defense, of course the niners beat them.
3. lulz no way can the niners beat tim tebow
4. lulz weak year for the league is why the niners won the superbowl

and all the while i'll be sitting here and laughing all the way to the bank to make the biggest deposit of bitter tears in the history of mankind!

Smith has had a great year. Miller has been considerably less effective since the injury. Smith is less well rounded defensively in that he is limited to passing plays. I think if Miller didn't get hurt it would have been a lock. Now it seems like a toss up. The only thing that sets Miller apart from Smith at this point is that he is pretty much an every down player, while Smith isn't. Plus Miller's presence is a bigger part of Denver's defensive "whole" than Smith is at this point. Even if Miller doesn't win it Smith certainly earned it.

is there a reason you keep forgetting total number of tackles?

A little important stat for a defensive player.

tackles:

VM = 64
AS = 37

not a big deal to be honest. OBVIOUSLY he's going to have more tackles because he has played 2 times as many downs. aldon is also playing with a bunch of probowlers who help him but also get tackles of their own.

i like von miller, but i'm not going to make excuses for aldon smith. contrary to popular belief, he does drop into coverage from time to time and has played the run reasonably well. if he was a full time player he would have set the NFL rookie sack record

Dumbest shit ever. If any quarterback in the world came to the line of scrimmage and saw two white cornerbacks, he'd immediately check to all 9's. Touchdown every single play.

lol. True. And they were hurting for DTs but forgot Kyle Williams? What?

Of course, conversely, I think we can all agree we'd rather have A.Rod or Brady* on our magic team than Cam or Vick.

Fair enough. Miller did also miss a game, and towards the beginning of the year had been sat because he was making rookie mistakes. So he missed his share as well. At this point it's a toss up, either guy is deserving in my opinion.

He has played 2 times as many down because he is not a one dimensional player.

Both are great. but Von is clearly ahead of him as a complete player. If AS was a complete defensive player , Jim would have him playing every down.

i have only watched 3 broncos games, and in all of them von miller almost exclusively went after the QB. i didn't rewind the game and re-watch every play but if you think that the broncos aren't using von miller primarily as a pass rush specialist you are an idiot.

aldon smith isn't starting for a few reasons:

1. we have pretty good linebackers as is and they are familiar with the 3-4
2. aldon smith was making the transition from DE to OLB and we had no offseason

i agree coming into the season von miller was more prepared, having already played LB in college, but don't fool yourself into thinking von miller is some multi-dimensional LB that they have sticking on the opposing teams #1 TE in pass situations

His thumb set him back big time.

Pears dominated him in the Buffalo game and while Pears has been better than anyone could've imagined, a healthy Miller would've blasted his ass repeatedly if he was 100%.

Can't really bag on the guy too much. Harbaugh asked him to do the job, and he has done it very well. So much so that he is clearly having a big impact on games. I'm not sure if he is one dimensional or not since we don't really get to see him in that capacity. I haven't watched every 9ers down, so I don't really know how often he is used in other situations.
