Seems like I have a "D'oh"-moment with this phone every day. I was complaining (to myself) about the missing chat in the Facebook-App. Well, today I looked into the "Message"-Hub for the first time...
Anything else that is so different from the iOS on my old iPod Touch that I might have missed it?
Also, I really don't like the tab switching in IE, that was handled much better in Safari on the iPod. And is there really no "forward" button in IE?
I know the OS itself can do a lot of things, and comes off really smooth. Still when you really look at things the OS is really hamstrung by an older kernel gone by. Hopefully 2012's big update fixes things. It might not be a bullet point feature for the public, but a new modern kernel could be the biggest thing to happen for the OS outside of being initially created.
I don't know if you would have the answer, but:
Would a kernel change (which would entail a more massive change than the already big changes in Mango) require new hardware, or would the existing phones be upgradable once MS adopts a new kernel, presumably in Apollo?

Have any new phones been announced for Sprint? After my Surround bit the dust I decided to give Android a chance since I could pick up a good phone for free. And yeah...really missing WP at the moment. The Arrive seems like decent little thing, but if something (hopefully from Nokia) is coming on the horizon I can probably wait.
Sprint could still get something new, but nothing has been announced and since they're not that interested in WP, you'll have to wait a bit.
For anyone that is still interested, my Titan connected to the Ford Sync right away. I just hadn't walked it through the initial process of connecting it before. Thanks all! It didn't look like it supported texting, but I didn't run any actual tests because it's like 10 fucking degrees out.
Sync is very hit and miss. In my 2010 Fusion Hybrid, sync works off and on with texting. Right now it's working fine, at times in the past it didn't work.
This is with an original Focus.
I'm gonna check to see if Sync's had any firmware upgrades lately, maybe that will help with WP7 integration.
Man, are Nokia's screens really that subpar?

I'm really sensitive to these things. Wondering if I should stick with Samsung for my next phone...

Ok thanks, wasn't aware of the screen differences between their models. All of the Samsungs have the same screen type right?

good reviews as always from anandtech
sites like engadget theverge should look at it on how you do proper reviews
I picked up a Trophy to give the Windows phone a test run and it's pretty cool so far.
The only question I have is is it true you can't stop music/podcasts but only pause them? It's incredibly annoying to see random items paused when my phone is locked or playing in the background and me not knowing since I usually have my volume turned off when I'm not using a headset.

Anandtech ususally does quality articles and those take time, which means they aren't "first". For sites like Engadget or The Verge that's out of question.
Theres a lot to like in Nokias first US Windows Phone. The bargain price belies a solid set of features; quick performance and an elegant though not thin design. Call quality is excellent, the camera takes good photos and the phone is fast. Gaming is fluid and fun, the Zune music experience is as ever enjoyable and streaming video plays well over T-Mobiles HSPA+ network. If youre looking for an easy to pocket smartphone thats wallet-friendly, the Nokia Lumia 710 is worth a look. It beats the HTC Radar 4G Windows Phone on T-Mobile for both price and specs, and its a lovely introduction to Windows Phone. We do wish the front buttons werent so maddeningly difficult to press and that the Lumia 710 had the mobile hotspot feature, but those are our only two complaints.
The 710 says a lot about the Windows Phone experience as how a low spec device can run WP7 very well without a monster price tag.
Microsoft's aiming for the market of low-powered Android devices, which is a market that hurts Android's image.
Finally. If the 900 comes to Rogers, then I will probably pick it up as an upgrade to my Focus.MobileSyrup has apparently confirmed that the 710 will be the launching in Canada soon followed by the 900. Pretty sure we already knew this but it is still nice to hear. I hope one of the phones comes to Fido so I can try to convince my wife to get one. She has been talking of getting an iPhone lately (currently has a BB)![]()
The 710 has the same specs as the best spec'd devices we can buy![]()

The 710 is not only the same specs as the best hardware out there right now, but it's significantly faster than the original devices released at launch (like the Samsung Focus) which still run the identical software perfectly smoothly.
Isn't the phone advertised as an entry-level Windows Phone?
Microsoft pays for the port, but not for the support over a longer period and unless the devs themselves care (they don't), you'll have to wait for some intern to recompile and resubmit it.Just got an update for plants vs zombies and as usual, no fast fucking resume.
Why do I even bother.
Only issue is to initialize a text you need to nlock your phone and hold home to get speeech prompt. otherwise, perfect.
