FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has been named NFL offensive rookie of the month for December/January.

After coming back from a hamstring injury, Jones caught 24 passes for 461 yards and six touchdowns in the final five games of the regular season.

Despite missing three games and the majority of two others because of injury, Jones posted the best season by a Falcons rookie receiver with 54 catches for 959 yards and eight touchdowns. He recorded more yards and touchdowns than any Falcons rookie before him and only Shawn Collins caught more passes in his first season when he caught 58 balls in 1989.

A few more stats:

- Of the 12 playoff teams, the Falcons have the 2nd-worst strength of victory this season (.375). The Giants have the 2nd-best (.465).
- Half of Matt Ryan's 26 sacks came in the first three games of the season (5 vs. Chi, 4 vs. Phi, 4 vs. TB).
- The last time Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez had fewer than 60 catches in an NFL season, Victor Cruz was 12 years old.

Yeah, Smith said that we'd use less of a rotation in the postseason. Think we'll see more of the Abraham, Babineaux, Peters, Edwards group on the field together with more Sidbury on obvious passing downs rather than using Bierman and Jerry on 1/3 of snaps.

Interested to see how the defensive line does with less of an emphasis on rotating snaps. Smith basically said that we'll be rolling with our best guys regardless, so Abe may be able to get into more of a rhythm.

Former Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins has joined the piling on in New York.

Jenkins, who played for the Jets his final three seasons before retiring prior to the 2011 season, said on the Mike Lupica Show that he doesn’t believe quarterback Mark Sanchez is the kind of leader the team needs. Jenkins praised third-string quarterback Greg McElroy for speaking out about the toxic environment in the Jets’ locker room, and questioned why Sanchez hadn’t similarly spoken out.

“The No. 1 quarterback should have said that a long time ago,” Jenkins said. “It would have been all part of the process of him growing a pair and standing up and being a man. But the thing is, he lost his because he got caught up in the wash that is New York, the spotlight, taking pictures in the magazines and doing all that stuff. That’s just what everybody has seen with Mark Sanchez, they got tired of it.”

In fairness to Sanchez, who posed for GQ during the lockout, he’s far from the first NFL player to have his picture taken for a magazine. When Tom Brady poses for GQ, no one says he’s not a leader. The difference is that Brady didn’t become a celebrity outside the football world until he had a Super Bowl ring. Sanchez is finding out that quarterbacks who get the celebrity treatment before they get the ring will hear harsh criticism.

Jenkins said he was impressed by Sanchez’s potential when they played together, but he questions whether Sanchez has it in him to command respect within the Jets’ locker room.

“Mark wants to be a leader but there’s a difference between wanting it and taking it,” Jenkins said. “He’s always trying to be a crowd pleaser. He’s always trying to be nice. He wants to be a leader but he won’t take it.”

So far Sanchez has kept quiet about the problems inside the Jets’ locker room. Perhaps the first step toward assuming leadership inside the Jets’ locker room is to speak up about the problems inside the Jets’ locker room.

Mike Lupac has a show? Who the fuck listens?

That fat fuck destroyed Dre Kirkpatrick, ate him the fuck up. Hope he gets himself in shape too much talent to waste.

Nice and cheap... Bucs will never learn. If you want a good team you have to spend money on good coaches and players. Im sorry you have to deal with this dm. I will accept you as a niners fan whenever you want on the train!

Pfft, Sherman was actually great until he got actual GM power. He ain't getting power in Tampa!

Same here. If we aren't getting anywhere rushing 3 or 4, I think BVG is going to have to roll the dice a few times and send more guys at Eli. I also hope that some kind of press is in the game plan. I know Grimes and Robinson aren't exactly built for it, but something, anything on the line should help.

I look forward to Mark Dominik making another free agency splash this offseason by signing a long snapper to a multi-year contract to go alongside your punter. :)

Sanchez is on the phone with Jenkins RIGHT NOW.

Bro, I mean, have you no idea what the hell he did at Texas A&M this past year? He's a joke. He coasted off a lot of talent at GB and the best thing you can say about his career is he opened the door for Ted Thompson

If they make him HC, snesfreak should give up watching football for awhile. b/c he will not survive at the rate he's going

Just don't let Decoud cover Cruz by himself! :jnc

It was actually more Mark Barron, but yeah, that day, he ate up whoever was opposite of him. Made Dre, Barron, and Millner look bad repeatedly.

Alshon last year, was insane. Better than Julio Jones or AJ Green.

The excuse of "QB Issues" hurting him this year, are just disingenuous. He's overweight and was out of shape alot of the year. But showed signs against Nebraska, of how he played in 2010.

I just realized how amazing the Steelers #1 defensive ranking truly is (especially points allowed) considering they've only taken away a league low 15 turnovers over the course of the entire season. That's less than one turnover a game. That's more than half as much as the 49ers who are ranked 2nd in points allowed.

Having said that, the fact that we can't force a turnover to save our lives is worrying as fuck heading into the Playoffs :|

Bill Walsh was a joke when he returned to Stanford, and I'd still sign his ashes today.

Yeah he did do a number on Denard. Definitely remember him beating Kirkpatricks press, and that's what he does best.

Was reading that he loves the drink, would explain the gut.

We're going to get like 4 take aways this weekend.

I've had nightmares all week of Cruz toasting DeCoud and Robinson.
I'm sure Giants fans would say the same of Jones and/or Roddy matched up against Aaron Ross and Grant on the backside.:( Gonzales and Douglas out of the slot against Rolle is a match-up nightmare as well. You can bet Boley will be in on plenty of coverages there. Especially on Gonzales.

Youre proud of your D sucking dick at causing turnovers? We already saw who the best D was head to head. Your D got styled on by alex and our D dominated you over and over again

When we see you in the super bowl, you'll be facing a full QB, not 10% of one! And we should've played you guys the way we played the Pats. That was poor coaching, I think.

Someone in here said that Sanchez was more interested in becoming a GQ model than a QB, I told a few of my friends that and they all agreed. This was supposed to be his year, he has a damn good supporting cast as well.

With that said, he still starts next year and McElroy is probably cut.

J-E-S-T!

I love how prior to the game everyone is saying that Ben is going to tear it up because he plays better injured. As soon as he gets his ass handed to him everyone backpedals and says "Well he was hurt! You can't expect him to play well!" Terrible.

We had no Harrison and a hobbled Woodley who had to leave by the 2nd half, resulting in absolutely no pass rush, and Alex Smith and your offense still put up shit numbers despite this and the fact that they had ridiculous field position the entirety of the game.

Your defense contained one legged Ben and his Pouncyless offensive line, truly a feat worthy of hanging your hat on. Congrats!

As much as I would love to see that match up, there's no way the 49ers are holding their side of that agreement with bitch hands Alexis behind center.

Remember when the gimpy ass Packers beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl?

Using injuries as an excuse is fucking shameful, I would expect nothing more from Steeler fans, though.

Yeah, I remember when the Packers best player on offense missed the game due to injury.
