just realized that if the lions win then the giants/falcons will come to frisco on a short week (we are the early game next saturday).

GO LIONS!!! MATT STAFFORD MVP, CALVIN BEST WR SINCE DON HUTSON, JIM SCHWARTZ WITH AN ABOVE AVERAGE HAND SHAKE!

My friend just posted this.

they'll just switch the stickers over to the other team after tomorrow

its alright though, all citizens of new jersey already carry both

They are also interviewing some TEN front office people as well. Their front office interview requests are all over the place, and Sarkasian turned down a coaching interview. So I think Fisher will be the guy, but really have no idea where they go for GM. Horton is obviously a possible Rooney Rule hire, or they consider him a potential fall back if Fisher goes to MIA. I expect Fisher to be making like $8 million/yr with at least 6 years, whereas a coordinator hire will make $3 or $4 million

It's my understanding that personnel contracts run through after the draft. Keim couldn't come over until May.

I also agree that the NFCW is tougher than the AFCE. Both the Bills and Dolphins seem to be stuck with some bad organizational issues, while everyone besides the Rams look on the upswing in the NFCW

Yeah, I figured Horton was safe for this year but it's disconcerting that people are already after him. I'd sure love to have him groom our Defense for years to come, a pipe dream. Have to hope he grooms the next guy in line, Townsend? To maintain the system before he eventually goes. That would be great if we have Keim for at least another draft, did such a fantastic job last time and some key pieces the year before.

NFC West definitely isn't the worst division any longer but it will take another season for people to quit making jokes and pay some respect. Niners turned it around with good coaching and the Cards are not a bad team anymore. You guys don't realize how close we were to 12 wins. If our defense had most of the playbook down earlier in the season, we'd have easily hit 12 wins. BARELY lost to the Skins and SEA in weeks 2 and 3 when we were complete shit and we were ahead of the Giants all game, would have held them off easily with the current defense. Shit all over Baltimore and then completely fell apart at the end, again, wouldn't have happened with current defense. We will do much better next season. Seattle also turned things around and should do better going forth. Lynch was beasting and their defense isn't too bad either.

I will place in the caveat that our schedules are worse next year. NFC North and East on the plate with Cards and Niners facing Saints and Falcons respectively rather than Bucs and Panthers and Cards play Packers and Patriots on the road. If we do well, that will just emphasize that we are a good team otherwise you can be the 2011 Bucs :| I don't see that happening, our defense will be beast. At least the Jets aren't so scary anymore.

Is Cam Newton a Suns fan? He came to the game tonight with Kerry Rhodes but would he bother buying Suns merch for just viewing one game if he wasn't a fan?

What say you, PantherGaf?

Imagine every single game Joe Buck and Troy Aikman call. Then imagine Gus in there instead.

Come the fuck on, son.

that's an amazingly low bar (though i suspect given their 'preferences' that packers fans prefer Buck/Aikman). sure, i'm not too pleased that joe buck was present to snooze through xlii, but when it comes to your average run of the mill game, they are both shit, just in different ways.

Hmm. Not nervous about tomorrow yet. I don't even know what to think. Got no idea how tomorrow is going to go.

If the Texans lose, I just hope they fall giving it their best shot, which means running the hell out of Foster and Tate. I don't think I could handle another Kubiak conservative short passing game loss.

All Houston has to do is run the ball 60% of the time. Bengals gave up 221 yards rushing to the Ravens. And cover AJ Green like he's the only receiver.

Mike Tice as Chicago's New Offensive Coordinator... FUCKING LOL

If you though Jay Cutler getting Upset @ Martz for all those sacks because of the plays he ran, GOD SPEED Cutler's Knees

Hello, nfl-gaf! I just started watching the nfl the other week there. I was reading that thread about the English guy who defected from watching football in England to your version. Being from Scotland myself, it's not a sport that gets a lot (read: any) coverage over here.

Anyhoo, the first couple of games I've seen have been pretty good. The very first one I saw was the Arizona cardinals game where they came back from behind to win againt the 49ers. I also watched the 2009 superbowl with the Arizona cardinals where they lost by a whisker, and that big dude from the other side caught the ball in his own end zone and ran all the way to the other end and had to get an oxygen mask afterwards. Larry Fitzgerald seems to be a very good player. He hardly got the ball at all in that superbowl game, but when he did he was off like a scalded cat, and got 2 or 3 touchdowns.

It seems this is a fairly interesting time to be getting into the sport, since it's the last 16 knockout stage before the superbowl, as far as I can tell.

So anyway, /subscribed to this thread, hopefully this initial interest I have here will stick with me as it seems a sport with a huge amount of depth to it, probably not something you could get bored of in a hurry.

Welcome, fellow Euro-fan! I'm sure you'll love it.

There is no way hes paying for the stuff. It's obviously worth it for the Suns to give him free merchandise to wear while he's at courtside.

Finally my work week is over and its time to watch the playoffs.
Im excited, but actually, considering what the Lions have been through, if they win a playoff game after so many years off of our back, well I wouldnt be too upset. My team reached the top. I got to feel that. I got to experience that first hand, in my lifetime, and when I was fully aware of it. I felt how special it is. So if it comes down to the Lions winning this game, well they deserve it. That team has worked its ass off to get where it is and guys like Raiola and Megatron totally fucking deserve this. However, I will be rooting against them obviously, and I wish I didnt have to. I wish they could be playing the fucking Falcons or something. Heres to a good game Lions fans. I'm not rooting for you in this game, but if you get passed us I will back you through the playoffs, because I think you deserve it.

Go Texans! The city could use a win. Texans fans here have lost their minds a bit but are generally good folk (besides captive)

-still a Rams fan

Wes!

Who are we (Browns) taking with the #4 pick? I have no clue about the college ranks. I've just heard about Trent Richardson and this RGIII guy.

Heckert said "messing up the #4 pick is going to be hard" implying that he'd be quite happy taking one of the consensus top players who falls that far (suggesting either WR Blackmon, CB Claiborne or QB RG3). He's also let it known it's going to be an offensive driven draft but wont hesitate from taking a top defensive player.

I think they'll "let the draft come to them." A team could easily trade with the Rams or Vikings in front of us to take RG3. In which case I think we'll probably take Blackmon.
If RG3 is there at 4 it's going to be a tough decision. If they're sold on him, they think he can transition to playing under centre and adapting to learning a WCO, they'll pick him but you better believe Heckert would love to trade down himself. Luck and RG3 are the only clear consensus first round QB picks this year (before the combine at least) so he's going to be worth a lot.

Whilst Richardson is very good, and would be a very good fit in the WCO, taking him at #4 is too high for a RB (at least, that's my understanding of the value of that position in the draft these days).

My current thinking is:

If RG3 is gone they will take Blackmon (whoever didn't do the trade between the Vikings and Rams are going to pick the left tackle Kalil).
If RG3 is there at #4, Heckert will trade down, pick up another second round this year and a first round next year and spend a later choice on another developmental QB. Maybe Tannehill or Osweiler.

I think they're waiting to decide on RG3. See how tall he actually measures at at the combine, how he interviews etc... We'll get more hints over the next few months.

Corran and I are hoping for the chance at a humiliating avatar bet. That would just be step one...

Can't wait to watch the first lions playoff game since I was in middle school!

Hopefully it's a fun entreating game. I have bunch of people coming over. Will try to keep up with Gaf.

Welcome :) There's actually 12 teams in the playoffs, but yes, it can get pretty exciting. Are there any other questions you've got about anything? I think NFLGaf would be happy to help answer them.

Welcome!

Anyone notice how Atlanta is becoming this popular upset pick? Even Charles Barkley picked Atlanta to beat the Giants.

Guess what? It won't happen.

Are you arguing that because everybody is picking it that it won't happen? That obviously has no relevance. If there is an upset to be had that is definitely the most likely of them all, there is a reason everybody is picking it after all.

Nah I just think the Giants are gonna roll the Falcons. They have more impressive wins and more wins vs. tougher opponents compared to the Falcons' cupcake schedule. Denver also beats Pittsburgh. New Orleans beats San Fran next week.

How is Atlanta winning an "upset"?
Because Giants won the Superbowl in 2007? Because they are playing the game in New Jersey?

The teams seem tightly matched to me.

In my opinion, I think it is the least likely upset. Giants are very healthy, coming off a good win, and it seems like everyone is on board. I'm not underestimating the weapons that Atlanta brings, but I think that the defensive line ends up getting at Ryan and disrupting the offense/shutting it down. Plus they'll be playing hard in memory of FRANKMAN!!!

January 07, 2012: Tomorrow's NY Giants-Atlanta Falcons playoff game was going to be GOOD. Now it's going to be REAL GOOD!!

The feud just got personal!!! MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a female ACQUAINTANCE of video model Lastarya - who was the LONGTIME GIRLFRIEND of Falcons STAR Defensive End Ray Edwards. Well we learned EXCLUSIVELY that Ray and Lastarya BROKE UP earlier this week.

What happened? Well it's not clear. But the STREETS are saying that he broke into her PHONE . . . and saw that she was sending very INAPPROPRIATE direct messages to the Giants STAR RECEIVER Victor Cruz!!!

There is no way the Broncos are more likely to beat the Steelers.

And the Giants are going to lay down in shame because Frankman got banned for posting pirated Sailor Moon links.

Adam Schefter just said that Josh McDaniels will join the Patriots' coaching staff for the playoffs immediately.
