Which Pride and Prejudice?

And does Princess Bride count as a chick-flick? If so that's hands down the best.

If it does, then that's my vote. Along with The Nightmare Before Christmas, it's my favorite movie. Probably seen it a couple hundred times.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was actually pretty romantic, now that I think about it.

Emo? Challenge accepted.

Fake-Edit: Oh well, that's the most emo look I could achieve in a few minutes ;( Looks more like someone on the verge of becoming a mass-murderer, though. But I guess that's pretty much the same as being emo.

You need some black eye make-up.

What's everyone's favorite romance/chick flick? ;D

Mine is Pride and Prejudice <3~~

I really love the book, but I only think the movie is okay (if we're talking about the same version. Keira Knightley?)

Otherwise, um... I don't watch many movies so I can't think of any blatant romance movies that I've enjoyed. I typically prefer comedy or cartoons I guess.

Looking through a list, I really liked Amélie. Oh, of course, can't forget The Princess Bride! Classic.

Hmm... I guess that's it.

Needs more swoop.

I haven't seen the movie but I hated the book. I couldn't understand Elizabeth at all.

Amelie is pretty cute.

I tend to become way more cuddly and affectionate when I'm drunk. I have some friends who are sad drunks. Nothing more awkward than trying to get a drunk person to stop crying.

I hate when that happen, I really suck at comforting people when they cry and it's just worse when I'm drunk... I'm more of a happy drunk myself, except the rare time when sometimes isn't working in my life and I empty out all my feelings to my friends then regret it the next day (thank god that only happened twice so far).

I got tons of drunk stories but some of them are way too embarassing >.>

I don't know if this is how you feel about her, but I've noticed a lot of people feel that once she realized how truly rich Darcy is, she decided to marry him, and that makes them hate her. But the way I feel about it is that she began to change her mind before that when she realized he wasn't all she thought he was. During a time when women in her position couldn't afford to wait around for someone she respected, she stood her ground. I rather like that about her.

You hatin' on Jane Austen? :(

Nah I get it if her humor isn't your cup of tea I could see her books wouldn't be that enjoyable.

I liked Elizabeth as well - and well, she's not supposed to be perfect. She's just as much of an asshole as Darcy is really. But yeah I don't think you're ever supposed to thinks she married him after she realized how much money he had. I think that's why I like Jane Austen so much. Her heroines are usually extremely flawed. Probably why I liked Emma so much.

It wasn't that she realized he had money. To me it was more like, "Oh, you're not the total tool I thought you were? I guess I'll love and marry you!" I really didn't get the feeling that she had been on the edge about him. It just seemed like she did a complete 180 about him in a single moment. It just bothered me when she's supposed to be the "smart, sensible" female in the book and she makes such a shallow, rash decision.

I really dislike most period romances, though.

My favorite chick flick is probably The Princess Bride, Titanic, or Legends of the Fall.

Someone said Amelie above, but I'd say Delicatessan is the better romance.

I can understand that. I think there is definitely a "rushed" feeling to marriages back then, not just with this book. Back then relationships didn't stress as much "getting to know each other" as maybe they do now. Actually it's why I rage at fairy tales these days. In comparison Elizabeth had gobs of time to make a rational decision. Fairy tales are all, "I JUST SAW YOU BUT WE'RE GONNA GET MARRIED RIGHT NOW IT'S BABY MAKING TIME."

The 2005 movie, I hear the TV series was better though ;o (with Colin Firth)

Pride and Prejudice was a good book.
Most adaptations are horrible.

Yeah I reaalllyy want to read the book. But I loved the movie :( I don't know why but I thought it was cute haha

Yeah that version. I really loved Amélie ;D very cute movie, it's one of my favorites

I think a lot of people get the idea that she made the switch because of the line "I could have been the mistress of all this" when she visits his estate. Actually I didn't like that line because it seems so out of character for her. But I guess it was just the times, a woman had to keep a least some thought on money since she couldn't make any of her own.

Yeah that's what I heard. I really liked the movie adaption though so I'm afraid of watching the TV series :(

Keira Knightly version is still good, but the A&E/BBC co production with Colin Firth is the most accurate. And it is after that you will see why most women fantasize about Colin Firth.

Ommg really, my first movie with him was Girl with a Pearl Earing and he was such a creeper XD But yeah, I could see how most girls would. It's Matthew Macfadyen with me right now LOL

Colin Firth version is the superior version. Still one of the best literary adaptations made.

And for the best chick flick (I feel bad calling this film that) is this:

I've always kind of wanted to do the boombox outside a girl's window thing.

I enjoy fairy tales in the same way I enjoy mythology. If you start ascribing real psychological motives to the characters it makes no sense. Just think about the characters as simpletons who are ruled by emotions and lust.

..and those are the first 2 pages -.-

I guess I quit as long as I still can.
I envy you! :p

So I felt kinda bad since there were many people missing from the other collage. I couldn't just cherry pick those who took the time to look and then say 'I'm not there' and include them only. I had to go through the thread and DL everyone's RP avatars, which I did, so now i'm 99.9999∞% sure I left no one out...
even gaffers i hate lol
-BUT, you can check yourself, just DL this and locate your name;
i'll get it uploaded in a sec :d

(though if someone has a RL av and never bothered to post in this thread.... errr, not mah problem!)

I'm pretty sure I have all your avatars and names and spellings memorized by heart, lol... turned up to be 570+ individual RP avs. :O By now I probably know you more than you know yourself.

I try to, but it depends on the fairy tale.

Speaking of fairy tales, I played as Rapunzel in 4th grade for a play. I had a loooooong yarn braid I stuck to my head (and I kept that thing for quite awhile too.) I remember absolutely all the boys didn't want to be my prince :< The boy I had a crush on ended up being the prince but he was rather unhappy about it.

Oh yeah, if we can count cartoons for favorite romance movie, then Beauty and the Beast (Disney version of course) would have to be my all time favorite.

Do you suffer from Celebrity Look-Alike Disease?

Come to think of it, maybe.

Another GF, after college, thought I looked like Casey Affleck. I didn't really know what he looked like at the time, but she grew up with him, so I deferred to her knowledge base.

TBH, I wasn't really thrilled with the comparison to Lloyd Dobbler.

EDIT - The best, though, was being called 'Heath' because of a passing resemblance to the KNIGHT'S TALE poster. I had a tan and frosted tips. Shameful days.

Poor Rupunzel. I'd climb your hair.

Disney version of Sleeping Beauty was also pretty romantic.

Cinderella was a gold-digging bitch, though.

The count has been reminding gaffers of celebs throughout this thread.

Beauty and the Beast is second only to The Lion King for me. Those two movies are so far ahead of the rest of Disney's output imo.

Hahaha, pretty much. Although with both movies the romantic couples were both so dull I couldn't get into the romance. Sleeping Beauty is great but more for the main villain and supporting characters.

My wife has described me as Lloyd Dobler. Just a little more bitter, but still Lloyd. And funny enough, she is a lot like Diane and our relationship is like theirs. She's the brain and soon to get her PhD, while I was really into martial arts and wanting to teach them eventually. So Lloyd's rant at the dinner table is much like me. Down to the nervous talking thing.

When I taught Literature at a summer camp, I would always tell the teenage girls that they really shouldn't be looking to Romeo & Juliet as an example of an ideal love story.

When they'd ask what is a good example of a love story, I always answered "The Simpsons."

Which is true. I dedicated a whole class to explain why once.
