When I taught Literature at a summer camp, I would always tell the teenage girls that they really shouldn't be looking to Romeo & Juliet as an example of an ideal love story.

When they'd ask what is a good example of a love story, I always answered "The Simpsons."

Which is true. I dedicated a whole class to explain why once.
I get the Romeo and Juliet part. One of the most ludicrously misused examples of a "love story" out there. But why The Simpsons?

Romeo and Juliet is a love story in the same way that Jersey Shore is a love story.

I've never been able to stand Romeo & Juliet, personally. It's all a bit over-dramatic to me. It's the same reason why I couldn't like Jane Eyre, really. People doing foolishly over-dramatic things.

Some of the best romances to me are ones where the couple have known each other for quite some time. It feels much more satisfying when they finally get together.

I can see why you'd say The Simpsons. It has to be love.

We can at least agree that Mulan is awesome, right?

Mulan kicks ass.

Because it's an example of what love actually is. It's not a first-sight, one-and-done, we'll never have fights not based on comedic understandings kind of thing.

Sometimes you don't realize the person you're meant to be with has been someone who doesn't meet all your fantasy ideals, like Homer and Marge did. She thought he was sweet and wasn't good enough, but it was through suffering and doing whatever he could to make her happy (even if it was with Artie) that she realized she actually loved Homer.

No matter how many fights they have, they find a way to compromise and eventually come to an understanding. Obviously a lot of what happens is comedy, but they work out their problems, get help when they need it, and at the end of the day always remember who makes them happiest.

One example is how Marge felt Homer's plan of becoming morbidly obese. Comedy! But at the end, Homer looks at his family and how it's affecting the people he loves and asks Mr. Burns to make him thin again.

George Bush Sr. once gave a speech about how American families should be more like the Cleavers and less like The Simpsons. I think it's the opposite.

Is it Marge + Homer you're talking about for the love angle on The Simpsons? I can see that.

Aaaaand you answer above. I agree.

Mulan is tied with Hunchback of Notre Dame and Lilo & Stitch as my favorite Disney movies.

Lilo & Stitch is actually super depressing if you don't watch the funny bits. :( I swear it's only a comedy because otherwise I can hardly make it through the film. Although having a very similar relationship with my sister as the one in the film might be the cause of that.

Yeah, I could never like Jane Eyre or any of the Bronte sisters' work really. But then they cast Michael Fassbender as Mr. Rochester so now I'm going to have to watch the damn movie.

I'd like to go on record as saying that Wuthering Heights is probably the worst thing ever.

Ever.
If anyone ever tells you this novel is a love story, just run. Which actually makes it rather perfect that the writer of Twilight said it was Bella's favorite book... sometimes I think Stephanie Meyer might just be the world's greatest troll. I have to think that because otherwise it's just too damn depressing.

God that's a fucked up book. But my dislike of it has more to do with what it's turned into in the public eye rather than the actual novel itself. Emily Bronte isn't a terrible stylist and I get what she was trying to do but the end result just wasn't enjoyable. At all.

My go-to drinking songs are

- Twist & Shout
- Roxanne
- Sweet Caroline
Ha, that's a great!

I don't really drink unless I'm offered wine and got to be polite, but I absolutely love singing with drunk people.

You're crazy sentry! Lol.
I know

can you spot yourself? :D

Mulan would have been a much better film without the musical numbers. That is the only big Disney movie I will say that with. The drama and everything is handled so well in it, just to have it sputter out when a song starts.

The part at the end when the Emperor bows before her along with everyone else gets me choked up each time though.

Nope. Cannot spot myself in it.
Same. I recognized a ton of posters, which is awesome, but couldn't see myself.
Haha, you're both definitely in there, it's alphabetical so try to spot others you recognize with similar names. :p

Ho. Ly. Crap. That's awesome.
Pretty sure I saw my current one. That's awesome! Great work, Sentry!
Thanks! :)

Just a teaser for the collage basically, which will have every
570+
one in it. Just trying to give some people time though in case they want to join up and not miss being a part of something awesome! :p

Two of the songs in the movie are two of my favorite Disney songs ever.

Speaking of Disney songs, have you guys seen this piece of craziness?

Nick Pitera's "One Man Disney Movie"

wow sentry, that is awesome. how long did it take? and what images make the composite? not the avatars surely?

anyone get a count of how many of us are participating?

Whaaaaaat?! Mulan has some great songs.

I'll let you know if I spotted myself after I finish my seizure.
You're pic gave me a seizure. :p I can spot it every time. :lol

Really? Perhaps it was like this for one, maybe two of the musicals, but tbh I felt Mulan, unlike most other classic Disney flicks, handled the musical scenes excellently in a way that felt natural.

Maybe that's just me though (since i've seen it a thousand times lol).

Wasn't a huge Mulan fan. I guess it was better than Hercules or Pocahontas though. Fuck, Pocahontas was a combo-breaker. The last few films before that had been incredible.

Answered your own question there. :p Took a good long while compiling all the avatars from participants in this thread. Pancakes uploaded a packet of all the avs he had compiled earlier, which is what I made those collages a few pages back out of, but there were duplicates, people missing, and avatars that weren't real pics included. So I did it all over, lol.

All the avs i've compiled, minus the variants for certain female characters
:p
comes up to around 570 people or so.

I'm going to admit, I REALLY like Colors of the Wind. I haaaate the rest of the movie though.

Damnit Skyrim! I'm sneaking while using an invisibility potion while the guy is ASLEEP and yet I STILL can't pickpocket him. What's a girl have to do?

Answer: Kill him. I hate Farengar anyway, though I didn't necessarily want him dead. Game left me no choice though.

I stopped caring about disney movies after the Emperor's New Groove. After that all went to shit. Hercules was fun, Aladding is my fave Disney movie, Lion King follows it, Beauty and the Beast was just strange and cool at the same time...

damn Disney sucks now.

Does the headbucket trick work with pickpocketing?

The muses were the most entertaining part of Hercules, along with Hades. He's probably one of my favorite disney villains.
The muses had the best songs - they are by far the most fun Disney songs to sing.

PhoncipleBone said:
The songs themselves are good, but they just took me out of the film itself. It is weird, as it is the only major Disney film where I feel that way.
The only time the songs take me out of the film is when I realize that they're completely absent in the second half of the film.

Nah man Lilo & Stitch came after Emperor's New Groove and it's one of the best.

And the new movies are just as visually stunning as anything they've released before. Princess and the Frog, even if you don't enjoy the story, is absolutely gorgeous to look at.

Pocahantas was bad.

Hercules...CG monster was awful, I didn't like the muse songs, but other than that, I liked it.
Haven't seen Pocahantas in FOREVER, but just sw Hercules (or bits of it) the other day and I still love the hell out of it. The CG was kinda bad, but not unbearable. Didn't pay attention to the musicals though.

The story and score is where it's at, the ending is fucking brilliant and ever since I was a child i've had those scenes ingrained into my brain. It is hard trying to explain the whole 'gods' thing to kids though, lol.

THIS. Apart from maybe the witch in snow white, Hades is the villain from Disney movies that has left the biggest imprint/memory on me. He's evil in a fun way, though, the performance is awesome to watch.

haha, I added an emoticon to my original post in case I came off kinda catty. I think I'm like 3 pics before the end of the cycle.
Nah what you meant, lol. Yeah probably though, since it's alphabetical. :P
