Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

I feel like a lot of the Dota/HoN/LoL or any esport gaming community pubs have never played a real-life team sport before competitively.

It's the anonymity, doesn't matter if you play sports for a living when you can call people out without any penalty. It doesn't work face to face, even at LANs progamers seem to behave. Though it's quite possible the ragers never make it to that level in the first place.

Also, in defense of the ragers (not sure why I'm doing this) the difference between DotA and sports is that doing poorly in popular sports doesn't directly strengthen the opponent's position in the game while damaging your own, which just about translates to exponentially reducing your team's competitiveness within the context of the game you're in.

Nah, I don't believe that. If you don't pass and miss a shot like in my example you're still strengthening opponent as the score was not skewed. Make a dumb own-goal in soccer, I'd say that is strengthening the opponent. Miss an easy tackle in football and the dude runs for a touchdown...etc Now your coach may chew your ass out for this...but your teammates smack your shoulder pads and say don't sweat it. Meanwhile, in esports land, your teammates are whiney bitches about it.

There's a world of difference between random teammates in a public, and teammates when your actually playing on a team. Even when your playing with friends.

I don't know when the last time this was brought up, but goddamn, we need a forfeit feature. Guess what I don't want to waste another 40 minutes getting my ass handed to me and having no fun because my team is full of a bunch of fucktards. I know the argument is that it's suppose to make people try harder and a bunch of other bullshit. Guess what though, it's a fucking pub match.

I don't see the point in these matches if they're just gonna be 1 sided blood baths where no one helps the noobs like me get better.

This is my biggest issue with in-house matches. At least with HoN we can see each others stats and MMR/PSR to get an indication of someone's skill level and balace teams accordingly. DOTA 2 has no visible stats.

From my 7 DOTA 2 or so in house matches its all being terribly one sided. Coupled with the ragers over the mics, its enough for me to stay away.

I take note of usernames before entering an IH room to see if any of the offenders are in before playing. People seem to forget that these are ment to be friendly matches and played for fun.

What! having poor defenders or keepers that give away goals for free is strengthening the opponent as you'd have to climb a mountain to get back in the game but morale is important in sports and you want the players to play for the team instead of demoralizing them.

Internet anonymity. The shit people say would usual get them beatup in real life

It's people E-reputation at stake!

Yuuuuurp. I've had this both ways today. People singing on mics and throwing games then I ended up having a dog shit start. Knowing full well I'd just handed the game to them tied in a nice pink ribbon after feeding their carry. Can I apologise and forfeit the game though? Can I fuck. I have to sit there and take a tonne of verbal abuse which only serves to make me INCREDIBLY angry and salty.

I think it's the lack of consequences.

In real life sports, if you piss off everyone you play with, then you'll have no one else left to play unless there's like, a bunch of local sports groups near you, and this is assuming your reputation doesn't spread.

In DOTA, even if you rage at a bunch of people, you can just queue up to get another group of strangers. The consequences of raging are almost nonexistent, hopefully Valve will have stricter moderation once DOTA "launches".

Valve have been applying kid gloves to even the worst ragers. You truly have to be someone special to earn a ban it appears.

just pull a kappy and bail out early!

well in sports, when you score a goal or touchdown, your opponent doesn't suddenly get an extra player to use against you for doing so. You lose time farming and getting exp when you're dead, and your opponent gets the time to farm and get exp, plus the bonus gold and exp from killing you. If you score 3 touchdowns in a row against someone, their ability to score a touchdown isn't hindered besides mentally.. But if you score 5 kills on someone, their ability to score a kill on you is reduced with each death. I can kinda see what he means, there is a profound snowball effect not present in other sports.

lol, I never rage.

Those were some terrible picks (ES first ban), terrible lanes (take SK but not against Brood), and then Warlock going mid as no one else wanted to.

They could have just maxed out breath on DK and go soul ring on him to stop me, no need for SK then and better farm on DK if I get too greedy with my spiders.

Most pleasant?

Fig yusp!

because he has one of the highest level 1 base damages in the game. He is pretty fun to play, especially backtracking big nukes.
Ah, that definitely makes sense. Twas my first game with him to my knowledge, but the last hits came so easily and I missed few of the ones I went for.

I always seem to end up getting forced into the initiator role in matchmaking, and usually I go with Tidehunter for that. I just had a game with me as Tidehunter, and the other four on my team were Witch Doctor, Viper, Razor, and Anti-Mage. Viper had a Russian name, and barely spoke the whole match. Razor and AM were in a party together and were set on going bottom at the beginning together, but Viper was arguing with them and just stayed down there, making it 3 bottom and 2 top (Tidehunter and especially Witch Doctor are not suited for mid). I almost had to go mid but then Razor went to mid and suddenly VIPER FOLLOWED HIM THERE! Viper and AM occasionally spoke Russian but they were speaking English most of the time. WD didn't talk much, and I don't think he got my message asking him to buy wards until the umpteenth time I asked him.

Then Razor left later on, which kind of sucked. The game was actually a pretty decent game, but we still lost it.

- Randomed Magina, first pick
- Team choosing Alchemist, Riki, Mirana and Dark Seer
- Riki and Alchemist forcing me to go top
- Dark Seer ain't jungling
- They feed and leave
- Checking their steam accounts
- Surprise-surprise, it's Russian premade

I don't understand why these russian trolls even click on US Match making. There is a EU server ffs.

Russian players are the new Brazilian trolls.

Played some inhouses tonight, got fed up by the team in both games, despite a terrible start. I really need to play against better people.

It's ok, you had a tough match-up against Pudge mid with Tinker, so it's understandable you wouldn't win that lane, and I don't think you did that bad with Viper except that one fight at bot lane with the courier. You pulled yourself out the dumpster in both games, so it evened out.

Your still the KS king though

For those of you that have played it, how is the Monk play looking? I'm really looking forward to playing with the Monk. Seems like my type of character!
