College Football 2011-2012 Bowls: Every Week is the Playoffs

After thinking about it i changed my mind from a 8-team playoff to a 5 team system.

Here were the BCS top-5 at end of the regular season:

1 LSU 1.0000
2 Alabama .9419
3 Oklahoma State .9333
4 Stanford .8476
5 Oregon .7901

The #1 team should get the auto bid for the championship game and the other 4 teams battle it out in the playoffs. Outside of those five i don't think any other team even deserved a shot.

That would have worked this season, but teams like Wisconsin and Boise were deserving of a shot as well, IMO.

An 8-team playoff is by far the best solution IMO. A plus-one is a good start, which will eventually make these schools realize how much money there is to be made from a playoff.

I don't think you are going to need any help from me.

*sob* IT'S TRUE!

I wonder if I'll still be on GAF by the time I develop delusional pride and beleif in my conference/team.

I mean, delusional loyalty is a gateway drug, right?

Not saying I disagree, but what would be the main advantage over a 4 team playoff where everyone plays? Just that the top 5 playing sounds better than top 4? Or because the #1 team gets the bye and has a little less pressure?

I just think the #1 team deserves some type of advantage for being ranked #1.

I was actually going to give Bama a little bit of credit in that they made no momentum changing mistakes. They avoided Claiborne all night. No turnovers. They obviously destroyed everything that LSU tried to do.

On the other hand, LSU sucked. Jefferson was pathetic. Wonder if he pulled some Garcia-esque activities the previous night.

Hope this proves that, yes, The Honey Badger is a horrible Coverage Defensive Back. He tackles well, has great skills at stripping the ball, and is a dangerous return man.

But was beaten multiple times by Hanks and Norwood. The 2nd WR and maybe the 5th or 6th WR. Just as he was in the 1st game.

I think that was known. He excels though when QB's are under pressure and make bad throws. McCarron was pressured some but, to his credit, he made throws where only his receiver had a chance at it. So anyway, Alabama made no mistakes and Saban gameplanned perfectly for their offense, and Bama's defense didn't make mistakes. And LSU had no answers at halftime. They've been a pretty bad offense all year, but their special teams and defense kept them undefeated until last night.

1 team showed up. The abysmal part of the game was all LSU.

I would say 1.5 teams showed up. I don't think LSU defense was the problem, they were just gassed by the 2nd half. The only thing they could have done better was cause a turnover.

I think what fucked them was Les Miles insisting that his offensive plan was going to work in spite of all evidence deep into the 3rd quarter. It was clear to anyone even watching as little as I was that Jefferson wasn't going to do anything, and that Alabama was not getting fooled by the option. He should have put Lee in, and chunked it down the field a couple times. Or something.

I can't imagine they were even keeping Bama's secondary honest with only 17 pass attempts.

Also, was the middle ever open for 5 yard check down pass on the option plays? I can't imagine the effectiveness of the defense was sacrificing that middle to cover the option.

Since there's no offseason thread, I'll just go ahead and post it. Obviously nothing's confirmed yet, but it's worth relaying along in case people missed it.

Also, Jordan Jenkins surprised a lot of people and picked UGA last night right before the game. Not sure if that was mentioned, but he was the #1 undecided recruit in Georgia, so it's a good thing for Grantham to attract him to the program even with Georgia being a somewhat latecomer to the party. Also, Keith Marshall, John Theus, and QB Faton Bauta started classes yesterday and were part of their first team meeting. Faton Bauta is an interesting 3 star QB recruit out of FL. He's a dual threat guy, 6'3", 225 pounds and runs a 4.54 40. The comparisons he gets are to Tebow. Who knows if he'll play at Georgia, they would have to change a lot of things if they want to use that dual threat potential.. Or if he could even beat out the supposedly better QB's ahead of him once Murray's gone.

Grantham is legit.

Cyan - Are you ok?

I think you are melting down due to the loss suffered by your beloved Tigers.

Why can't you guys understand that LSU's offense is like an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10? That one quarterback is basically Robert Griffin and the other one is Matt Barkley! The LSU offense is just as good as Oregon's or Stanford's or Okie State's! It's just that LSU has to play lights-out defenses all the time, the kind that cause you to commit dumb penalties and make shitty throws and run a moronic, conservative game plan that you never adjust!

LSU's offense is 8 out of 10. It's just that Bama's defense is like 100 out of 10.

Final defensive rankings: http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2011&rpt=IA_teamtotdef&site=org&div=IA&dest=O

Look at the difference in yards per play and yards per game between Alabama and... well, everyone else.

#1 Bama: 3.32 yards/play, 183.62 yards/game
#2 LSU: 4.08 yards/play, 261.50 yards/game

LSU played better offensive teams than did Alabama, so that skews it a bit, but it's still a gigantic margin. Yeesh.

Wow. What other team can put in their 2nd and 3rd team across offense or defense and have no dropoffs in performance? Main thing I'd like to have on Bama's team is their offensive line.. And then their whole defense.

Heard on the radio, that this is the largest separation between #1 and #2 on record.

No other defense has finished below 200 YPG, in the last 5 years, looking at cfbstats.com

Hoping this carries over to next season since we're losing just about the whole starting defense.

Bama is losing a lot, but I think the people waiting to take over as "starters" are just as good. You guys won't be the favorite in the west because of everyone leaving, but could conceivably compete for it if I'm right.

Won't be the favorite as LSU brings alot back, most of all brings back neither of their QB's.

Alabama will lose alot of experience, but talent alone, won't lose much. Probably the worst being Kirkpatrick. Don't know if we have another 6'3" CB to take his place. Good at Safety for years, if we keep Collins. Him plus HaHa and if Lester comes back for 1 more year. Hope this JUCO CB fills in along with Millner.

LB, alot of experience is gone with Hightower (unless he wants to play another year), Upshaw, and Jerrell Harris. But since Saban has recruited a 1-9-1 Defense, there's alot of talent in the LB for years to come.

As long as Alabama finds another big NT to replace Chapmen, most of the D-Line comes back.

New blood at RB and WR will be needed.

YES, the Trophy will not be doing a Walmart Tour!!!!!!!

It's the Kroger, Academy Sports, and Publix Tour!!!!

USC alum. I think they have a building named after him on the campus.

USC School of Cinematic Arts was housed in the George Lucas Instructional Building.

I think EA has a building there too.

What an awful, awful game. JJ picked the worst time to have the probably worst performance of his career.

I really liked the first one and appreciate defensive battles way more than whatever was going on in that Baylor game But this was horrendous to watch for a neutral fan.

We have the new George Lucas Building:

http://cinema.usc.edu/facilities/complex.cfm

Which if you believe the rumors was built just so George could demolish the building that previously had his ex-wife's name on it.

EA does not, to my knowledge, own any buildings on campus. They do put on a lot of events and provide funding to the Game dev programs however.

Alabama allowed 12 TD's all year? Geez

In other news, Florida is #8, allowing just under 300 yards/game.

Ok St. is 107th, allowing 456.77 yards/game. Baylor went 10-3 with the 116th ranked defense, allowing 488.46 yards/game. Kansas is dead last, allowing 516.42 yards/game.

1) The Total Defense stat is often highly misleading, especially given the diversity in style of play among different teams.

2) OSU's defensive rankings are much more understandable if you realize that they played an ungodly number of minutes this year compared to teams like Bama (due to our style of offense), and that many of the yards against our D were against the second-team D in garbage time.

While a lot of this is true, keep in mind that Bama plays their second team interchangably with their "starters" and there is no drop off in performance.

Oh man, you need to deal with it dude.

LSU lost. I'm sorry, but they lost. They lost because their offense was worse than an offense helmed by a Cal QB not named Aaron Rodgers under the tutelage of Jeff Tedford. Also: There isn't Jasper coming down the pipeline anytime soon to save them.

Both these offenses are built upon winning the line and running the ball.... against every other team in the country they could have run at will which opens up their passing game. The difference is alabama has a defensive line to match lsu's offensive line and they did not get any sort of a push.

It also goes back to coaching.... saban was more willing to try something different with the passing game but he had to because he lost the first one. I think miles was too hardheaded to change because he won the first meeting and assumed a big turnover or something would happen.

The Lucas and Spielberg buildings are Very Nice.

And yeah, EA doesn't have a building. They offered a bunch of funding for the Interactive Media program, which was operating largely out of the Zemeckis building at the time.

No, you don't understand. Bama has a defense so powerful, it makes the teams they play worse even when they're not playing Bama. (Gondo 2012)

Aaron Rodgers isn't even a superior SEC-style game management quarterback, he's one of those throwy guys. If he was out there last night, he would've gotten sacked five times and threw ten INTs. That's how good Bama's defense is. 100/10.

1) I agree. Look how high half of the SEC is. It's impossible to tell what that means from just the rankings alone.

2) Definitely. This is why things like "great Team A let crappy team B put on more points than pretty good team C" don't work. Team B probably found it easy to get a couple touchdowns on Team A's walkons, while Team C didn't have that luxury.

It really is a damn shame Alabama and Ok. St. couldn't have played somehow.

Looks like Knile Davis will be back for Arkansas next year after all. We have a great team coming back. I think there's a good chance that we'll make a BCS game again, especially since we have Alabama and LSU at home this time. If we can win at least one of those games and "take care of business", we'll come out as a 1 or 2 loss team.

Yeah, Arky should be pretty good. You have to travel to USCe. That one as of now I see as a tossup. A lot can change between now and then though.

What is this Red Tails i'm hearing all about?

Preferably told to me in paid spokes persons or viral marketing.

Its the thing you watch while having a real good time under an over pass, and telling women that its not for them. We're eating 12 tacos and some fried wings.

EDIT: I think 90% of the commercials I watch are now because of football.

Pitbull is important, but of course not the primary reason you're having a real good time at the party underneath the overpass.

Its the giant ass speakers in the van blasting Pitbull that makes it a real good time.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold the fuck up.

Am I mistaken, or did this post not reference the 23 delicious flavors of an ice-cold Dr. Pepper?

I was working around that ;)

It contains the line "HOW YOU LIKE THAT, MR. HITLER!"

I could hear that line over and over again through my headphones. I left my tv on just loud enough to bleed Brent in case something exciting happened (HA!), so thats about all I heard last night.
