Swiss cheese is best.

Tomatoes are great. I blame fast food for making people not like tomatoes.

Vegetables must be crunchy rather than mushy, especially potatoes. Unless it's mashed potatoes. Cauliflower and broccoli are delicious. When I was in 3rd grade I had a bad bike accident and had to be airifted to the hospital, and the first thing I asked for when I came to was green jello and broccoli.

That's all.

I will say this

High quality tomatoes are good

But you don't get high quality tomatoe most places

You get leaky, tough tomatoes that don't break with bites so you end up dragging out half your burger

It's not so much about the quality as it is the ripeness. A sweet, ripe, juicy tomato adds the perfect acidity to round out the richness of the beef
and bacon
in a burger. Sounds like you want a less ripe one, though, for a firmer texture.

It is done. Now stop looking so tense :p
It is done.

Say what??
Believe it.

So I've been told. From the looks of it, I'm in good company on GAF.

Damn my post was buried at the bottom of the page before this and during an intense tomato discussion. It's hard keeping up with you guys sometimes. :/

A tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable.

Which reminds me of a saying I once read:

'An intelligent man knows a tomato is a fruit, a wise man knows not to put tomatoes in a fruitsalad'
I knew about it being a fruit, but I was wondering why specifically a berry. And that's a good saying.

My pickiness comes when something has cheese in it. I actually hate most cheeses, and those that I can take I only like in certain dishes/preparations. I don't know how many times I've been watching food network and salivating over some dish, and then gotten sad when they throw a handful of cheese right on top.

I actually love cheese, it just sucks that I can't have much of it. :/

Well, actually, the only time I don't like cheese is if it is melted in a sandwich. It kind of covers everything and mucks things up (and makes things too greasy for my liking.) But there are many, many good cheeses and things to put them on.

That sounds awful! It's really easy to get good cheap produce in Australia, so it's really rare to come across seriously dud fruits and veggies.

Okay, due to your earlier comments about cheese (a.k.a. the greatest food ever created by human hands) we almost weren't friends any more but the spoiler redeems all.

Why are you eating them on bread? Just pick that sucker up like an apple and bite into it. I swear tomatoes are delicious as hell.

I do like tomatoes on bruschetta as well, though. Just toast the bread first. My favorite bruschetta topping is made with tomatoes, onions, olives, garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. This is making me hungry. I'd make some right now but I'm missing a few ingredients :(
Hell yeah!
Tomatoes are delicious.
screw the haters.

You need to arrange your sandwiches better.

Melted cheese can be incredible when done right.

I'd be pretty sad if I lost my passport. I have a ton of stamps, along with nice-looking visas from Russia (this one has a hologram of Red Square), China, Laos, Vietnam, Egypt, and India.

Well, these are ones that I get at restaurants since I've never actually tried making one myself. I like melted cheese best when it's only sliiiiightly melted. Not goopy melted. In Germany I always have this kind of cheese on toast, and the cheese gets just a little bit melted from the heat of the toast and it is so good!

Which reminds me I need to apply for a schengen visa soon. Playing a show in Czech Republic this July. I might be visiting other European countries. If any GAFfers wanna meet, I'm game.

EDIT: WHY ARE ALL MY POSTS A FEW SECONDS AFTER LISSAR? RAAAAAGE.

It's really not that I want to dislike cheese, or anything really. I want to love all food, and not limit myself through pickiness. I just can't help the fact that some cheeses literally taste like rotten milk to me. The problems with texture are probably all psychological but I really don't know how to change that, either. I really hope I get over it all one day.

If you're in the Netherlands i'm totally down to grab a beer.
Were are you going in Czech? Prague? That is such a freakin awesome city.

Rage? :O

I really want to visit Czech Republic sometime. Prague looks beautiful.

Lissar, when was the last time you had a really good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich?

tomatoes are awesome and all, but i'm talking about potatoes. they have so many delicious applications, how could you not love them?

I love to take those little red new potatoes and quarter them, coat them in olive oil and spices/herbs, and roast them. Soooo good. Sweet potato fries are also freaking amazing. Thread is making me hungry as hell.

Potatoes are great. I love a well done potato salad.

Speaking of which, has anyone tried baked squash? I've been eating it lately and wow, is it good. Mix in some butter, salt and pepper like you would mashed potatoes and it is AMAZING.

So gooood. If you like your potatoes like that, you should give these a shot. It's straight magical.

This is probably a good place to mention that I just ate a kebab. They're greasy and salty but when you drown them in tzatsiki/jajik... good lord.

I can understand that actually. Even things like camembert and brie are a bit too moldy for my tastes, blue-vein and the like are totally out of the question. Most varieties of cheese I adore though. I'm really not meant to eat it but I just can't help myself.

Texture is a hard one to get around though, I love mushrooms but some of the big rubbery ones just seem off. When I was a kid my mum used to make us steak and kidney pie and I'd spend 10 minutes sifting through my portion pulling out all the kidney, again just because of the texture.

Edit: Oh we're on potatoes now. Well I have four bog Irish names in a row so you can probably guess what I think about those.

I'll hold you to it! There's a show called Obscene Extreme my band is playing at in July.

I usually try to reply to the person directly above me without quoting but you're too damn fast. :(

Best food I like to make with potatoes is Spanish tortilla, which is basically like a potato omelet. Can be eaten warm or cold or made into a sandwich.

Yeah, this is basically what I do to make potato taquitos. Except I cook with salsa and cheese and fry the tortilla a bit with all the ingredients inside.

I don't think I've ever had one. It looks a bit greasy, and I typically stay away from greasy food as it upsets my stomach (as you may have noticed given how often I get the pregnant.)

Ninja poster! That will teach you to not use quotes.

If by information you mean babbling about topics he knows nothing about.

:D

I love Wheatley.
"Ooh. It's dark down here, isn't it? They say that the old caretaker of this place went absolutely crazy. Chopped up his entire staff - of robots - all of them robots! They say at night you can still hear the screams - of their replicas. All of them functionally indistinguishable from the originals... No memory of the incident... Nobody knows what they're screaming about. Ab-solutely terrifying. Though obviously not paranormal in any meaningful way. "

I do love a lot of her recipes. These look awesome!

Do you ever check out Foodgawker? I spend so much damn time on this website. Almost as good a time waster as gaf or tvtropes.

Mushrooms! I love the taste but yeah, the texture tends to bother me a lot. I can deal with shavings of them, though. And I can use a mushroom demi-glace to get all the flavor without the texture.

oh man, one of favorite foods of all time. i love eating it cold on some toasted bread with tomato slices. Agh so hungry now, fridge is empty. :/

I died at that one. Also the smelly humans and their colorful folklore.

Aren't you from Germany? If so... what do you think about Reibekuchen with applesauce?

I had them at the Weihnacht market... I loved them!
