When I was younger I had to jump from a rooftop to another, and they weren't skyscrapers but definitely high enough to break bones or splat on fall.

Long story short, I jumped and almost missed it, hung on the edge with my knees and shoes scraping the side to push me up, it was piss-your-pants fear right there. I used all my upper body strength and got up.

Oh, and good morning GAF! :lol
Not many sentences start off like that. ._. So why is it that you had to jump from one rooftop to another? :P

According to them, my sisters used to do that for fun lol.

Where do you live?
Not far from you, Riyadh

So, ghost stories

For creative writing class, a friend and I had to go to this house in Liverpool that was an old merchant's mansion converted partially to a museum. We were assigned the trip at the beginning of the semester and just never got around to it. As the date for the story about the house approached, we realized the museum closed early that week so we HAD to go that night. We called the museum, confirmed their hours (they fussed, but we told them we were Americans who didn't understand the country well enough and they agreed to keep it open past 7:00) and we hopped on the train to Liverpool.

It was already dark by the time we got there, as it was December in England and shit gets dark early. We knocked on the front door to the mansion and, much like a movie, the door slowly creaked open. It was, apparently, already open and the knock simply gave it some forward momentum, but it was creepy all the same.

We walked around taking notes, recording with our phones, and talking to the teenage girl that was tasked with babysitting us.

Suddenly, lightning struck and the house went pitch black.

My friend clung to my arm out of instinct and I patted her back, not wanting her to know that I was also super freaked out. "Oh fuck," the teenage employee said. "This is why we don't stay open at night."

She was being kind of a bitch, but the point was taken.

Her footsteps got distant as she approached the front desk and lit a lantern. It had a base of oil and a cloth strap sticking out, burning really brightly. It basically lit up the room.

So we continued our tour, now with less video, and go to the room showing the dresses of the women who lived there. I started trying to formulate story ideas when one of the dressed mannequins fell over in the room behind us. We instinctively followed the girl with the lantern as she checked in on it, but she did not appear to notice or care that we were in the room with her. If the look of discomfort on her face was an act for us, then she has pretty amazing night-vision to have seen us peering around the door frame.

We backed up in to the room with the dresses as she marched toward us. "Are we done yet? We really need to close."

My friend began to mouth "Yes," before I interrupted her. I'm a writer. This often overrides good judgment.

"Can we see the office in the pamphlet?" I asked. I was curious because the office had the merchant owner's bottled-ships. It seemed like, if I were to be inspired by anything, it was going to be that.

We tip-toed downstairs and every creak made the loudest sound in the world. The three of us were walking in unison. If they were thinking the same thing I was, it was being done just to minimize the sound we make. All of us were telling ourselves that there was nothing there. Those extra creaks we heard were not there.

Those sounds coming from behind us were not there.

We eventually made it downstairs and walked in to the office. I regretted ever asking, but I was trying to look brave and could not back out now. The teenage girl opened the door, slowly at first, peeking in. I reasoned in my head that she has to do this when locking up every night, anyway. The bottles lining the walls, some filled with ships, others with stains of wine, reflected the moonlight from the window in a weirdly sickening way. I crossed the threshold between the dining room and the office.

The lights shot on accompanied by a thunderous clap. Whatever was suppressing them before no longer was. The three of us looked at each other and the combination of being startled and relieved is not a facial expression I am sure I can ever replicate. We took our remaining notes, and walked out of the office.

As the teenage girl locked the door, I heard my friend make a surprised scream. I look to her, maybe two feet behind me, and saw a small porcelain doll at her feet.

"Was this always here?!" she said out of fear.

"I...don't know. It was dark." I didn't know why I was answering. I think I wanted to convince myself it wasn't.

The teenage girl, however, turned ghastly pale. She rushed us out of the room and to the front desk. "Just take what you need and go. It is past closing time."

We excused ourselves and left. As we waited for a cab just off the road leading to the house, we saw a hill that extended back from behind the museum. I suggested that there might be a good view to describe and we had umbrellas, so we should check it out. On the hill, we found four things.

Three gravestones.

One doll.

Woah, seriously? So many Saudi-GAFfers I didn't know about hahaha. All I know are Jinfash, WrathOfOtaibah, Gomu Gomu, Despera, and now you. Am I missing someone else?
That's pretty awesome. I'm sure i'm the ONLY gaffer in Syria right now. The only one I knew who had family here is now banned, lulz. Anyone from Katy (near Houston) Texas? It's where I used to live.

Ninja training?
:lol something like that!

No it was basically me and a friend trying to impress two other girls with us. I was the first to jump (peer pressure all that) and they screamed when I was clinging on, but my asshole friend was just laughing.

No one jumped afterwards, and I was the one who opened up the roof door for them to come up, which was the mission the whole time.

That is a 100% true story, by the way.

We talked about it later and decided the teenage girl must have taken the doll and put it out there. The way we walked back, we would not have been able to see her do it.

I mean...that's the logical explanation.

Just found textbroker.com, which confirms what I've suspected for some time: writing is the single most useless talent in the world (sorry Alberto!).

I wish I could re-roll my character with all my writing skill points re-allocated to engineering or something like that.

Hey, I flip houses in my offtime.

Writing's just what I'm good at, not what pays the bills.

I was just about to go to bed, too. I've always been unusually affected by the thought of ghosts. I mean, I realize how irrational it is but on the other hand I can't get them out of my head once they're there.

Fortunately I like being scared.

Unfortunately that doesn't help me sleep. :<

I have others! But for your sake (and also I'm tired), I will save them for later.

I go many different ways on the idea of ghosts. I like going to haunted places and reading and writing about it, but I can't say I necessarily believe in them.

The paranormal is such a fun idea but there's no real scientific basis for it. I guess my imagination is enraptured by the idea, but my intelligence is like "Stop being a dumb plz."

I do love the idea of ghosts. And it's so universal too. You can go anywhere and explore stories of the paranormal in any culture. It definitely tickles the same part of my brain that fantasy does. It's fun to get caught up in it, but I can't say I believe in it either.

Tomorrow I can type up the story of when I was wandering around Kiyo Mizu in Japan.

spoiler it was scary

You got me at the last line Alberto.

There's that guy with Gruntilda's avatar (Edit: NEO0MJ).
There are +5 more who barely post here anymore, I met most of them IRL (I know them from another forum).

I had a 12 hour layover in Riyadh. That airport was a trip.
Terrible airport, no? Nothing to do or get.

Awesome story Alberto!
I remember the last time i was scared shitless, it was pretty dumb looking back but whatever. I was at Universal Studios in Hollywood, and there was a haunted house. We saved the haunted house for last, and when we went in, it was just me and my buddy.
Now, you know it's a haunted house, so you know it's designed to make you freak out, keeping that in my mind we were doing fine, but the discomfort kept growing as we were walking trough the haunted house, when we had to push some fake bodybags hanging from the ceiling out of the way, we both agreed this wasn't really fun anymore, so we kinda rushed to the end and when we ended up in a wel light corridor i was relieved and let my guard down. I turn around the corner and stare right in the face of Jason from Friday the 13th. That scared the living shit out of me.

Taco Bell is finally opening in my little part of Saudi Arabia. You know it's bad when people are excited about a new Taco Bell opening up.

You got me at the last line Alberto.

Are we doing ghost stories? Oh oh oh pick me.

So uni is on break I move back in with my mum. Every thursday she invites her friends round to watch a TV program called Most Haunted. My mum believes in Ghosts, Friend #1 believes, friend #2 does not.

Now just before I had moved back in, one night my mother suggests "Ouija Board!" which was met with mixed reviews.

Friend #1: "Holy shit gtfo no way too scary ima piss my pants". (exaggerated with my own 'online mannerisms' obviously)

Friend #2: "Meh ghosts dont exist anyway so I really couldnt give a shit." (Note: COULDN'T give a shit. NOT could give a shit.)

In a fucked up way it was 2vs1 and the oujia board idea went ahead. The only problem was, they never actually had one so it was time to rip up some paper and find a slippery flat surface.

The slippery flat surface they decided to use to let the glass tumbler fly to the letters happened to be my glass framed signed poster of the Joker from the dark knight. So off they went and did the oujia board. With friend #1 close to shitting herself, friend #2 being smug thinking she was bigtime, my mums eyes went wide with excitement. They all placed a finger on the glass tumbler lightly, with cautious eyes to make sure no-one was cheating. When they were satisfied with the set-up they began to ask their questions...

... I'm not sure which question they asked, but there was a pause...

... Nothing happened.

Literally, nothing. The glass didn't move, no flashing lights, no fires and no eerie winds to scare the shit out of anyone. Even friend #1 was like "wtf that was disappointing". So they decided to pack up.

They throw out all the pieces of paper they used, put the glass tumbler away and my mum went down stairs to put my framed poster away. She hangs the poster up..... side down(face). Well thats what she thought she did, so she tried to hang it up the other way. Only problem was she couldn't, it was already hanging up the correct way. Note, the reason why she couldn't hang it up the other way was because it was hanging on a string that comes down from the top only about 20% of the way. So to hang it up the other would be, impossible.

my mum honestly thought someone (most likely friend #2) was trying to play a trick so she had decided at this point just to fix the picture inside the poster and leave it as that. Onnnllllly, the frame had been tightened shut with special screws. Yeah.

So not only could no-one have turned that picture upside down (face) as a prank they also didn't have any screwdrivers or shit to even fix the picture. My mum brings the frame back upstairs and explains the situation to both friends. To be met with mixed reviews yet again. Friend #1 was in total shock and amazement. Friend#2 on the other hand was frozen in sheer fear. The funniest thing was the TV turned off during the awkward silence after hearing this story. Which made friend #2 literally get up off her chair, grab her shit and go home. She never came back to our house.

Fun fact: Friend #1 has a 4 year old daughter who claims she sees dead people and can explain them in insane detail for her age.

Fast forward to a month after I move in with my mum again. She tells me this story and I laugh at her. I think shes being ridiculous and mention that she was most likely high, she claims she was not.

So one day my mum has to travel 150 miles for a court case. She wakes up at 8am and sets off. I wake up at 10:30 and jump into the shower. I'm singing, badly, and I hear my mum come home. "Thats earlier than I thought she would be, not expecting her until 5pm at the earliest". I thought to myself but shrugged it off. I thought maybe she forgot something and was cutting it close. I never hear her leave.

As I dry off and am about to leave the bathroom I open the door to find...

... Toiler paper.

Yap! Toilet paper, at the foot of the door. That wasn't there before and I would have known. Maybe my mum left it there for me to put in the bathroom when I was done. Speaking of which I still haven't heard her leave she should be on the train now...

I go upstairs to speak to her, shes not home. Maybe she did leave and I didn't hear her. Fast forward to 8PM that night. She gets home. I ask her about the toilet paper and was met with the response.

"Shit I forgot to buy toilet paper! Wait we have toilet paper?"

I was there around Christmas, I wanted to go to the haunted house but my friend (a gaffer) was too tired to walk :<

Anyone ever broken a bone? Always wondered what that felt like but I'm not curious enough. Watching Big Nog get his arm broken by Frank Mir was stuff of nightmares. And how they repeated it over and over. UGH.

Nice new av la1n, but damn if those side burns don't looked sharpied in. :lol

Never, thank god. Never even had stitches in my whole life, awesome!

Only bone I've ever had broken was my skull. Wasn't even that bad really, though it bled a pretty frightening amount.

Seeing the broken bones during stuff like MMA or kickboxing grosses me out. I hate the one of the kickboxer that tries to take a step backwards and his leg folds on itself in the wrong direction because it was completely broken...

Oh they be real. Also, I have broken many many bones over the course of my life. To be honest I got used to it after a while. I will say a dislocated wrist being popped back into place strangely feels great.

Holy shit dude, I spent YEARS trying to forget I saw that. That was messed up.

Oh hey, I can take my hat off now right?

And I've never broken any bones. Well. I've never broken any of my bones. I accidentally fractured my friend's brother's finger once.

...yeeeaah.

PS. If there are multiple versions of your name (with a copied letter at the end) that just means those are the different versions of your avatar I have saved, not the same avatar saved multiple times.

I was just about to go to bed, too. I've always been unusually affected by the thought of ghosts. I mean, I realize how irrational it is but on the other hand I can't get them out of my head once they're there.

Fortunately I like being scared.

Unfortunately that doesn't help me sleep. :<

Oh I'd love to have a helpful ghost at my place like the one Cordelia has at her apartment in Angel (TV show).

Except I am lemurs. And if I recall correctly we chatted briefly in AIM before you scared the fuck out of me. I might be thinking of someone else though.

This is gonna be the new avatar instead.

i guess you were lying about having cystic fibrosis like lonestar. what a horrible thing to do for attention.

The best "ghost" story I have? Hmmmm. When I was about 9 or 10 I saw a pair of eyes staring at me from beneath my bed. They were reflective in the dark like a cat's. I was home alone and stared at them for a good minute or two before backing out of my bedroom and closing the door. I could see nothing else under there but the eyes. We had no pets at the time. I had never before been scared by "monsters under the bed," or any kind of childhood monster fantasy really.

I remember hearing like a wheezing low growl the whole time I was staring at it, and being so scared I had tunnel vision. I thought it might have been an animal that snuck into the house, and when my parents came home later in the day I looked for it. But there was nothing.
