NFL 2011 Divisional Round |OT| Jesus cast flag merchants, rapists out of His temple

This year I decided to stop following top prospects. Patriots are so fucking unpredictable that it's useless. The only thing I can count on is that they will trade down in the draft.

I don't even know who we draft this year. Do we go O-Line to shore that up and help the run game, or do we take care of the LB and secondary that got torn apart during the season?

How is the panthers oline?

Pretty good, although I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we end up drafting an OT to take over Otah's job. Otah, when on the field, has been an absolute monster at RT, but the problem is that qualifier: "when on the field". He played 12 of 16 games his rookie year, and started 2009 off well, but missed the final 3 games of the season and was placed on IR. He missed the entire 2010 season after undergoing what was described at the time as "a minor arthroscopic knee operation" during training camp. Then he started 4 of the first 6 games this year before being placed on IR again with a back injury. The guy's ended on IR in 3 of his 4 seasons and has only played in 29 of a possible 64 games. The Panthers expect him to start at RT next year and it's the final year of his rookie contract, so it's a make or break year for him.

Other than that, our starting RG, Geoff Schwartz, missed the entire season this past year, so he'll be back in the lineup, moving Hangartner back to a utility back-up, a position for which he's much more situated. The only other place where I could see the Panthers begin to entertain the possibility of replacing is LT Jordan Gross, who's starting to get a little old and slipping in skill somewhat, but I think he's good for at least the next 2 seasons.

Kitna is retiring.

I hated him for predicting success with the Lions when he played (started 6-2) and crumbled horrible after that..oh well.

You guys still might.
We need a middle linebacker if Goff isn't the answer. Who knows how he'll come back from the ACL injury, too. He's an excellent run stuffer but average in coverage.

We also need a SAM backer as well. I would say the same about Kiwi that I said about Goff. Great run stuffer, just not very good in coverage.

Boley has worked out well and is having a heck of a year for us though. Easily our best LB'er in coverage and he's been better this year against the run and in short yardage situations in the latter half of the season. He's been called "soft" in that regard in the past.

Unlike Welllie though, I won't be all that upset if we pass on a linebacker in the early rounds. We have young guys developing at the position (J. Williams continues to look better each game he plays) and I'll reiterate my want for the Giants to focus on the interior offensive line this draft. We need Guard/Center badly. I would also take a RT as Mckenzie doesn't have much left. Far more pressing needs...

I know I know. :(

They have nfl replay of Packers/Giants on right now. Really hope Clifton can last the game...Newhouse just straight getting schooled on a high % of plays, regardless of pass or run.

If it wasn't for rodgers getting the ball out quick, he'd likely be dead.

“Not to say they’re soft,” Raji said via Barbara Barker of Newsday. “But it’s not the toughest group I’ve been against.”

While the Giants line has struggled throughout the year, they are playing much better recently and did well against the Packers in early December. New York rushed for five yards-per-carry against Green Bay. Eli Manning mostly got good protection during the game. (He was hit three times and sacked once.)

Back in the spring of 2008, when he was very much in charge of the Oakland Raiders’ singularly peculiar organization, Al Davis presided over a predraft meeting at the team’s Alameda, Calif., training facility. As coaches and personnel officials discussed what to do with the fourth overall pick, which the team would ultimately use to select Arkansas halfback Darren McFadden, the Hall of Fame owner’s son, Mark, casually drifted into the room.

“Mark,” Davis said, stopping the meeting and sounding genuinely interested. “What do you think we should do?”

Caught off guard, the younger Davis mumbled something about needing a wide receiver.

Wrong answer.

“A [expletive] receiver?” Al Davis snapped, his voice rising. “Get the [expletive] out of here.”

I'm watching Inside the NFL on Showtime right now, and they showed Bengals S Chris Crocker quoting Al Pacino from Any Given Sunday while giving a speech to his teammates before the Bengals/Texans game. :lol

I guess it depends on how well Mayhew does with free agency.

Mayhew apparently doesn't think the defense needs an "overhaul."

The Detroit News said:
"Obviously, we didn't finish off well, but I think injuries were a factor in that," Mayhew said. "By no means do I think we need an overhaul on defense. We have a lot of good defensive players and a good defensive coaching staff. We need to healthy-up a little bit."

But there seem to be quite a few quality corners available to compliment Houston.

The Detroit News said:
Cortland Finnegan, Titans: The team's mainstay for six seasons doesn't lack toughness, is only 27 and appears to be eager for a change of scenery.

Brandon Carr, Chiefs: Flint native and former Grand Valley State standout might be tempted to play in his home state.

Tim Jennings, Bears: Sound 28-year-old tackler who's been healthy most of career, seeing the field in 32 straight games.

Terrell Thomas, Giants: Had a career-high 111 tackles in 2010, but a torn ACL forced him to miss all of 2011.

Tracy Porter, Saints: Shook off a November neck injury and appears to have, at 25, his best football ahead of hi

So maybe that points towards longer term investments via the draft in the O-line? I mean, Jason Fox and Johnny Culbreath exist and are young...but they're both tackles and both ended up on IR. Rumors are swirling about Backus' retirement since he tore his bicep.

Not sure Raji can say that. As I'm rewarching the game I haven't seen him do anything yet. I feel bad for Clay because when he's given the opportunity to rush, he's the only guy pushing the pocket and bringing pressure (while taking on the tackle and getting chipped by the RB, if not a guard as well).

Big completion before Nicks TD catch, he pushed through the tackle and running back, then for his efforts he got absolutely blasted by the guard as he came back to help.

We really need to make a move this offseason for another effective lineman. Raji won't be able to win a battle in the middle when other lineman are basically disregarded.

I think Finnegan ends up in Detroit if the price is right with Schwartz here. And I think Backus is probably either retiring or getting released. So with that ... O-Line probably would be the draft unless they need something they didn't get in FA.

Yes. In 3 years Rex has 4 playoff wins and a winning record in the regular season after a shitty coach.

The Jets were as successful with Chad Pennington a few years ago

Fox318 said:
Also Rex has a top ranked defense, not like that swiss cheese offense that Bill runs and drafts.

Ranked 7th in the league is stretching top ranked this season. Jets also allowed more points this year than the Patriots.

Fox318 said:
Guy runs a corrupt organization and cheats. Look at Bill's hiring, look at spygate, look at McDaniel's hiring.

Just so I get this straight. You're a Jets fan right? A fan of a team that recruited Bill Parcells during the Patriots '96 Super Bowl run to the point where he didn't even go back with the team? You're talking about the Patriots hiring of Belichick? Hahaha okay!

Fox318 said:
You want to talk about club history?

Even if we take out Brady/Belichick, the Patriots have still been to two Super Bowls in the same time period the Jets haven't gotten out of the AFC.

Fox318 said:
How many times were the Pats gonna move to a different city?

One? When Kraft took over the team he used Hartford as leverage. There is still some question if he ever thought about moving, considering how little support a team playing there would have gotten.

Fox318 said:
What do you define as successful in the playoffs?

Winning the Super Bowl.

Fox318 said:
Reaching an AFL championship, winning the Superbowl making the playoffs?

Winning the Super Bowl.

Fox318 said:
The Jets have made the AFC championship game in the first 2 years of a new coach's rein. I'd call that success.

The Jets did indeed do that. On the strength of a defense which is slowly withering into mediocrity. Then this year they didn't even make the playoffs. In a league where the Bengals and Broncos with mediocre teams did.

Fox318 said:
Also who talks about their team full of practice squad players with pride?

Not saying it with pride. Just describing how bad the Patriots talent wise are on defense this year. They've been hit with a rash of injuries and made some questionable personnel decisions.

Fox318 said:
Also your team lost to and created Brent. That makes your team automatically worst.

Actually the '96 Pats lost to Desmond Howard. Nice try though.

Fox318 said:
Jets ownership has actually brought in talented players instead of letting somebody like Bill try and have every draft pick in 2039. Maybe if Bill should realize that he doesn't have to have a practice squad for a full roster. Outside of a shit OC and a RT they have brought in good talent.

The Jets offensive line isn't very good outside of Mangold.

The Jets defensive success is predicated on drafting Darrelle Revis. Their other draft picks like Kyle Wilson have largely been forgettable.

Fox318 said:
I can't wait till Tebow(with Ezekiel 25:17 on his eyeblack) walks on to the field throws for 400 and runs for 200 and then all of the talk is what a great job Bill has done with the team he has and what a great coach he is to have Brady and choke 3 years in a row.

You'll be waiting a while for something like that to happen.

Belichick is still pretty good. And he's a head coach. To repeat, Rex Ryan is a defensive coordinator. He knows about as much about the Jets offense as Woody Johnson.

Fox318 said:
Bill will win coach of the year again despite losing in the playoffs and ESPN will have another circlejerk session about Bill and Brady.

Does any fan actually give a shit about coach of the year? Tom Brady has been one of the most successful quarterbacks of all time. Same with Belichick. If you're envious of being circle jerked by ESPN, win a fucking championship.

You had your chance to crow when the Pats lost to the Jets in the playoffs last year. Now's your turn to take your two losses this year like a man and hope there's somehow a miracle next year.

Not sure Raji can say that.
I think he's the only one on the team that makes comments like that - he always has a little extra to say.

I hope he finally shows up big in the playoffs though... he had strong finish last year and I thought it would carry over to the new season, but he's been a non-factor.

Its what happens when you make a fullback play nose tackle.

I think the Raji stuff is funny.
What he says isn't far off though despite his own performance this season being less than stellar. The Giants offensive line has been so terribly inconsistent. One only needs to watch the difference between the first half vs the second half of that Falcons game. Some of that is adjustment (leaving the tight end/back in to chip, etc.) but it's amazing how soft they can look one minute and then blow guys off of the ball the next.

Watch portions of the Seahawks game early in the season and then put in some of the Niners game. You would think you were watching two completely different sets of players.

Why do it to yourself?

I made a point to avoid all national media this week.

Yeah that's just masochistic to re-watch. All you do is read the paper and listen to the radio until you realize it's all just one or two people's fault, and then you hope they get fired

Rams lost to Seattle last year in play in game, it was Shurmur's fault, he left, and I had an offseason of hope

Anything better from the O Line this time would just be gravy for A-God. Can't see them playing any worse now that Bulaga and Cliffy are back
