I just really liked the name.

The director spoke at GSU once and I got him to sign a video "to ShockingAlberto".
 
Just saw this thread. Halfway through the month but whatever I'm in.

Combination of Xenogears and the Flux Capacitor from Back to the Future. I was into time travel back in the day and the name has stuck with me. Had to add the 2113 for gaf though. I got that from Coheed and Cambria.

My dear grandma, god rest her soul, gave me the nickname when I was 4 y/o. Nobody knows what it actually means, but we know she was a cranky old lady and I was an annoying kid, so my family is 70% sure it isn't flattering label.

However, that didn't stop me from using it on the internet since '99.

I specifically named my avatar file with this in mind, but it turns out that having spaces in between the words cuts off everything after the space when the file is uploaded to GAF, so my plans were thwarted...until now.

You're definitely in there. :p You were one of the first avs I through into the folder, actually (according to my creation date sorting, too). We now have 741 avs in the folder, btw.

That's around 620-650+ individual unique members (or juniors) participating in RPJ.

Missed the whole username explanation bit.

I'm the dude with the power of a thousand exploding sons (that's not a typo). Also, I ripped carnage apart once, in fucking space.
 
I've already mentioned where my username came from, but might as well explain it again.

I didn't know what to call myself so just used the name of an old blues/folk musician whose CD I had on my desk at the time.

He was convinced that the industry was moving toward cinematic, story-based games.

Which it kind of was. But he has a small team bad managerial skills and no idea how to use a budget so they managed to spend the vast majority of a $100 million advance from Microsoft for a trilogy on one game. He openly lashed out against and tried to sue Epic over UE3 support and made spurious claims about how every developer also hates UE3 but doesn't say anything for fear of pissing off Epic. So a large amount of that money went toward them repeatedly trying, and failing, to build an engine for the game.

They also suffered from some weird god complex, as if Dyack's thread here didn't indicate that well enough. They were convinced things like 19-second death animations were pushing the medium forward.

I think most of it was ego. He had seen some critical success, and it seemed it went to his head. Most obviously this comes through the posts leading to his banning on GAF, a misplaced belief that he is some kind of implacable uberman and that his opinions were the only right ones.

Of course that's speculation based almost solely on his response to criticism on GAF.

He's in financial trouble now because he's been taking government taxbreaks and assistance for employing a certain number of people and they did not have nearly enough work to warrant that many people.

Silicon Knights is a house of cards, really. If they don't go this gen, they'll be the first casualty of next gen.

I wanted something with my name in it to make it easier for others (and myself) when playing online.

When me, my brother, and our two friends used to play TMNT when we were little, we combined our names with the turtles' because it was radical. I was Ryanardo, my brother was Adamangelo, and the other two were Jonatello and... well, we could never work anything out for Christopher. lol

I was just going to use Ryanardo, but DaVinci is awesome and it filled up the 15 character limit on PSN.

I'm the oldest in a family of four kids, and two of those names match up in my family.

So basically we are like, 50% the same person.
 
As the game went from a Deus Ex-like, upgrade-based action RPG to a ridiculous 2 player loot whore game based on Norse mythology, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed by the creative decisions on display. I really liked Eternal Darkness, so I was looking forward to Too Human.

Gothy high school username was noiretoile (mushing together the french words for black star). Over the years, it shortened to noire in some places, before I abandoned it altogether. This is just a holdover.
 
Anyone have snow?

It's raining and getting colder, so we're sort of waiting on it. The only snow we've seen so far were flakes sometime in November. I want snow!
 
I can't remember the last time we had a serious snow storm.

There was one time in January 2004 (and I remember it very specifically because I was supposed to be flying back to Japan that day) where we had an ice storm. Everything was literally coated in ice. We stopped at a rest stop because we knew it was too dangerous to continue. I walked around and saw that even the plants and trees were encased in a centimeter thick coating of ice.

It's been awhile for snow though. I'd like to see an inch or two before the winter is over.
