Hero: Tidehunter

Boots: Power Treads

Item 1: Satanic
Item 2: Scythe of Vyse
Item 3: Necronomicon 3
Item 4: Armlet
Item 5: Rod of Atos

Only had income for satanic and treads, but we still won. Oh man, I'm going to enjoy this site.

All you can do in the current MM is to just work on your own game and try and improve, and try not to worry about results. Game still needs more people, the system needs more work, and hopefully they'll display the rating again.

It's such a waste to play support when you end up helping total idiots farm for 25 minutes before realizing they have nothing to contribute. Better to just pick some ganker/semicarry and go the whole game without wards and courier while taking care of no one else but yourself.
Yeap. Solo queue when no one's around to MM. If you can deal with the attitudes around you you'll be fine

It turns out, if your Morphling, and you put all your points into agility, you do a lot of damage.
Works pretty well if the other team is too dumb to not focus you on your 1000hp.

Just went 15/2, after getting power treads at like 20 minutes. Worst game turned into best game. Ultimate glass cannon.

It also helped that Sanjay and I provided some nice aura's (Drow + VS).

I thought the patch notes said all difficulties are the same atm, they just implemented the choices, not the AI per se.

I think on easy you get more gold than the other choices.

Edit:

I know I said Drow was a boring class to play, but I got her again just to spite an AM, and unfortunately he wasn't in my lane ;_;

Anyways, towards then end it was hilarious to watch a pudge, an AM, and Enigma try to join in on the ganking fun. I'm sure the AM wasn't bad, since my team kept telling everyone to stop giving AM kills, and pudge seemed like he was doing good. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't laughing so hard when their gank efforts were unsuccessful in the end.

It's amazing to see Pudge's huge HP pool drain so fast when attacking with a Manta and a Butterfly :o

And stop an AM from blinking is satisfying :3

I just installed the game and played a game for the first time ever and I can say it plays nothing like rise of nations. I'm also pretty sure I didn't kill a single god dam thing. I was able to use that dragon knight and turn into a dragon but that didn't seem very useful as everything seemed to kill it.

This guide hasn't failed me at all when playing DK (okay just once when I couldn't find the ancients for the Dire (?) side).

edit: The Radiant side is the side the ancients I didn't find in my first game with him after this guide.

As I'm watching this video I'm realizing I did the complete opposite of everything in the video.

Hahaha don't worry. My first game was with DK too and I did beyond horrible. Auto attacked creeps, used my ult like once, and fed (on accident ;_;).

You can also check out his Venomancer vid which is just as good as his Dragon Knight one.

Edit: This guy is awesome to see how someone experienced plays.

Think I'm gonna try and focus on VS. While I suck at my timing for swaps, I do like the character.

How do you all skill her?

I think you do Magic Missile every other level from start and then also do howl alternating with it and swap ASAP. By gank time it's worth getting aura I think? Howl has vision which is a nice perk when you use it too.

Also some of your swaps seemed unnecessary since there wasn't a chase for some of them. I would save them for escaping heroes and stuff, you can always swap then run back and stun if needed.

I suck and might be wrong

Could probably try the guide in the OP :O

I like how the guide just updated with the recent patch not only with the new boots, but a small thing arguing that the relabel gold from kills is likely better on the support then a carry, since the carry can farm up the 250 gold easily while a most supports tend to have no ability to farm.

Supports Nowadays
This part is an "update" part, so it can be in conflict with other statements of the guide. I'll try to replace them when I have time, so don't worry.

In the competitive scene, we have seen a lot of "wardbitch supports": No-items heroes who just buy things for the team and then, with no items, tries to survives the teamfight. But, nowadays a lot of teams are trying to give more gold and exp for their supports. Why? Would you ask. I also asked it when I noticed it, but I think their reasoning is the following:

When you play a support, you obviusly will try to buy Wards, Smoke and shit. Also, you are told by your mates to let your carry the kills and the farm. Where will you get the gold? Okay, let's check how much gold gives you a hero: ~250. That's more or less 5 creeps. A carry can easily farm that gold (or even more) without problems. At the end, he is the carry. But... What about the supports? They will appreciate way more that gold, as they can't touch creeps that frecuently. So, okay, let's give some kills (Not all of them, obviusly) to the supporters.

This reasoning is followed by the "change of mindset" from support players. Now, they are more aware of his role and affirm that nowadays the supports really makes a big impact on the game. Isn't anymore the "carry wins the game" thinking... Supports, with items like Force Staff or Mekans, have a big impact on teamfights and, subsequently, on the game.

stun at level one
wave at level two
???
profit

Thats more or less what I figured.

I tried a game after the video and I still suck(gonna need a lot more practice), but what astounded me was that the second I did one thing wrong every single person became so unhelpful for the rest of the game that it just was not fun at all. Now I know that I wasn't good, but the level of douchbagery was off the charts.

Play with bots until you grasp the basics, or find a buddy to 1v1 who'll show you some of the ropes. Then you can start to worry about fighting human intelligences and group battles.

If you go into a game live you have to understand your teammates will be trapped with you for about 30-50 minutes. That's a big time investment, and people get cranky if they're stuck that long struggling against a foregone conclusion.

Link me your Steam ID and I'll do a 1v1 with you to see where you're going wrong.

Alright thanks a lot, sent out a pm.

Thing about bots is that they give no semblance of teamwork and coordination whatsoever.

Getting some pure practice games with one or more friends is definitely the best way to get a feel for the game if you're new. Even reading the guides won't do much if you don't have in game experience.

If you have enough people, what can work well is to have a game against the bots. While they don't make good team mates, they are actually a pretty good enemy team, and do better then most pubs in the early game.

Premade teams obviously trump all in matchmaking. I went in with 3 other friends for 3 matches. The first we lost, but it was close. The other 2 we won, and they were complete stomps. In one game, I was Pudge, and I saw Riki trying to push mid, then he ran off from the creeps and I noticed the direction he was running. He turned invisible, I threw my hook out, pulled him in and killed him. He said "lol lucky", then I said "No, not really, I just predicted where you were going and threw the hook out." Faceless Void on the other team said "Ur terrible" (talking to me). A little later that same match, I had rot on, and Faceless Void Chronospheres me, but he has barely any health, and I still am at about half health. He runs up to me and melees me anyway, despite having Rot on! It kills him, the Chronosphere disappears, and I get away scot free. At the end of the 2 stomps we had, we all said "gg", and they were all like "No, shitty game."

There was one match where about halfway through, Sand King says "just end it, the kids are fighting." Earthshaker says "Well Broodmother is terrible and won't teamfight for shit." Broodmother says something about Earthshaker being terrible, and they were all really sour at the end of the match.

He was really new. He would dive towers at level 1 and didn't know what last hitting was. I warned him about not getting used to the AI behavioral patterns but I think bot games would help him at least master the basics. Our little session hopefully helped a bit.

Random train of thought: Veil of Discord give 12 stat points, 5 Armor, 5 HP Regin. Mekansm gives 5 Armor, 15 stat points, 4 HP Regin Aura. Veil costs 2650 while Mek cost 2306.

Conclusion: Veil is an offensive alternative to Mekansm, giving similar stats but a very different build up and effect. The 25% damage amplification will mean spells do 93.75% to most heroes. Mek is the easier item to build, while Veil may allow a team to capitalize on an early game advantage if they are heavy on casters, and could be worth it for an int support to get (Double so if you already have a mek on the team)

Also, it has a pretty 500 area of effect, plus a 875 Cast Range. Last 15 seconds too.

wow you figured out that an item that increases damage is supposed to be used offensively. any other gems? Is Dagon an offensive item too?

Am i the only one who thinks Staff of Vyse needs a price drop aswell? To me it seems more inferior than Orchid. I'd rather take the 5 sec silence + 25% more damage over the 3.5 sec critter. Plus Orchid has better stats in general.

Orchid just silences them, so they can still attack and use items, Sheep disables everything. Sheep is probably the best item in the game.

Sweet Baby Jesus, where do you guys get these opinions from.

Silence + 25% more damage vs Silence + really slow movement + no attack

Yeah the closest thing to this I've played before was Rise of Nations. Pretty much brand new to the genre.

Ahh I see. I'm no expert in the game but I'll be glad to do some bot practices with you as well, hit me up.

How upset does that make you?

I don't know, that even makes me a little upset. LOL

Hard cc is nearly always preferable to soft cc. That is the main reason why vyse costs so much, without that price tag it would be far too easy to rush it and basically extend any stunlock by 3.5 seconds. Orchid is only good effective if you can follow up on it in the form of slows/stuns.

Orchid will stop an AM from blinking away, but it won't stop him from smashing your face in.

(Vyse also purges certain spells, such as Abaddon's Aphotic shield, as well as disabling evasion effects)

Orchid is pretty good now. It 1500g cheaper than a Guinsoo's and is significantly easier to build. I'd probably get it as my first 'real' item on INT gankers like Storm Spirit.
