2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur

I don't really think there's room for a campaign-sp mode. Unless they do something like the older unreal games where the "campaign" was merely a set of mp matches against different bots.

On the plus-side you can play against the bots, obviously it's not going to be the same as playing against human opponents but you'll still be able to try out the different heroes and have some fun I'm sure of it. In the end the game is pretty much entirely an mp-focused game.

Dammit!

It looks so friggin' sexy too :(

Those texture packs for Mass Effect 2 mostly come from here;

I don't have all of those, but most, as well as some more. Most of the textures themselves are made by this guy and posted in that thread. You can download the various Ultra or Optimised quality character textures and some extras at the bottom of the first post. He still posts so it looks like he's making even more.

You'll need TextMod to activate the textures each time you want to play, as ME2 isn't mod friendly. It essentially brute forces new textures into the game, and due to the high resolution this creates a huge loading spike during game booting. Loading between levels is normal, but that load when you boot up the game is increased significantly. It might seem like your computer isn't even responding, but it is, so let it sit for 5 - 10 minutes while it loads in all the new data.

Will I need to make a sandwich?

Early-morning hunt for some deer. Came across some pheasants but I'm not allowed to hunt those.

Whelp, looks like I'm doing a playthrough.

That looks to be pretty far ahead in the future...anything else like Generals or Zero hour? Also is Zero Hour an expansion pack? Do I need Generals to play zero hour if I were to order it online...It's still like 20 bucks though, for a 9 year old game? Should I buy the "First Decade" pack.

Also can't understand why this isn't available for download.

Yeah you need Generals to play Zero Hour, it's the expansion. First decade might actually be cheaper I think, judging from what I've seen at retail.

Quick and dirty comparison of the ME2 texture pack to vanilla. Original on the left, new on the right. Same shots I posted earlier, but I took some vanilla to see the difference.

Is that the "pinky eye" mod? :P I think the vanilla face looks better, except for the irises.

Someone needs to take this game and make a Diablo-esque mod. I'd pay $100 for it.

I agree. She is supposed to be genetically engineered to be flawless, and I would assume that goes for her complexion as well.

I only have Mass Effect 2. I wanted the first one, but missed it on sale over the holidays. Is it ok to skip it and start on the second? Aren't they different gameplay-wise?

Different, yes, different is the word. Better in some ways, worse in others. The defaults for decisions on the first if you didn't play it are DUMB but you can rest assured that none of it will mean anything for the 3rd game. All their talk of the weight of choices means jack shit. I don't know how to explain the differences aside from this:

If you like sci-fi TV shows, you will probably prefer 1.
If you like sci-fi movies, you will probably prefer 2.

That's a funny thing to say since 1 captures a better cinematic scope and plot development, but for all other aspects, that is how it feels.

Interesting. I think I'll just start with 2 then. I skipped The Witcher and still like 2 a lot.

Oh, I forgot to mention. There is an ME2 save editor that lets you change flags for ME1 story bits, so if you want you can read up on it and pick what you want... or not. I would recommend flipping it to romance with Liara because she's Shepard's WAHN TWU WAHV and it's nearly canon now after Shadow Broker, although they'll definitely have something substantial for Tali stans lest they burn down the dev studio.

Do not skip Mass Effect 1.

It's far better than 2 in pretty much every possible way. At least, on PC it is.
The story makes sense and progresses smoothly, crazy amounts of customization, a much more explorable galaxy, more interesting characters, and the section with the Citadel is amazing.

It's hard to explain how the locations you visit and people you meet make it a far more entertaining experience without spoiling the game, but it is absolutely worth your money.

That's crazy talk, bro. The combat in ME2 is amazing. I didn't like the ammo system but holy shit everything else about it is so much nicer. ME1 certainly makes a better memory but you can't ignore the combat improvements of ME2. Also the plot is almost nonesitent in ME2 but the conversations are definitely better a lot of the time, and let's not forget the
genophage and geth
issues. Some of the best shit in gaming history right there.

The combat was better mechanically, but the encounters weren't designed to its benefit. Plus, there was something about the first game's HUD on the PC that made it feel better than 2. I remember that the HUD was completely redone when it was ported post-release. And in the first game, I appreciated being rewarded for being curious. Extra experience points for exploring as many conversational options as possible? Hell yes.

But that doesn't even matter, the first one shouldn't be skipped, right?

My fucking eyelashes have disappeared.

AGAIN.

Agreed with this. ME1 has the far better progressive story, whereas ME2 is like Enterprise but with better combat. I feel there's not enough "I'm the badass in the galaxy, Commander shepard" in #2, instead it's "I'm commander shepard, tell me your FEEEELINGS please let me sleep with you".

On the PC. I don't really play console games anymore if it has a PC version.

Combat isnt better, is just more polished, but it doesnt have a deep of first game, its also spamfest and too easy. They've limited it too much.

=
And btw no one should skip Mass Effect 1, its so amazing game, with great characters and environments to visit. If You dont know Mass Effect universe You have to play first one as first, because its slower at the beginning and introduce You too to world more deeply.

Can we not have this fucking pointless debate again in a completely unrelated thread?

Dammit Corky, those DOTA2 screenshots look awesome!

I guess performance is as good as any source game is right! If someone has an invite left I would greatly appreciate it.

Scitek, you shouldn't skip ME1, specially because of the story and character development (specially your character) and that some events in ME2 and ME3 take into account what you've done in ME1. It has his flaws but it also has a lot of things going on for it that are great (some better than ME2 IMHO)! Don't skip it =)

And damn... I wan't DOTA2 ='(

Honestly I don't think the Mass Effect textures make enough of a difference to be worth all the effort it takes to put them in. The only thing I'm eager to change is Garrus' face in ME1.

The quality on the bodies is the biggest thing for me. Side by side the difference is huge in my opinion. ME2's muddy low res textures on characters was a real downer.

I couldn't tell ya honestly, what with it being a beta and a lot of the visual settings missing as of yet. Though I doubt that it won't be able to scale amazingly well, especially considering the mass market they're aiming for.

I tried these mods before and remember that it took forever to load the game and had a massive performance hit. Is this still the case?
