US PoliGAF 2012 | The Romney VeepStakes: Waiting for Chris Christie to Sing…

2010 will still be more telling than his 2011 returns, although he may have still been finagling his taxes a year ago as well in preparation for a presidential run.

All that said, his dad's openness about tax returns is a huge outlier (unfortunately for Romney that it was his own dad). Most candidates are only "obligated" to release their most recent returns, and the pressure on Romney to release a bunch of them is really just to nail him on some uncomfortable facts in them.

If Romney becomes nominee I expect Dem activists to mount a big campaign educating America about Mormonism. DUM DUM DUM DUM DUMB.

that'd be dumb. All religion is stupid. Sure, Mormonism is a bigger scam than usual, but when you get right down to it and start analyzing the facts, all religion is built on absurdities beyond count.

That'd just open Obama to a huge backlash.

Yeah, because that's what the Dems need, the appearance of being anti-Religion. That'll win everything.

If Romney wins, 100% of the attacks will be about his career and his riches, that's all.

I imagine that Newt Gingrich has filled Santorum's voicemail inbox this morning with messages of himself begging Santorum to drop out. If Santorum will drop out soon and Gingrich can muster up enough money to get him to Super Tuesday, I think he has a shot.
Pretty sure Newt already guaranteed Santorum on his ticket after SC. It's up to Santorum to decide whether he wants a VP slot or simply continue gunning for presidency.

What a shitball ticket all around. Authenticity, electability, likability, use of female genitalia.

Agreed. It'll be a Gingrich/Santorum ticket.

Gingrich covers the "Angry pompous old man" trait while Santorum draws in the evangelicals.

The rule is pretty simple. The more recent a religion is, the more inauthentic it is. Imagine if we applied that standard to science.

Newt doesn't wanna be a president. He knows he has tons of baggage that will destroy him. Newt just wants Newt time so he can sell more books, make more conserva documentaries and other stupid shit. That's why he won't select a "moderate" VP for the independent vote or whatever.

Registered Voters In SC: 28% Black. Voters In SC Republican Primary: 99% White.

Andrew Sullivan: CHECK THIS OUT: In a state where African-Americans make up 28 percent of the electorate ... what an indictment of a party that in a diverse state, 99 percent of the voters were white.

More like an indictment of how wrong black people are. Voting against their own interests. Don't they know the republican party will give every African American a set of bootstraps and clearly written pull up instructions?

I have missed the comedy relief of a good series of biden gaffes. Biden santorum debate would be one epic stream of hilarity.

Jason Sudeikis' Biden almost makes up for the terrible Armisen Obama. Makes me wonder if Jay Pharoah could do a better Obama, he's the best mimic they've had for a decade.

I mean yeah I agree in a sense, but it's just really quibbling over details... all religions when you get right down to it have iron solid beliefs in truly insane stuff. That's why Obama would never go down that road, attacking someone's faith. One, it's hypocritical considering what he believes in. And two, this country is built on freedom to practice whatever religion one chooses, so it actually would be an attack on core American principles. Bad idea for a country that half believes Obama is a anti-American communist from Kenya.

This country was also founded on the idea that freedom to believe what you want doesn't make your belief's above criticism, nor are you entitled to never hear criticism about your beliefs. Calling out religious people is one of the most American things I can imagine.

Sure, you can make criticism about a belief. But how would that in any way be relevant to a presidential race, considering the absurd shit all presidential candidates must pretend to believe in just in order to have a shot at the White House?

To most Americans, it'd just seem like a dogged attack on someone's freedom to believe whatever he wants and it'd have no relevance to the issues of the day.

Obama would be smokin' crack to run an attack ad against his Mormonism.

And a totally winning general election practice.

First time EVER for the GOP (according to what I heard on the Politico show last night)

what? There is always a NH primary for GOP or Democrate (depending on if the President is running for reelection). Last election McCain won the GOP nomination in NH. So how is this the first time?

It shouldn't be political suicide to be an atheist.

Ok, while we're on the topic of "I wish the world was this way", I'd like kate upton to start responding to my letters. I thought we were talking about what would actually be a good strategy to pursue in a general election.

While we're at it, let's start ridiculing those ridiculous jewish beliefs as a way to gain political advantage, do it to the muslims, and the hindus as well. That's be a brilliant way to gain voters as a party or elected official.

Angry internet atheist teens...winning elections all over the world.

Dude, cry some more. Some of us are sick of our leaders believing things for absolutely no reason and against all reason to the contrar.
Start with that filthy illogically anti science christian obama and his theist extremist running mate biden!!!!

Also, my response was correcting someone stating that questioning others religious beliefs is anti-american. Had he said that it would be seen as anti-american by the populace, I wouldn't have responded. If you actually bothered reading, you'd understand that you illiterate git.

I've called out Obama's religious beliefs plenty of time. Its pretty depressing that the "best" option is still an abominable choice.

You sound mad.

Tell me this: Why does it matter? If Obama believed in a flying spaghetti monster, why would his belief be any more wrong than yours? Prove that it doesn't exist!

Here's how badly Newt bit Romney last night. This paragraph really sums it up and hits the nail on the head.
Take a gander at the exit polls if you like—they really are quite something. What they show is that Gingrich beat Romney soundly across the board: 42-26 with men and 38-29 with women; by nine or more points in every age cohort; by double digits in every educational cohort except those voters with postgraduate study (which Romney won by a bare two points); among both married and unmarried voters; among the poor, the middle class, and the rich; among Republicans and independents; among the very conservative and the somewhat conservative, losing only (by just five points) among self-described moderates or liberals; among tea party backers, God-squadders, Protestants and Catholics; among those most concerned about beating Barack Obama, about being a true conservative, and about having the right experience for the job of president; among late deciders and early deciders, and especially dramatically among those for whom the debates were important.

NOW we're about to go into bad territory into this topic I'm sure. It's fine to discuss whether attacking a person's faith should be fair game in a general election, but this is about to turn into 101 reasons why Christian faiths are dumb and that's going to do nobody any favors. They are dumb, but there are like four theist v. atheist topics on the last five pages of OT right now so...

"What's wrong" with Obama's faith is the same as what's wrong with people of any faith, which is the point. Nobody should go there and start attacking another's faiths, they are ALL based on absurd beliefs that no rational person could truly believe in with even a moments soul searching.

How is it relevant in the general election, though? Well, IF the religious faith is impacting policy, then it's a problem. I don't see that's the case for Obama, for the most part. With a Santorum, I'd be worried. With Romney, eh, I doubt it'd matter much.

I meant first time ever that 3 different candidates won Iowa, NH and SC

Obama would be smokin' crack to run an attack ad against his Mormonism.

It would probably turn off more Obama supporters than anything. Anyone who hates Mormons hates Kenyan muslims as well lol.

Also, do people really think Obama would stoop to that level? Say what you want about the guy but I don't see him authorizing any bigoted attack ads

Absolutely zero chance. He wouldn't give a fuck about that when there's plenty of other legitimate angles to attack from.

He probably has plenty of those supporters, so why would he risk pissing those people off?
