Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

If it plays like Red Steel 2 the HELL YES with a cherry on top please!

Edit: Shin Johnpv knows what I'm talking about!

Since the focus with Wii U is the tablet controller, it probably won't. It'll probably like a more traditional shooter.

That's not to say that a Red Steel 3 wouldn't be welcome. 2 was a great game.

I just don't see this 2011 port fest to the WiiU that some people are talking about.
Most are 2012 cross platform titles. I dont see the point of bringing titles from last year when there are so many titles that can be ported from this year. Why would publishers shoot themselves in the foot spending money on older titles?

2011 Ports:
Batman: AC

New titles 2012:
Aliens: CM
Assassin's Creed
Darksiders 2
Dirt
Dragon Quest
F1
Killer Freaks
Lego City
Metro: LL
Ninja Gaiden 3
pCars
Tekken
Ghost Recon Online
Marvell Pinball
Sonic
Rabbids

New games possible/probably coming to WiiU
RE:6
GTA5
CoD
Battlefield

Down the road:
No More Heroes
Project Nova
THQ game 1
THQ game 2
Sega (All Star Racing?)
Ubisoft multi-sports game

For some reason I came across this video from CES and if you skip to 2:40 the journalist ask if the demo being shown(Zelda) is 1080p, Reggie answers it is. What do you think? Is it native or is it upscaled and is Reggie just talking business, not hardware?

I think/hope UBI will do Red Steel 3. The first one got (inexplicably) a good hype, and second one got good reviews. Makes sense if they make a third (last?) attempt with this franchise.

They need to change the tone again. Make it sci-fi or something. Maybe with starships and "laser" swords.

Maybe, I don't know, haven't played the first two RS. Just to say, they changed pretty much everything from 1 to 2, this doesn't looks like the franchise have it's own pacing. Could have been two differents games, like... Street Fighter II and Street Fighter 2010! :)

But what makes you think Chase Mii would be an effective thing? From what Nintendo showed us. Which of these do you think will be more effective.

Scenario 1:
The Wii U comes installed with popular board games like Chess, Othello, Checkers, Solitaire. You can play these games on your high definition television, or play them on your tablet while watching television. You can turn the tablet into a virtual chess board and play against your significant other. Or perhaps you play poker/checkers/ etc online while watching the giants game.

Scenario 2:
Chase Mii or Battle Mii are shovelwared into the system like "AR Games" and Face Raiders were on the Nintendo 3DS.

Now. Both scenarios. Which do you think will have more overall appeal? Which will become an everyday thing? Which might actually be the smartest blue ocean strategy ever for Nintendo?

The second.

Look, I think Nintendo will bundle in a variety of games, almost certainly including something like Othello or Solitaire, but they'll need a multiplayer game like Chase Mii in there, too.

There are, as I see it, basically three reasons to include pack-in games:

1. To act as a selling point for the system (eg. Wii Sports, Super Mario Bros)
2. As a bonus for people buying the system anyway (eg. AR Games, Face Raiders)
3. To act as a conduit for people who bought the system to advertise it to their friends (eg. Wii Sports, potentially Chase Mii)

Nintendo won't want to do no. 1 with the Wii U, as they're trying to target a broader audience this time, and a highly promoted pack-in will define the audience of the console from that point on (like Wii Sports did).

Games like Othello and Solitaire serve purpose number two. They're a nice bonus, but nobody's going to buy a $350-$400 console for them.

The third reason is what Nintendo should really be targeting this time. By including an intuitive, enjoyable multiplayer game with the console, it ensures that there's a reason to take it out when you're having a party or have friends over. In doing so, you're effectively advertising the Wii U to your friends. This is a very under appreciated aspect of Wii Sports success, and while I of course don't expect Chase Mii to be anywhere near as successful as Wii Sports, I do think it'll be a lot more successful in this way than many people give it credit for.

USB 2.0 is decent for flash drives, would be rather slow for a hard drive

You are correct - especially as far as sustained transfer rates go. A typical 5400rpm 2.5inch hard drive (checked the spec sheet on a WD BEVS) is going to produce about twice the sustained throughput that USB2 is going to be able to handle.

I'm still going to keep with my belief that Nintendo is going to stick to USB and SD for hard drives in the coming generation. I'd even go so far as saying that they're correct as far as a cost/benefit analysis goes for the design changes given that it's mostly going to be forum monkeys like us would bother.

It would be not THAT bad.
But the main problem for N is that, apart form the lists, they should start from the beginning to assure that Wii U could and will have:

All the main multiplatform titles developed for PS360
A decent number of Exclusive titles from third parties
A decent number of Exclusive titles from first and second parties

And among them:

A good amount of titles that show the actual graphic power of the console
A good amoount of titles that show the interesting ideas of the tablet-pad

Otherwise there will be too many reasons to skip the system at least for awhile.

At this point, I don't see how they couldn't do it. If they didn't include it, it would kill developer support for the Wiimote instantly, meaning no local multiplayer would be possible.

What kind of logic is this, King? Even without being a pack-in, Wii Remotes will be required for all local multiplayer titles. That category of gaming is not going to just disappear, especially w/ games like Mario Kart, NSMB, SSB, etc. 4 player Madden or PES will require the Wii Remotes even if 2 tablets are supported.

On the other hand, packing in the Wii Remote+ w/ Wii U in no way guarantees support for that control scheme in primarily single player games. Everyone knows that Wii U is all about that pad and that's what developers are eager to play around with.

In sum, I believe the outcome will be the same either way, and I don't want to pay extra for shit I already have.

:'(

You're probably right. It depends on whether Nintendo wants to support it as a primary controller. For one I think FPSes will benefit massively (massively!) from having the Wiimote. Motion games like Skyward Sword would as well.

I really want the Wiimote to stay because its potential is so heavily underused. They could update the Wiimote with a better gyro and a rechargeable battery. Unfortunately I can't think of any business reason why Nintendo should do it :(

You know what would be amazing?
Rocksteady has been very excited about the Wii U, and EA is making huge pushes with Nintendo.
They're both coming.
And I really doubt that Skyrim won't make it.

Just sayin, but I heard that Batman AC's port is actually handled by WB Montreal. If Rocksteady is doing something for Wii U, it's probably something else.

I really like the Wii Remote for FPS games as well, although it took devs a while to get things right w/ the boundary box and everything. Only a few developers really nailed it, and here's to hoping those who did continue to support the device. Multiple controls schemes should not be that difficult to implement for those few developers who know how to best use the remote.

Remember that promo video for Ghost Recon Online. I believe the girl in that video was using the Wii Remote to play even though she was the only one at her location. The Wii Remote is still their most casual friendly controller.

As for a new one...I think they'll revamp it and expand its functionality, but I'm currently thinking Nintendo will wait until around the time of the next Kinect to debut it (admittedly my theories regarding Wii U are quite fluid). I predict MS will launch the new Xbox next year, but the next Kinect won't come until later, maybe 2014. That way, MS can pull the same shit Nintendo is pulling: make you feel better about shelling out $400 because your old Wii Remote/Kinect will still work with it.

I have three wiimotes, two can be used for motion plus games. I guess having another one would be good.

its not that, i also have 4 wiimotes with one being the zelda one, and also the wiimote motion plus x2. The thing is if they dont put one there then developers will not support it..

Yeah, but I was just talking about my own wiimotes. I'm sure many Wii owners only have 2 wiimotes (I have 3 due to the Zelda bundle), so having another wiimote+ bundled with the Wii U would benefit consumers.

Having a Wiimote+ and nunchuk may drive the price $50 higher though, to $399 if the Wii U is $349.

yes the nunchuck i doubt they will put it there...

The very idea of including 2 totally different kinds of controllers with a system is ridiculous lol. I can't even begin to entertain the idea. I know some people enjoyed their Wiimote, you were free to. But Nintendo is pushing the UPad next generation. I seriously can't see a reason why the remote would be anything other than an optional accessory.

WiiU
UPad
some pack in
cables

the end.

Just like the Wii, Nintendo expects you to buy a second controller before you start your Wii U party.
Don't see how it will be any different. Wii Sports was quite successful, but if you just bought a Wii, you could only play by yourself.

Bowling and Golf could be played with one controller and the only game I ever saw people playing in Wii Sports was Bowling, even if they had more than one controller.

Oh come on. Thats all third party. Thats pretty good for any system launch.

I disagree with the first one premise. WiiU should start seperating itself from the old gen. as soon as possible.

Exclusives will make it come into its own. It should have fresh games. Usher in the new gen. Games that the PS360 cannot pull off. Though, in the first year, a number of PS360 ports will help with growing pains.

because its superior to dual analog??

Correct, but the fact they trailed a Wii U Golf concept which requires both the pad and remote makes me go hmm.
While it would be great if they include the wiimote, it would probably be rebranded as a Wii U remote plus and a separate accessory because Nintendo wants to keep the price low.

and you can think that all you want, no one is saying that is wrong or right. I'm just saying it makes little to no sense to put it in the box with the WiiU. It's ridiculous to have 2 completely different controllers in one console. This is a new generation, the UPad is their new direction. I'm sure games will still support the remote, but it will most likely always remain optional.

And also to the people that think it will make developers support it more if it were packed in, do you honestly believe that? Developers will always take the easy route, and the easy route is traditional controls.

Isn't the Wiimote + necessary to play multiplayer games? If it was to remain optional they would have treated it like the GC pad, not place it in most of the Wii U videos shown at E3.

Some games with MP will probably requite wiimotes or whatever other solutions they come up with, and those people who are interested in it can go buy a remote. I'm not suggesting they take it out of stores. For gods sake consoles don't even come with HDMI cables this generation lol. Just because games could use it, doesn't mean it will be in the box.

Could it be in the box? Yes, anything can happen with Nintendo. Alls I'm saying is it makes little sense. It will be pretty cheap anyway by then, people can just pick one up if they want. For all we know that's how they plan to recoup some of the loss from hardware sales. Accessories!

If they're considering selling the console at a loss, what makes people think there's going to be a pack-in game/additional controller? I'd say even something the magnitude of Wii Sports is out of the question, since they now know (they didn't before Wii launched) that they can sell it separately and people will buy in the millions. If anything, bundle a Wii Remote with that.

They're not going to pack in free games and controllers if the system is costly for them to manufacture. It's just not realistic. They only got away with that for Wii because a)the system was cheap to make, and Nintendo was profiting off of it, and b)Americans NEEDED something to justify a $250 console (Nintendo's most expensive to date) with last gen graphics.

They should have a bunch of demos (1st and 3rd party) and a fully operational eShop at launch to encourage more people to buy shit online.

If there is any accessory less needed to be packed in than the Wii Remote? Do you guy realize how many have already been sold? And i highly doubt the dude bro shooter who loves playing CoD with his friends on live has reason for local multiplayer. The families that already bought a wii are set.

I would have thought the only reason a Wiimote is not included will be down to retailers requesting it to not be, so they can upsell it.

GTA 5?

No.

Lego City Stories.

Yes.
It would be possible for GTA 5 to come to the Wii U, especially if it's fairly easy to port to it from the 360 version. It could showcase what the Nintendo Network's capabilities as well, if it plans on doing some online MP.

given that gtav will likely have a smartphone based menu system like iv, it would be cool if a wii u version took advantage of that.

I just hope they incorporate an optical audio output =/
Also get rid off screen tearing for most games, they should force 3rd parties to release games without that problem.
Also a good SD/HD converter for Wii games.

Nintendo forcing (or trying to force) third parties to do anything would be the quickest way to lose them.

I don't know much about audio stuff, but I just have my home theater connected to my TV via optical cable. This way I can use my home theater speakers and sub when I use my TV, Xbox, and Bluray player. Is there something that I should be aware of by doing this instead of connecting optical cables into each of my devices?

S/PDIF doesn't have the bandwidth for uncompressed six channel audio. Nintendo would need to add Dolby or DTS encoding, which means worse quality at a higher price. Won't happen. Might as well stick with ProLogic for those who have old surround receivers.

...of the Rocksteady Studios' rumored game. It actually didn't become my decision anymore, but rather yours, alongside my site's audience through comments and e-mails, and whatever else popped up on the net regarding the story. I'm happy to share it with you, but please, just take it as a rumor. I wouldn't say "grain of salt" rumor, but this isn't like Title Fight. With Title Fight and past content I've put up, if I say it's fact, it is. I can't confirm this one and am just sharing it because you wanted it and because I personally "hope" it's true.

I'm sure there is probably a lot of info in the previous thread that isn't in this one, but to be clear, is it safe to assume that WiiU looks to be using a 4000 series Radeon equivalent from what is known?
