I think of The Witcher 2 as the valedictorian of its class.

Mass Effect is the kid who goes to school in a cape.

If we're going further with the analogy, Call of Duty is the jock who'll be fat and alone in twenty years. I dunno.

Dragon Age is the kid who changed a lot over the summer and keeps trying to get the cool kids to like him.

So is Skyrim the idiot savant?

Hm. Skyrim I'd say is a nice popular kid with a twitch. He's friends with a lot of groups, changes his style to match theirs, but every once in a while his tourette's flares up and he starts kicking himself and clapping his hands.

By doing the same thing over and over again and not realizing he's just annoying them, yes.

This is Bioware's go-to for stories.

Maybe the most remarkable thing about Mass Effect is how unremarkable it is. I can't think of a single other sci-fi story that is as generic in every way.

Humans are special, remnants of a lost civilization, ancient evil, parental issues, and so on.

Everything is a cliche. Corrupt bar owner, tortured psychic, hottie with a secret past... the list goes on and on. It's a bunch of cardboard cutouts putting on a song and dance.

The only character that really sticks out to me is Thane. He's got that old "existential hitman" personality, but at least his backstory involves living alongside sentient, mega-brained jellyfish.

IN OTHER NEWS:

I finally started Dark Souls on my 360. I've only played it briefly at my brother's place and hadn't noticed before how poorly it performs. I'm hoping performance improves once it's installed, because it gets literally nauseating due to frame rate fluctuations. Like I'm on a choppy boat.

Skyrim is the STD riddled chick who fucks on the first date and has a severe distaste for rubbers
why is it this made me want to play

Skyrim is that popular girl in school who everybody loves but anyone who really gets to know her will know there's nothing more about her other than looks.
so wrong

so right

We don't need a thread to share our bromance communicate anymore.

Your move, HP.

Mass Effect is like this for me... a lot of the time. I just assumed it was because my 360 sounds like it's about to die most of the time. This is why I don't buy 360 games anymore, I'm too scared of it ACTUALLY dying. My first one already RROD, and it was a bitch to get them to replace it since it's a Japanese console. Their first replacement was a PAL one. I was like, I can't use this! The next two--yes two--were US region consoles. Finally the fourth console they sent me was Japanese. I actually ended up with three consoles at one point:

Never again. I really need to finish up all my 360 games so I don't have to worry about it dying... :/ Every time I start it up it feels like a gamble.

Also cookies! Chocolate chip, peanut butter, whatever your taste we will have them available!

Low blow.

Heh. All part of the master plan.

And kittens and puppies and bacon and...

So, are you volunteering to make that thread?

We'll have to check with the mods, of course, but I feel like it's Sentry's baby next. We could celebrate with Ezalc's idea of a Love Stache theme.

I'm currently on my 3rd 360. My second one died outside of warranty so had to pay money to have it repaired. That annoyed me actually because we all know the reason it died is more than likely the result of a design fault. The fact was, I wasn't using my 360 all that much at the time. It could've died earlier if I spent more time on it.

I'm certainly not buying the next Xbox day one, that's for sure.

I'm scaroused.

Interesting word. lol

I think I'm older than you, too, Ashes. :P
I'm 29, so you're not too much older than me. :p

You know, I'm trying to land a job in the industry as a reviewer, which is essentially a public thing, anyway. Might as well leave my real pic up. It might help people feel like they know me a little easier.

I know if this one fails I'm certainly not replacing it. The Western games I have on it have PC versions, so that's no big deal... it just sucks about the Japanese games :/ Not that any of them are really any good. I think the only one that I haven't finished that I couldn't play elsewhere is... Infinite Undiscovery. Yeah, okay I'm not that sad after all.

lol

The name of that game always makes me laugh. Only a japanese developer could come up with a title like that. Imagine if the game literally played the way the title suggests.

You're basically walking around a white map that goes on forever with absolutely nothing in it. Nothing to discover. :D

That sounds like some sort of art game.

Trying to decide if I'd want it or not...

No, no I don't.

Today is my birthday, RP-GAF :D

I have a migraine though. But that's okay, because I was turning ladies' heads constantly today for some reason...

Plenty of nice bullet hells to play. O: Although you'd need a Japanese system to play all of them.

Happy Birthday sir! Good luck with your snapping females necks.

Happy birthday!

Screw jrpgs. If it ain't on steam I don't care.

Awww, don't be like that!

Actually I'm kind of not interested in playing JRPGs as much these days, not even the older ones... I don't hate them, I guess I'm just not in the mood to play that sort of thing right now.

I DO have a Japanese system! That was my issue with Xbox Support. But I can't play bullet hells for the life of me. I can't even get passed one level in one. Zero reflex skills here.

So you like the Last Remnant?
I don't like it, I love it.

Played the demo, meh

Whenever I get in the mood to play a jrpg with cheesy cutscenes, terrible acting, animesque characters, and grinding on the same mobs I just slam my head against the table until I feel like playing an actual game.

I've been craving to do another runthrough of Persona 4 though.

I've only had one Japanese 360 for my bullet hells and Bayonetta. It got stolen before it got to break though so feels bad anyways.

Did they know it was a Japanese system when they stole it? If not: haha (though many US region games will play on one... too bad it doesn't work the other way around.)

Considering how many things I have in Japanese I figure if anything gets stolen at least I can get that jab in.

I'm not sure! I'd be happier if more US games didn't work on it.

They also grabbed my copy of Steins;Gate that was in the system at the time so that's about $100 down the drain along with it. x; I still have all my other 360 games though since I kept those in my room instead of the living room although most are useless without a JP region 360.

Sometimes those things can be fun! Especially when they're so bad it becomes awesome again...

Actually at the moment I want to play adventure games more than anything. I have bunches of those, but I've played them all already...

Happy official birthday, SRG01!

Miss anything this weekend? Nope? Good.

Whaaat? You missed...uh, Sentry getting drunk (or roofied) and an RP TinyChat takeover! There were also pictures of frogs posted (was that this weekend...?).

Basically, this. :lol

Don't lie. You got drunk. :)

>_>
...
<_<

i feel violated

Ah don't feel bad, I got so drunk last night I told a random girl that I was going to go find food to feed the baby birds that built a nest in her hair. Her response?

Are you single?
My response? Yes.
Her Response: I can see why.

lmao.

Yeah, that probably was not the best thing to say!

The only time I remember chatting with random strangers when I was drunk I began bitching about ridiculousness of art school and high art pretensions in general.

I'm sure they found it fascinating.
