So far we can only judge the launch of the WiiU by third party efforts:
Announced games most likely within the launch window:
Aliens: CM
Assassin's Creed
Batman: AC
Battlefield
Darksiders 2
Dirt
Dragon Quest
F1
Killer Freaks
Lego City
Metro: LL
Ninja Gaiden 3
pCars
Tekken
Ghost Recon Online
Marvell Pinball
Sonic
Unannounced games within the window:
RE:6
GTA5
CoD
Now earlier some of you mentioned that Nintendo needed to come out with at least 3 of their own titles to be valued at $349. That worries me, because If this line up was for the Xbox3, I think many would be doing back-flips and praising this as the best launch ever, and you would be gladly dropping $399 for it... again.
Now add in possible Nintendo titles.
A core/mature title from possibly Retro or Monolith
A mainstream title like Mario
A bridge title from any of the 2nd party developers
A tech title like WiiSports
With so many games possibly coming out for 2012
I think Nintendo will definitely bring the console out earlier so that third parties
can space out their titles and not directly compete with Nintendo. This is situation is not like the 3DS. There are plenty of different types of games to satisfy a wide variety of consumers.
Down the road:
No More Heroes
Project Nova
THQ game 1
THQ game 2
Sega (All Star Racing?)
Ubisoft hardcore FPS
Ubisoft multi-sports game
I wonder if Nintendo could/should have another go at the Ambassadors' Program, gifting early buyers with classic games, regardless of the Wii U's sales performance. Could be a nice incentive for some, and a cool bonus at any rate. What do you guys think?
I was just talking about this a couple of posts above, but yeah I agree.
I was actually joining your Ambassadors' discussion, only following it with classic games, which you didn't mention. Should have made myself clearer, good sir.
Why not?

That seems like a great launch line up.
Looks like a savage wallet-raping to me.
business meeting could give us an idea of when to expect more WiiU Info because you can bet some investors will be inquiring
Seems really optimistic to me.
dragon quest at launch? hmmm ...It reads like an optimisted $500 out of my wallet at least. Plus the cost of the console. I'm totally going to need to pull a CheapAssGamer this year to make it through.

I'm fully expecting these titles to have been cancelled or for them to skip on to the next iteration in the franchise:
Assassin's Creed
Batman: AC
Battlefield
Dirt
F1
Ninja Gaiden 3
Ghost Recon
If the likes of Arkham City etc do come out, they need to have extra content or Wii-U exclusive gameplay to justify purchases. Minimal efforts will result in crappy sales.
I wouldn't get hyped for this week's business meeting.
I wonder if Nintendo would be willing to try the Microsoft approach when it comes to pricing. As in, an attractive price for the console (taking a loss), and recuperating those losses through overpriced, proprietary bullshit. Harddrives, wifi and even online play.
Now, I'm 99.9999% sure Nintendo won't be charging for online play, or forcing you to pick up separate hardware in order to use wifi, but I think an (overpriced) proprietary harddrive that isn't included with the console could possibly happen. Think about how many Wii owners don't give a single fuck about things like harddrive space. How many people bought Wii just for Wii Sports, Just Dance or Wii Fit, and nothing more? Why jack up the price on the console when they could keep it at $250 or $299, without a harddrive. The hardcore gamers are suckers, and would buy a separate 120GB harddrive in an instant (I know I would).
I thought Assassin's Creed was already going to be diff than any game that has come out so far.I'm fully expecting these titles to have been cancelled or for them to skip on to the next iteration in the franchise:
Assassin's Creed
Batman: AC
Battlefield
Dirt
F1
Ninja Gaiden 3
Ghost Recon

Hopefully publishers have kept track of Nintendo's advised launch and managed their projects accordingly. I think we will probably see big games from big franchises in Holiday 2012, certainly the likes of RE6 and a Call of Duty style game. I have absolutely no idea what Nintendo has in mind as a flagship launch title, and that's just pretty damn exciting, frankly.

My gut says Assassin's Creed will be canceled, a port, or a patched-together-reused-assets title.
They can't even get their mainline games up to quality these days. I doubt a Wii U exclusive, if it still exists, will be something they spend any time on.
^^ I'm not actually hyped at all. The best I expect is a Nintendo Direct video with a couple of tidbits, or a neat slip of information about their plans for Wii-U reveals in the runup to E3.
Was this quote posted from the Nintendo Network rumours?
What does that make you guys think?
The only thing I can kinda think of is cross-game chat... or new clocks or something.
Of those games, I think Batman is the least likely to be cancelled despite its age and could actually end up selling the best. It's a strong license and licensed games have traditionally sold very well over time on Nintendo platforms. Nintendo and WB have a deal with Lego City Stories, so I expect WB to fully support the system and Batman is the best thing they've got going.I thought Assassin's Creed was already going to be diff than any game that has come out so far.
Batman, I agree with.
Battlefield.
When is Ninja Gaiden 3 out? And when has it stopped them? They are porting a port to the Vita for launch. So can see em doing the same with the Wii U.
And isn't Ghost Recon already a unique version?
No idea if they'll actually do that. At most I think they'll change the design, but not the name.
If it were up to me I'd change both.
It needs to keep the Wii name so as to keep the new gamers the Wii attracted. Unlike the 3DS, the Wii-U has a very major obvious difference from its previous generation: the new controller. Whereas Nintendo's crappy marketing made people think the 3DS was just a DS with 3D added, the Wii-U is at worst going to look like a Wii with a whole new control scheme, and one that isn't sold separately so people won't be confused and think they can buy just the controller.I do think they should drop the Wii name though and give the new
system it's own identity. I can see it causing confusion with mom
and dads/consumers thinking it's "just another Wii".

And why do these people not think that Wii U is just a Wii with a U connected?
But that's the selling point - the new controller. It cannot be purchased any other way, so if casual gamers want to play Wii-U Feelsports (or whatever), they'll need the new console. And why do these people not think that Wii U is just a Wii with a U connected?
Oh come on. Thats all third party. Thats pretty good for any system launch.
Thats not first or second party.
I disagree with the first one premise. WiiU should start seperating itself from the old gen. as soon as possible.
Exclusives will make it come into its own. It should have fresh games. Usher in the new gen. Games that the PS360 cannot pull off. Though, in the first year, a number of PS360 ports will help with growing pains.
But that's the selling point - the new controller. It cannot be purchased any other way, so if casual gamers want to play Wii-U Feelsports (or whatever), they'll need the new console.
Nintendo already said that if a third-party developer decided to make a game using two Wii-U controllers, one Wii-U owner would have to take their controller to another Wii-U owner's house.Hmm... I don't think the Wii U should support a second tablet then. If buying the new console was the only way to get the controller, they wouldn't assume the "Wii U" was just a controller.
People are going to think it's just a controller, at least for a while.
Don't know how many people thought the Kinect was a new console, if any.
Gonna be alot of confused people when they think they'll
be able to plug in the new touch controller to their Wii.
Especially with the heavy marketing Nintendo is sure to do
with it.
A simple name change to give the system it's own identity
will do wonders for it.

I feel like people overstate how dumb consumers might be. Yes there might be confusion now, but the dam thing isn't out! The education marketing process hasn't even begun. It all hinges on a game/software/experience and some way or another, whether they walk into the store looking for it, research online, or get a recommendation from a friend, they learn the Wii U is a different beast.
