Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Shenmue is garbage. It was ok when it came out on the Dreamcast but the gameplay does not hold up. I have a few friends who love the shit out of that game... I can't understand why... And I hold that game responsible for quick time events. Fuck that.

Metal Gear Solid sucks ass. Hideo Kojima should never ever come near anything story/plot related again. That guys stuff is below fanfic level.

While I liked the gameplay in Bayonetta I hated everything else about that game. Embarrassing characters and story.

I actually like Battlefield 3 Singleplayer. I'm usually not bothered by short campaigns when the game is reasonably priced. I can also enjoy totally scripted shooters with monster closets if the game flows decently. Medal of Honor 2010 is an example of that. The few times I died was because I wasn't paying attention, other than that it was nice, short and to the point.

ico and shadow of the colossus are both terrible games. Not sure why I thought the HD remakes of these would be anything more than shined up turds.

Ico is a boring tale of a dude that has to drag some bitch around the entire game or for at least the 3 hours I played. The boring repetitive combat and the terrible controls are still present from the old version I remember.

Shadow of the Colossus holy crap it's like ico without a girl add a horse. Let's see the first hour of the this game was spent trying to figure out how to get past the flat surfaced mountain the game wanted me to be on the other side of. The controls on the horse leave quite a bit to be desired. And wow what innovations I have to hold up a sword and it points me in the direction of areas I cannot pass. STUPID.

I picked this double pack up thinking I could play these with my niece who's into princesses and ponies. She couldn't have stated it better after watching me try to get around the mountain on Shadow, uncle jax this is boring. Yes...yes it is.

I was extremely excited about GTAIV. It took me literally YEARS to decide I didn't like it. And that was after being stuck on the same missions for a year.

I love the characters you meet right away: Niko and Roman and Brucie and Jacob, but the characters become bland and boring the further you go along. The city is beautiful and there's quite a bit to do, though it doesn't feel as fun or open or as much of a time waster as RDR.

The vehicle handling and the awkward character controls are what do it in. Seriously, they don't feel more realistic. At all. They feel like someone removed the cars' shocks and weakened the brakes. The character runs awkwardly which I blame on Euphoria and which was mostly fixed with RDR, though John still controls awkwardly at times.

I just don't like it because:

1) by the time I got to the second island, I didn't care enough about the story to proceed
2) getting into a car was a chore and I spent more time worrying about how fast I was going and whether I'd be able to break without spinning out or rolling instead of watching the road in front of me or looking for my target.

I agree with everything you said except I actually did like how the cars handled. I got that some rush of adreniline when I got a real bitchin' car just like I did in PS2 GTA's. The terrible on foot controls and graphics engine are what killed the game for me.

The hell it was. It's an abomination of a Resident Evil. Every time I see someone defending it as "the best", when it was either their only or first, I want to slaughter a sack of puppies.

And Leon sucks. His return for 6 is part of why I have zero interest in it. Let everyone get all hyped up. The series has been dead since Zero released. I'm going to continue to wait for a real Resident Evil 4. It'll probably never come.

It's the best by far, and I've played all of them except for the Outbreak and handheld games.

I can accept that you played the others prior and still liked 4 the most. In instances such as this, it's more symptomatic of genre preference than anything having to do with the game's objective quality.

I really don't see too many straight horror fans that prefer an action oriented game with an overemphasis on shooting everything that moves.

Well thank ya, I chose it for a reason. :)

you got your "real" resident evil 4, it was code veronica and it was terrible.

wrap it up fixed camerailures *rides off into objectively best game ever sunset with RE4: Objectively Best RE Game*

...code veronica...it was terrible.

This doesn't parse.

Resident Evil 4 is hands down one of the best games ever made, and it revamped a series that needed some change. HOWEVER, the only reason it worked so well was because Mikami was involved. Capcom needs to get back to the survival aspect of survival horror, instead of trying to emulate an admittedly masterful third person shooter. RE4 did more damage to RE as a series than even 0 did, but the blame lies with Capcom's reaction to it and not with the game itself.

A game in the survival horror vein of REmake but with RE4's control scheme would have had the potential to top even RE4 if it had been handled right.

Bags of puppies slaughtered: 2

Are you happy with yourself?

while you're slaughtering bags of puppies for cheap jump scares, i'm saving That Dog, who is a better and more fleshed out character than Chris Redfield or Wesker (the worst character in Resident Evil, and one that Code Veronica brought back in the worst decision in RE history)

Dual analog is the worst way to control shooters. Mouse and keyboard, the move controller, and the Wii remote are all better. Hell, Kinect would be better if you could hold a controller in one hand and aim by waving your other hand around.

It's the console equivalent of using the arrow keys to look around.

The best thing for Resident Evil is indeed co-op with partners. Yes RE5 messed up and the Socom spin-off is just that, but the idea is sound and fits survival horror.

Outbreak was such a partner game and worked, it's what 6 needs to learn from and improve on.

Your gramr is flawless, your hyperbole reigns supreme.

Has anybody lashed out against Treasure yet?

They're the best jack-of-all-trades master-of-none developer around. They have made a couple great games, but they have made far more that are either mediocre or simply decent. People that don't know a lot about 2D action games love to shout about how they're the best 2D action game developer. Go into a thread about an old 2D franchise being rebooted and, regardless of what the franchise is, you'll probably see a Treasure suggestion in there. Hell, it's even gotten to the point where they're given credit for games developed by entirely different development teams.

I've been saying this stuff since about 2006, but it hasn't changed at all.

Correction: Wesker is the best character in Resident Evil. He was also the best character in The Mercenaries.

I suppose that Pokemon Black and White have the worst designs in the history of Pokemon.
And not only that, almost everything besides the battling itself is inferior to the previous games.

Black and White is the only generation where I haven't memorized all the Pokemon names within the first 1-2 days. (I still don't know more than half their names)

I hate people that aren't educated on game development, yet judge it like they know whats best for the industry. If people understood how much hard work/money goes into the smallest things, I think they'd be more understanding. Then again, those people are probably too thick headed to care.

This is one of the simplest, yet most profoundly true statements I have seen on just about any video game forum.

I honestly think they've been some of the best for a long time. But i do agree there were forgettable designs. I hate that ice-cream line.

Fuck, I have to say this. Peoplr who hate Gears are bad at it. Period. They simply don't know how to play it. I can't blame them since its control scheme is kind of odd. Its not Halo, COD, Killzone or CS.

The controls are smooth and the visual and audio feedback is brilliant. Sure, the story is lame, but Gears isn't the kind of game you play for the plot to begin with.

Gears 3 is damn near perfect.

Not true for me, I got really good at the first gears but soon got tired of the similar formula. I don't like the feel/balance of the guns, I don't like the bulky characters. If they remade the same type of multiplayer with a more Vanquish feel, I might go back to it. Gears has okay mechanics, but it feels clunky and worn to me. Not to mention I hate the sprint in that game.

Not to mention Gears 3 MP is just mashing A to wallbounce and/or dodge while spamming a shotgun close range.

Dear Bethesda, do you know what a QA department is? Do you know what "allowing time to fix bugs" is?

Western RPGs will get some original, fun gameplay and NOT be game breaking bugfests? Probably not before JRPGs stop having androgynous characters and linear plots.

Chrome Hounds >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Armored Core

Earth Defense Force 2017>>>>>>EDF Insect Armageddon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All those Gears of Retarded Duty Shooty Games.

I laughed. Very nice.

..

And while on the topic of Bethesda games.. I really don't get the point of playing Elder Scrolls games on consoles. It'd be like.. masturbating without lube. Phhbt.

- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is the most all-around enjoyable game that Square(Soft/Enix) has ever made.

- Shinta Nojiri (Ghost Babel / AC!D 1 & 2) is better at writing Metal Gear stories than Hideo Kojima.

- Jurassic Park on SNES was better than Jurassic Park on Genesis.

I cannot stand Deus Ex 1. It feels like one of the world's clunkiest shooters, and the idea of choice is irrelevant when the underlying mechanics of a game are as broken as they are in this game. It's a shooty/stealth game with bad shooting and stealth. Deus Ex 2 and 3 are much better.

We found it. The worst post.

Okay, I understand liking HR more than the original. I feel the same way, even though 1 achieves more with the level design; mind I feel the first achieves more with the level design than almost all games period.

There's pretty much nothing good about IW though. Maybe the lighting, sometimes.

The Wii is the best home console of this generation.

I agree with this. So many top notch games and many games people just forget are good just because they're on the Wii. Sure there's a lot of games who are more suited for the more casual gamer, but there are a hell of a lot of good "gamer" games which don't involve beefed up space marines. Also, the games actually have colour unlike the HD generation so far which seems to be how many shades of brown and grey they can fit in a game.

So you're the one guy who claps at the end of every movie, no matter how terrible, because you know what's involved in actually getting the thing onto that screen? I mean, it's admirable and kind, but if you don't call out the quality of a final product for what it is, doesn't that insult someone's hard work just as much?

Would anyone truly prefer to be lied to and be cheated out of a chance to learn from their mistakes and possibly improve themselves? How much potential has been wasted over the years from people being told that they're all special snowflakes, and that good enough should be an acceptable goal?

Also, I can't think of any industry where workers are rewarded according to what they consider effort. People are compensated for what they know (or at least what a piece of paper says they know), and how much responsibility they bear, not how hard they work.

The only tangible praise a worker is likely to receive from a consumer for doing a consistent job is likely that of the consumer buying their product and the worker continuing to receive a paycheck; the only words usually ever spoken by a consumer towards any generalized worker is likely in the form of calling them lazy or stupid whenever something goes wrong with said product.

Perhaps it's not fair from a human standpoint, but what is? Perhaps it's irrelevant because everyone who works faces this every single day. People aren't understanding of each other's hard work because they are too busy having a shit Monday to care that the guy who didn't notice the rat get packaged in with the coffee grounds was having a bad Monday too, they just care that there's a fucking rat in the coffee. There's no doubt the man worked hard that week, there's no doubt he didn't get paid enough, there's no doubt he deserves to be acknowledged for his commitment, but he still let a fucking rat fall into the coffee.

...Wesker (the worst character in Resident Evil, and one that Code Veronica brought back in the worst decision in RE history)

Well, you got me there.

And then they put Wesker in MvC3!

Also, MvC3 may have the worst roster of characters in anything ever. Wesker? Modern Bionic Commando? That lady you see in a cutscene in DMC got a slot too? I guess Ultimate gave us Wright though.

I agree with this. But only in the right context. Like for freeware Indie development, it is frustrating to see people with no idea of "how the sausage is made" give a very shallow opinion of a amateur game that someone spent a lot of hard work on.

A consumer's opinion to another consumer are still valuable.

Portal 2 is better than Portal 1, and all the "it's just not the saaaame" opinions smack of people upset that their precious indie-in-spirit-but-AAA-developed title has been soiled by filthy mainstream things like a "concrete narrative" (ugghhh!!! language during gameplay in a videogame!!! haven't you plebes played Limbo, or Jonathan Blow's Braid!?) and "a whopping 6 hours of wonderfully paced gameplay" (uhhhh can you say bloated as hell???)
