But seriously, why is it that every President seems to spend half their time on vacation? Is it because the President doesn't actually do very much?

Clinton's total vacation days and Obama's so far have come out to about a month a year, which is a lot for most U.S. jobs but that's because U.S. vacation time is fucking horrible.

It's completely reasonable for the most stressful position in the world which can't have true "vacation days", anyway.

Bush took 180 vacation days in his first 31 months, and yeah... that's a lot. But I think that's more a symptom of a shitty president than the cause. He could have taken that many vacation days and not sucked, too.

Why didn't the Bush tax cuts create jobs, Newt?

9/11!!!!!!

Fuck me.

PS: North Dakota wouldn't be at 8-9% unemployment without the oil boom. But if there wasn't an oil boom there also wouldn't be a housing/infrastructure/law enforcement shortage in western North Dakota that is hurting the people who lived out there before the oil boom.

That's because NOBODY lives in North Dakota
Hey, I do.

A quick Google seems to confirm this. I must've confused vacation and golf.

Either argument is a poor one to make. It isn't like Bush was down on his ranch sleeping in until noon and drinking iced tea on his porch. Presidents don't get real time off. Obama probably worked more in Hawaii on his last vacation than the average person does while on the clock.

"THe bush tax cuts would have worked if it weren't for 9/11"

What isn't connected to 9/11 for these guys?

I'm surprised they haven't tried to connect welfare to 9/11.

Yeah Mitt, you've used that line already.

"Obama doesn't have a mission for NASA, I believe NASA's mission should be determined by a lot of people"

So...you don't have a mission either.

This administration has failed __________. President Obama has no plan for ____________ and has failed as a leader and has failed the people of ___________. My first act as president will be to repeal ___________ and implement ___________.

Manned spaceflight is absolutely idiotic and we shouldn't be wasting money on it.

You got a lot of hate for that. But I get it . . . robotic spaceflight is the best bang for the buck.

Unless we are actually looking toward creating a manned outpost somewhere like the moon or mars, manned spaceflight is pretty silly. It is hugely expensive for the mere vanity of having a human getting a fun space ride.

The private sector has zero reason to explore space - it's high cost, high risk, with little incentive. And yes, the government does do things better than the private sector. Health care and exploration are two of those things. The private sector comes in after the government's discovered something out there that will make it enough money to offset the R&D and risk. Then they come into play out of low earth orbit.

I'm quoting this for the new page just because I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, fuckin' hate that "private sector does everything better, always" horseshit, especially when it comes to NASA and space exploration.

Vanity? Thats a bit harsh for something that could inspire mankind.

The point is that there are no role models and icons of science in America. It's a country that worships shithead actors and musicians and athletes more than STEM and always has. That produces a culture full of anti-intellectual shitheads.

What America needs are some big science projects to get children excited about STEM again. That is a large part of NASA's role, but without manned space flight they can't produce the visible role models that spark the imagination of children.

...Robo Mitt...Robo Mitt.....Robo Mitt...

Why the hell is Romney pro-NASA? The private sector can do anything better than government. He should be for the private sector getting into space exploration.

Because the Florida primary is next. Duh.

The private industry isn't going to do dick in space outside of launch satellites and joyrides for the uberwealthy. And this fine. But NASA is still needed for space science which is not for profit.

I think the only clear thing to come out of this debate so far is that Santorum should drop out. Opinions seems to be split on Mitt's and Gingrich's performance tonight, but I generally agree that neither made such a huge mistake thus far that it's gonna cost them 20 points or anything. This is looking like it's gonna be a slugfest.

English immersion in schools in Massachusetts, how many non-native English speaking students are there in Massachusetts for that to make a noticeable difference in test performance?

Please don't hate me, but there are certain aspects to a happier crowd I miss. I'm not saying like the South Carolina Debates, but I like it when there is a little more enthusiasm.

No, Bush was clearing brush. Which is how rich New England transplants pretend to connect with good old boys.

PS, future presidents, clearing brush is not a good use of your time.

PPS Rick Perry, clearing signs from the front of your ranch is a good use of your time.

That's really just a question of marketing, then. The risk and expense of putting humans in space doesn't provide any significant advantages over what could be achieved with robotics.

"We balanced the budget every year."

Isn't that constitutionally required of you, Mitt?

I think 49 states have BBAs in one form or another. How many can say they actually did it, especially without raiding some other rainy day fund? Even the national debt rose while Clinton was running budget surpluses.

"When push came to shove, they got pushed!"

OK, that was a good line, Santorum suddenly highlighting some issues.

Romney's sneer looks so assholey though, each time I see it.
