Why can't his show just be about the old guy and his mountain? I've learned (and appreciated) more of the message from him in five minutes than I have in the first three episodes entirely.
There's much to be learned from the mountain, but some of it is quickly forgotten.

Another 03: Decided to give it a last shot. The show doesn't bore me to death anymore, and that cliffhanger at the end was effective enough. I guess I shall see how it pans out.

Nice girl's death was LOLtastic

Try turning off hardware acceleration in flash.
Nothing. :(
Only thing I can really suggest is that you try popping out the video player into a separate window on Firefox before going full screen and seeing if that helps at all.
This seems to have helped. Thanks! Although I still can't get it to work right on Chrome.

Another 03:

I'm sorry, if you are bored by this show then quite frankly you are entirely defective.

The infodump at the beginning was the same infodump from the very first scene in the anime, although I think it works much better here. They could have done without that introduction in episode 1, I'd say.

This episode was better paced than the previous two, and for once I felt like the atmosphere was genuinely engaging. It's just that everything before this episode was derivative as fuck. I am glad I am giving it another (get it? hur dur) chance.

Unico: Black Cloud and White Feather
25 minute long animated film about a mythical unicorn ridding the environment of evil smokestacks made by Tezuka Productions in 1979. Technically, it's a TV pilot for a series that never got off the ground, but the quality is well above average for an episode of a 70s children's TV show - though, to be frank, I have not seen a lot of 70s children's TV show pilots - for the animation is surprisingly pretty and smooth (smokestacks, cloth, etc) with great backgrounds throughout. I only watched it because it was produced by Sanrio, they of the also good Sea Prince & The Fire Child and the classic Ringing Bell, and I'm glad I did. A little gem.
Some of that 70's stuff looks pretty good, actually, but it's been too long since I watched Future Boy Conan to draw an accurate comparison.
Look on the bright side.

It's not Angel Beats at #7 shameful.

We don't talk about that any more. If you don't mention it, it didn't happen.
Also, I suppose I should make a comment about how bad Redline is on that list.
Better or worse than Angel Beat appearing on last years list?

Transmitting back to the mothership and it required the usage of crunchyroll bandwidth.
Try it now.

Nothing can beat the terribleness of last year's list.

Shin Mazinger Z 4

Pro-tip: Piloting a giant robot to fight some giant mechanical beast in the middle of the city may seem like all fun and games, but if you aren't careful, people WILL die.

The opening montage and the convo between Mei and Kouichi are subtly different, in addition to the fact that Mei actually goes and tell Kouichi how it ends. I don't know the significance of it now but nothing in this show has been shown coincidentally so far.

Welcome back, nakama! Here's your eyepatch!

Ben-To 12: Eh.

Ben-To Fin: Awesome premise that ended up settling for mediocrity. I'm not usually one to argue against fanservice, but the show definitely took a nosedive the moment it stopped focusing on the wacky super market hijinx and put the wacky harem hijinx on the forefront. The second half of the show feels less like a shounen anime and more like Satou building his harem, even up until the last fight.

I wouldn't say no to a second season, but to say that this one wasn't a disappointment would be a lie. The implosion after such a strong start is what makes the pandering feel more hurtful. It doesn't help that the show still tried to play the stupidity of fighting over boxed-lunches seriously after it became more comedy-oriented.

There's still plenty to like. Ben-To has a style, and even the bland character designs seem to make the setting more outlandish. And yes, it is amazingly well-animated and the fighting choreography is outstanding. I even liked some of the fanservice moments (episode nine was fap-worthy), it's just the overall combination that leaves me wishing for more.

Ben-To is like a half-priced boxed lunch, I guess. Half of it is really tasty and alluring, while the other half is just reheated filler that's not offensive to the palate or inedible, just bland. I give this show three grilled eels out of five.

If it got another season, shit would get so real. How the characters become later on is just too good to pass up, not to mention all the cool new people they introduce.

I just remain hopeful. However, even if they got a S2, I still doubt they would get enough budget to push it as hard as it needs to be pushed to be truly great.

You...you do? Not sure if serious.

Yes. It was one of my favorite releases of 2010. I love the concept of mixing a mundane but realistic slice of life school drama about teenage girls along with a metaphorical fantasy world of conflict and battle based on their inner emotions and angst born from insecurities and distrust. Also, I loved the designs and art direction. There was something about the animation which felt less refined and corrected, but very warm and charming.

Re: Ben-To soundtrack: Only like two songs are actually great. Mellow and soothing music is not Taku Iwasaki's forté.

I very much disagree with you on that. I think that he does it extremely well; many of the sax quartet pieces are some of the best on the entire soundtrack. If you went in expecting TTGL I think anyone would be disappointed, but after his work on Katanagatari, it's more in vein with that, and overall, I think they were definitely really good in addition to the blood-pumping music as well.

holy fucking shit Nana Mizuki rocking the charts

I actually didn't realise it was by the same director of TTGL until after someone pointed it out. Maybe ambience music is not my thing.

Also, in the MAL article for the sales data, what does "Temporal Blu-ray + DVD Sales Rankings in Autumn 2011" mean? It says "(first volumes)" next to it, but then the Chihayafuru entry on that list says "(vol.2)". So which is it? Or is Chihayafuru just a special case?

Anyway, the real fun will be next week when we get the data for the first volume of Guilty Crown.

I'd have to agree with that. Didn't feel like they were beating me over the head with trying to be creepy as much as the previous two eps. The constant barrage of random doll faces was a culprit of this and thankfully they didn't do that in this episode. The dialouge was slightly less stilted, but still kept a good level of unnaturalness at appropriate times, rather than the previous episodes where almost every conversation was attempting to seem overly "creepy". In general it was a more interesting episode that I think worked out a few kinks with regards to the direction and atmosphere.

there's about 4... maybe 5 shows from that top 10 that i enjoyed

hmmmm

It's a pretty bad list. Two of the shows on it shouldn't even be on any list that isn't "worst anime of 2011," and several of them are probably way too high. And then there are several good to great anime films which didn't even make the top 10.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=439791

As a quick reminder for everyone, the top ten were as follows:
1) Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
2) Durarara!!
3) The Tatami Galaxy
4) The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
5) K-On!!
6) Princess Jellyfish
7) Angel Beats!
8) Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai
9) Shiki
10) Katanagatari

The list started out good, and then the more I read the more I lost my composure.

Or, yuri with fighting.

Mirai Nikki 15

Flawless adaptation of the corresponding chapters. So intense. Great start to the 8th's arc. Can't wait for shit to really hit the fan.

I honestly like the new OP. Some good foreshadowing and a nice scene with the 8th. ED was meh though.

Natsume Yuujinchou Shi 04
Wow, I'm really just head over heels for this episode. It's a well mixed bittersweet concoction delivered in a very succinct and mature manner. And my god, the background art for this show is just stunning.

The main youkai in this episode had a great design. It probably helps that he's so well humanized and generally likable.

When the fuck did I get kicked out? :(

Huh? Oh, don't worry about it now. <3

Musings on Another 03:

The more I think about, the more unhappy I am about the convo between Mei and Kouichi. This part stands out the most in my mind:

Near the end, Kouichi's phone suddenly goes off because his grandma's worried about him because he didn't come home at the usual time. He chats with grandma a bit, then hangs up and he looks over and sees the old woman suddenly there. Mei then immediately comments, "I hate those devices. You can be found and caught wherever you are." He and Mei stand up, and then the old woman says "It's closing time." He looks back, and Mei has vanished.

Now Higurashi in particular was famous for "letting things slip" which turn out to be red herrings, so in my mind this can't be anything other than intentional. Whether it's a red herring or not, we'll see. But from this short sequence, it is strongly implied that the old woman is in fact Mei. The old woman is able to make herself invisible while playing the role of Mei. The cell phone going off caused the old woman to lose her concentration, and she became visible to Kouichi. However, she was still embodying Mei, and so then she commented on how she hated cell phones as Mei. She realizes her mistake and brings the convo to an abrupt close, leaves Mei's form, and re-enters herself. Then she tells Kouichi it's closing time.

IF the sequence is being truthful, then we now know several things.

(1) The old woman is Mei, or rather she takes the form of Mei and temporarily abandons her own.
(2) The old woman can't disembody her physical form, it is idle and therefore vulnerable when she is Mei.
(3) The link between old woman and Mei can be broken in various ways. It seems to require a great deal of concentration to maintain that link.
(4) If the old woman is the cause of the curse and the killings, the best way to kill her would be to find her while she is Mei and kill her while she is helpless and vulnerable while in the form of Mei.

Of course, the staff could just be fucking with us at this point.

At least Chihayafuru's doing better than Kaiji... :(

Surely that's a good thing? Assuming Kaiji did just as badly first time out, that got a second season.

NTV's Tuesday night anime slot has never been about the sales. I suspect the only time they've really lucked out on that front has been Nana, which is a massive mainstream hit in every format it appears in.

I think you're jumping too quickly to assuming supernatural explanations for everything, like an actual witch killing people.
The only person who has died so far basically killed herself due to an accident.

Also, that death scene clearly reveals that they can see Misaki. She isn't a ghost, they're just attempting to ignore her, possibly due to her association with the city's legend. Now, there should be supernatural elements eventually, but I don't think they're extremely relevant at this point.

[Symphogear ep. 03]

A new challenger appears!

[Mirai Nikki ep. 15]

Yuno turning up the crazy up to 11. I love it.

My... what a large sword you have.

The fight in this episode is full of hilarious misunderstandings.
Taking Madoka's failed attempts at catching the blade and chocking the Ovid as some secret Earth fighting techniques lol.

"Lan, you smell like Jersey Club Spirit!" Madoka sure knows how to word dem pep talks.

Yuri ai ~~

Looks like next episode they'll introduce the final boss, or someone who will play the role until the real boss arrives.

Poyo's such a boss.

[Rinne no lagrange ep. 03]

Looks like next episode they'll introduce the final boss, or someone who will play the role until the real boss arrives.

Remember this is only the first half of the show airing this season, with the second half airing in July, so probably the second.

I sort of agree with you but...
I just flicked on the subs to see if they'd interpreted it as I did when I was watching it and they said it was "none of them can see me, what if you're the only one who can see me?", but if you look at the verb she used, ok I'm probably wrong but I think she was more saying "I don't appear/show myself to them, what if we assume that I only appear/show myself to you?" I think this changes the meaning of the scene because just before she said she didn't exist.

What if she shows herself/appears to kouichi all the time, but even though people know of her presence, she doesn't actually appear for anyone else? That's why I think Yukari got so scared as she's never seen her before but knows the stories. That's why she would run off and trip like that as the fear got her

Daily Lives of High School Boys ep 3
I'm guessing the moving clouds are a equivalent to gintama's still house shot.
This ep is quite weak but Hidenori's monologue saved it. lol they're making fun of girl's nichijou.

Yeah, you voted for it along with Heroman & Angel Beats last year, so I'm going to go with still not believing you unless that was some kind of mixed trolling.

Also, pizzaroll apparently voted for Tantami Galaxy, so it must have been a bad year. :p

BRS was the only title in my list that wasn't a joke. :(
