Wait ... why was Kosmo banned?! You know he was referencing a very specific incident.

Well, never let it be said that Kosmo doesn't get his talking points from Fox News.

Steve Jobs' widow will be sitting besides Michelle Obama at SOTU

Conversational implicature is a neat little trick. What he said was not literally racist. What he should reasonably expect it to imply, on the other hand...Opiate, you have a point, but he didn't say anything racist at all. Negative towards drug users and union people, but not specifically black people at all.
I am pretty thoroughly tired of the Cult of Jobs. The fuck?
It doesn't help that Kosmo's past posts have also had a bit of these 'ambiguous' dog-whistles.
The fuck?
Yes, but its a slippery slope. I'm not defending what Kosmo said but rather the type of unexpected and undesired effects it can have on dialogue and conversation in this thread.
The rush of some of you to label people racist or whatever is embarrassing. It just shows how conditioned you are. I once got called racist because I said Mrs. Obama was ugly.
He will reference the Buffet rule but she doesn't need to be there lol
No, it should not. It is your responsibility to not play with fire. For readers, it's absrud to ask them to wait and not be offended until they are absolutely sure that this enormously racist or sexist or offensive comment wasn't just a reference to something.
You cannot hide behind referential humor to shield yourself in all cases. The concept has limits, particularly on a message board. As an extreme example, if I just came in and said "All you black people are stupid," and then thirty minutes later pointed to some joke eddie murray made in 1973 and omg how did you guys not remember that, I've clearly crossed the line. Disclaimer: I am not suggesting this specific incident with two auto workers is that obscure, the example is deliberately extreme to prove the point.
Simple solution to this problem: don't make racist jokes at all. That way, you don't have to hope that everybody "gets it."
Also, I don't understand when making money by working became worse than making money by not working in the conservative world view, even when the former are drinking alcohol or smoking pot.
Exactly. Kosmo always skates on thin ice. Maybe he'll tone it down after the unban. It doesn't help that Kosmo's past posts have also had a bit of these 'ambiguous' dog-whistles.
Yeah, that's pretty sad.
I personally would not want to be associated with Steve Jobs, but Obama (probably more his campaign staff) wants to try to associate with the cult of apple... Not for the stances Steve took, but due to his popularity.
The fuck?

With her being there the media will probably talk more about the Buffett Rule. The media loves props like that. Without it, it may only be a foot note.![]()
Oh, it's been going on for quite a while. Also, I don't understand when making money by working became worse than making money by not working in the conservative world view, even when the former are drinking alcohol or smoking pot.
It was dumb "undercover" reporting anyway, worthy of Fox News standards of course. Workers drinking during breaks omg Union workers are lazy potheads. Also, I don't understand when making money by working became worse than making money by not working in the conservative world view, even when the former are drinking alcohol or smoking pot.
Yes, who cares about the people who actually invest in the company who paid for those jobs...why should they be given any protection when we have people downing 40's and smoking weed at lunch to protect!?
Wonder why no one does a report on CEO's and corporate executives on what they do all day in their office.

Laurene Powell Jobs has done quite a bit for education in America. She was also appointed by Obama in December 2010 to be a Member of the White House Council for Community Solutions, which is charged with advising the President on the best ways to help communities across America solve important social challenges around education and job creation. And she sits on the boards of directors of Teach for America and Global Fund for Women.
I don't think she's there because Steve died. She's very accomplished, but posters like you will dwarf anything she's done because you don't like her deceased husband.
You can't play golf in an office, silly.

Hidden cameras? Yeah, that'd be eye opening.Wonder why no one does a report on CEO's and corporate executives on what they do all day in their office.
Oh, I'm sure you're so right. Her being at the speech has nothing to with her dead husband, but everything to do with some fluffy appointments on some corporate boards.
And I'm back. Oh the irony of the last half hour.
I am pretty thoroughly tired of the Cult of Jobs.
So basically he probably would have been a lot less likely to have gotten banned if he put that news video in his post, right?
On a side note, Chris Christie is going to veto the approval of gay marriage in NJ if it makes it to his desk. His reasoning, its too big of a decision, it needs to be a constitutional amendement. I'm failing to see where in the NJ constitution marriage is distinguished as between a man and a woman
Which I'm sure will be germane to the SOTU. Admittedly, I wasn't aware of her various professional achievements, but if she's mentioned at all I imagine it will be with respect to some lazy analogy about how America needs to be more like apple. It might have nothing to do with Steve Jobs, she is active in various charity & women's issues.
Baggins, you fucking racist. (tongue, cheek.)![]()
C'mon. I had to.

Between this PPP look at Minnesota and the Gallup national tracker swing, I think my comment the other day about Newt's national momentum translating to state level success is probably coming true. I think much will depend on Florida. If Newt takes that state, then his momentum will carry over to other states even without the groundwork and money that Romney has put in. Romney is entering full-on panic mode.
Newtmentum baby!
lol, this is the best thing I've ever seen in politics. On one side you have Obama, the real deal, the genuine article. He is everyone's President. On the other, the self aggrandizing lobbyist, the shameless hypocrite that was run out of town on ethics charges, the poster boy for phony, slimy GOP politics.
You would think this would be impossible. I know the GOP has no sense of irony, but those fucking guys are too much with this one. I thought as it went along, there was no way he would be in the conversation in Florida.
Nah, no way it's gonna happen.
What bold leadership.
As Democrats held a hearing this afternoon in Trenton on a gay marriage bill, Republican Gov. Christie held a press conference in Bridgewater with a surprise announcement: He wants the gay marriage question put on the November ballot as a proposed constitutional amendment.
Otherwise, he said, he will veto the Democrats' bill. Alternatively, a statewide referendum would be the most democratic way to make such a sweeping societal change, he said.

This is why the Oxford comma needs to be used.Chris Christie said:"It's bigger than just the word" marriage, he said. "It's hundreds of years of tradition, both legally, societally and religiously. And that's what I'm standing up for."
Which I'm sure will be germane to the SOTU. Admittedly, I wasn't aware of her various professional achievements, but if she's mentioned at all I imagine it will be with respect to some lazy analogy about how America needs to be more like apple.

Such an unflattering picture.
Fuck the Oxford comma. This is why the Oxford comma needs to be used.
I'd say blind is a more apt charge than racist; not that you can't be both, mind you.The rush of some of you to label people racist or whatever is embarrassing. It just shows how conditioned you are. I once got called racist because I said Mrs. Obama was ugly.
Perhaps Romney was banking on that? Or was it a fortuitous development? Regardless, I imagine an attack by Obama would benefit him in the primaries. It may even compel the other candidates to defend him lest they appear as Obama acolytes.Chuck Todd (on Morning Joe) had the same reaction as me to Mitt releasing his taxes today. They were tying to bury it in post-debate and SOTU coverage but they pretty much teed it up for Obama
Fuck the Oxford comma.
You have made a powerful grammatical enemy today!
But seriously, how would that help in this situation?
Ah, I did not know that. Thanks for posting that, also gives a pretty good excuse to have her there![]()
