NFL Super Bowl XLVI |OT| Matchup More Unwanted Than Madonna's Halftime Show

Most of our big plays are generated by Ben scrambling around and holding the ball to buy our receivers time. It goes both ways. There is a reason Ben has a great YPA.

Also prior to this year as many of the sacks were to be blamed on play calling and the personnel as Ben holding onto it for forever. I mean when Hines Ward is your possession receiver the qb is going to get sacked a lot.

We do have some holes in our line, but they actually played really well for the few games we had a stable lineup in October. But our team is old and busted and everyone got injured near the end of the season, including the line.

I think most recognize the Steelers line sub par, and Ben as a savant in extending the plays and hitting home runs. It's just that he hams it up for the crowd. He wants everyone to know he's hurt and plays it up. He's a drama queen, and a very good football player

Well, when Kemo, Scott and Essex are gone for next season, we'll see how well they catch on with other teams around the league. That is if Arizona doesn't pick them all up.

The Giants offensive line is not very good. MacKenzie in particular gets beat all the time in protection. And our run blocking has been crap all year, which I think is the biggest reason behind the Giants winding up with the worst rushing attack in the NFL.

One nice upside for the Giants in pass protection is that Bradshaw and Jacobs are both fantastic at blocking for Eli.

I swear this is the calling card of the Giants NFC East rivals for the most part. Go to any Eagles/Cowboys (Redskins less so so I'll leave them out of this) board and everything is about the Giants being the luckiest team ever.

I said it before - I'll take supposed luck and wins over "skill" and losses.

Frankly, I don't think you get to the Super Bowl and have the types of runs the Giants had in '07 and '11 without some level of luck and things breaking their way in some instances. I think you can say that about most teams that move on to the Super Bowl.

Not on the Eagles board. On their official board you will find some idiots talking about luck but majority of the posters are jealous, admire the Giants as an organization, and spewing hot fire at Reid, Lurie, and Juan. Especially because no changes have been made whatsoever.

Why did the Steelers give up on Urbik so quickly? I know they liked Legursky, especially since he can play center better than Urbik, but why not keep Urbik around for at least another year.

He's not perfect, but better than average and can really fuck shit up in the run game. Bills lucked out.

Tried to hide him on the practice squad, but he didn't clear waivers.

Hahahahaha, oh ok so he's back to not even being league worthy?

Not a starter. Read that piece. It's NFL Films. Unlike every almost every columnist talking out of his ass, that was written by a guy who has access to the All 22. He can actually see whether or not the WRs are getting open

Why are you guys so attached to Alex? Don't you want at least an average QB to go along with your great coach, ST, and defense?

Half of the sacks are on Ben for holding onto the ball too long looking for the home run play, but are you saying that our oline does not suck?

Not that you seem to need a good oline to win the Superbowl these days.

Also I also kind of felt the Niners got hosed on that fumble call (most of the time they call that a fumble), but whatever the refs suck. Don't let it come to that.

Your offensive line is significantly better than it is given credit for. Part of the perception is having to play the Ravens twice a year, which is no fun, and the other part if having a guy who is willing to hold onto the ball forever.

They are hot fucking garbage in the run game though. Pass pro they are better than average. Want a fuck-awful line? Go watch the Bears or the Dolphins.

No Niners fan is all of a sudden a resounding Smith apologist, nor am I saying he's all of a sudden at Top 10 guy. Nor is anyone even saying he played a flawless game on Sunday. But Top 10 guys don't grow on trees, and Smith has done incredible things this year. Enough to deserve another year in a formula that is working with a coach that is making him better, and better utilize his talents. Especially if the receiving core is improved, which is desperately needs to be.

And please about that Cossell article, as if he's some damned authority. Where's the discussion on the weather conditions affected? Where's the discussion on the two erred throws by Eli, overthrowing Cruz and going for Nicks too high? Where's the discussion on Smith's two TD throws, both pinpoint and one of which traveled 20+ yards while it was still pouring?

Looking at film and referencing three mis-throws by a QB who everyone knows is NOT going to all of sudden turn flawless and hit every single throw, is laughable. Especially if you just completely ignore any tangible variables involved.

Been gratifying to see former Bills stars make some plays early in these playoff games only to drop the ball in crunch time. I'm going to attribute those INT-killing collisions to Donte Whitner since those plays reminded me of him.

Mac has hit the age wall quickly this season. He was one of our best, if not the best lineman we had last season. Especially run blocking where he was a monster. It was bound to happen eventually. We'll see if this Brewer kid we drafted last season is up to the task of taking over that spot.

Snee has had a poor season as well. I think he still has plenty left in the tank but he has been dealing with some injuries and he just isn't the mauler he has been in previous seasons. Not likely to go anywhere with Coughlin being his father in law.;)

Baas has ranged from average to downright bad. He gets very little in the way of forward push and inside pressure can be had on us because he gets thrown around at times in pass protection. He's been a disappointment considering the money he was given in the offseason. It says something when I prefer to see Boothe in the middle even with some of the snapping issues he's had. He's simply a better blocker.

Petrus should have the opportunity to take over at LG next season. Diehl is actually better in the running game than Beatty but Will proved to be a far better LT in pass protection. If Diehl does return it should be as a backup at best. Beatty needs to toughen up in his run blocking but I thought he was well on his way in the pass protection department when he was healthy this season.

Speaking of which, how has the other Pouncey brother worked out for the Dolphins? I haven't watched much of them this season.

Tried to hide him on the practice squad, but he didn't clear waivers.

Risky move, guess they wanted depth elsewhere and he was the most expendable. Shame, he would've really helped out this year.

Giants were getting torn up on wheel routes. They hit one for a TD, just missed Delanie Walker on another, and then there's the one documented by Cosell. Have to get it fixed before SB.

As with most things it is on a game to game basis. There was a point in this season where the line was actually a strength and was actually really good in pass pro and above average in the running game. That was when everything was working on offense and defense and we looked like a SB contender. Injuries can fuck with anything good though and just because you are playing well one month or a previous season doesn't mean it will continue that way forever.

There are also games where our line and game play calling have been total failures. There have been games where they have been fine and Ben just didn't deliver.

I don't think anyone will argue that the Bears have a worse o-line than us and infinitely shittier receivers. We can all agree that looking at those facts we have to anoint Cutler the best qb in the division based on his results and looking at what he has to work with.

I've been harassing the single Ravens fan in our office all week about Lee Evans.

"You're welcome!"

Legs is not a good center (he is serviceable but he can't handle the big NTs one on one) but he is a great backup and seemingly plays the other positions better than some of our starters.

Yeah the only one you know who will survive this offseason is Snee.

Mckenize- Definitely gone
Baas- Probably staying since the money is already invested in him
Boothe-Will stay as a backup
Diehl- Pretty much gone
Beatty- Will probably stay by default of having no one else.

The Giants need to draft at least 2 OL men with one being starter material.

ESPN reported earlier Tuesday that Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is the leading candidate to get the head coaching job in Oakland.

A report from our friend Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com has more information, saying Allen is one of three finalists for the job. It’s down to Allen, Packers linebackers coach Winston Moss, and a “mystery candidate.” McKenzie says the process could end by Saturday.

So who is the "mystery man" NFL GAF?*

Giants defensive players went into the game saying that they had to get their hands on the tight ends. Contest every route by Davis and Walker (who killed us in the first game) and from what I noticed, they didn't do that at all. They played off and were late breaking on some of those routes with the safety not doing a good job of providing help. I'll have to look tonight on Game Rewind but that's from memory.

What's odd is that they played guys like Gonzales and Finley very differently. Gonzales in particular was being mauled at the line of scrimmage for a healthy portion of that Falcons game and it worked.

I dont know how true this is but Dan Klecko was on the radio the other day and he said the Raiders have never hired a defensive coach to be their HC, so he didnt think they would hire Capers.

Not sure how this has any bearing considering no one who made those hires is in a position of authority any longer.

Leave Alex Smith alone!

All he needs is some better receivers and about 4 more years in Hairballs system.

By then the 49ers defense should have lost some talent and be on it's way down.

I'm not positive on some of the finer points of Baas' contract, but I would be alright with cutting ties with him after this season if the cap penalties aren't too bad. I know he's dealt with a lot of injuries this year, but even early on when he was completely healthy he was never impressive. Some of the O-line's best games arguably came when he was on the sidelines. He's due a ton of money in the later years, way more than is deserved for the mediocre production he has put forward so far.

Hahaha, yeah.

Felt bad for Evans though, but the dude is soft, has always been soft. Still a shame though.

Whitner is such a douchebag, but part of that is his draft slot. Felt/feels he had to prove everyone wrong, none stop chatter on twitter, and inconsistent play on the field. The hit on Thomas is vintage Whitner, make a great play and then pose for the cameras before the play is over. Luckily his teammates recovered the ball.

Legs is not a good center (he is serviceable but he can't handle the big NTs one on one) but he is a great backup and seemingly plays the other positions better than some of our starters.

Right, but he's better than Urbik in a pinch at C. Versatility was a factor in waving Urbik, no question.

Those are fair points. My principle objection the past few days is that Alex' WRs can't get open. Thanks to the NFL's absurd policy on the coaches' film, none of us really know if WRs are getting open downfield. About the best we can do is go by those who have access to that film, and what we can see as far as getting off the line against press coverage.

Omg tom brady threw no tds and 2 picks in the afc title game! Alex smith has as many playoff wins as tom since 2008! Brady is a backup at best!

Ravens Kicking Consultant Can’t Rule Out New England Patriots Cheating In AFC Championship

Billy Cundiff didn’t know what down it was on Sunday when he rushed on to the field to try and kick a game tying field goal in the AFC Championship game, and it wasn’t his fault.

Baltimore Ravens kicking consultant Randy Brown told Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team today on 94 WIP that the scoreboard in New England was incorrect during that final drive. “The scoreboard was one down behind, the entire last three plays, from what we understand,” Brown said. That caused Billy Cundiff to have to rush on to the field with just seconds left on the play clock to try and make the kick, which he missed.

When Cataldi asked Brown if he thought the Patriots did it it on purpose to gain an advantage, Brown replied, “I don’t think you can rule anything out in New England, can you?”

Also, what the hell does a kicking consultant do?

Baas gets way too much heat. Not one offensive lineman played well yesterday, as Boothe also got his ass kicked. Petreus almost got Eli when Baas was out of the game. I mean Petreus is a good run blocker, but his pass blocking his horrendous, and well the Giants are a passing team now. Baas when healthy has played some damn good games (second Boys game against ALLWORLD Ratliff). Also, remember he had the flu on Friday.

Other issue that you fail to mention is that the TE's are probably the worst in the league at pass blocking. Ballard was a suprise in how well he caught the ball, yet he's a zero in run support.
