I really should add a New People section to the OP shouldn't I
That guide really isn't aimed for beginners when they have no idea about what does which etc.
One of the first things it mentions is animation cancelling. Brilliant.
For new players, how to spend your starting gold.
People on gaf should help write a newcomer friendly, non-hostile introduction guide. None of that immensely pathetic "welcome to dota you suck" mentality. No fucking shit you suck at a game you've never played before.
"Welcome to Street Fighter 5, you know none of these combos you god damn dipshit sell the game"
Takes the guy 5+ minutes to say "one tango will not be enough regen; buy a salve too!"
It's a poor guide that can be written to actually cater to people that have no idea about Moba games.
I have to confess, stuff like this is only making it harder for me to get into the game. I just need a video that teaches me the rules, gives me a few starter tactics, and lets me loose. That's why I wish the tutorials had been implemented.
I'm having such a hard time understanding this game because every guide I'm finding seems to take forever to get to the point.

There is a reason the guides are in depth.
I think you are the exception that proves the rule.
Depth is fine. But I literally know nothing about the game, and all this info is incredibly intimidating.
Honestly, I don't think I'm going to learn anything without a tutorial. I'm so lost 2 minutes into every video I'm watching.
The rule being?
Did you check out the video I posted? Its as simple as it gets.

The rule being most new people to moba games have no idea about many of the conventions. The easiest example being last hitting.
A guide aimed at noobs first tries to explain animation cancelling rather than talk about fog of war, turrets and last hitting; three things infinitely more useful to cancelling your animation from 1.4 seconds to 1.1.
SupportSounds akin to a guide for SFIV, and teaching about FADC and super armor before explaining specials, supers, ultras, and basic blocking.
HK, thanks a lot for that video. That was actually really helpful. I knew some of the basics around the game, but don't know basic stuff like what items to start with, etc etc.
What type of character should a new player try? Ganker?
Hey meteorain, nice 100 cs in a 50 minute game. You're garbage kid get good.

Is there a page that lists what all the character types mean? I saw no glossary in DOTA 2 itself.

Why are they streaming mouz over Na'Vi ;(
Navi is on the Premier League. Why would Tobi cast it?
Weird lineup there from Middle School. I think the Grizzled Ancients got this. Sad I missed the start, their website said it started at 2PM PSTBungie guys playing right now.
Riki ban, tee hee.

Here is my tips on what to get at the start:
I wonder that myself. Some people manage to farm insanely fast...God damn AM with 15 minute treads, midas, and battlefury. I could never farm like that on my best games, how the hell do people do that.
Here is my tips on what to get at the start:
Tried to join my first game. Made it to the character selection, but it wouldn't let me choose anything. I clicked on Crystal Maiden and clicked "Choose Character" but nothing happened. Tried "Random" and nothing happened. Game started and I was still in the character screen and couldn't get out. Everyone else in-game had a character and were starting the match. Had to leave.
Really have no clue whatsoever on what I'm doing.
