Only just started this, and wow! It really is The Mentalist meets Dexter like they said on the TRS podcast.

Really wasn't that keen on the first episode for some reason, but the characters have really came on and (that awful sidekick aside) are really quite interesting. Man some of the villains are dark though, every episode it just ramps up the darkness.

How many episodes of this are there? More than what's on Netflix?

She is so plain, but there is something about her. Those eyes, perhaps. Absolutely gorgeous.

It's the total pakage, sort of.

If I see one hot girl at the bar, but she has empty eyes, you can tell she is going to give you a plain conversation and is more interested in what drink your going to buy her and what car you drive. Probably boring in bed.

Another girl at the bar is just cute, but has those "do me like i wronged you in some way" eyes, likes to laugh, and drove her own car, might even buy you the first round.

I'm going with Alice over the obvious hot chic.

As for the show looking weak and low budget. I don't know many high budget British shows. Hell misfits and IT Crowd are incredibly low budget, I'm waiting for the boom mic to show up in the screen every once in a while. I think I actually did see the filming crew once or twice in the show Coupling. To compare to american shows though, we can have a huge budget with great sets and cgi and explosions. But some of the weakest plots lines, dialogue and acting.

Another strength these shows have is better music. Misfits has people downloading and buying music.

Luther doesn't have sensational music but it has great mood setting music.

I feel like Abed from community when i realize how few episodes each season of these shows air.

I honestly prefer watching a good british show over an american one honestly.

I don't think it's in the same ballpark as even the middle-of-the-road American series.

Do you honestly think it's comparable to what's on American TV?

Kinda late to this, but that's a joke post right?

Holy fuck.

Just finished season 1. I love how the show starts off as a cop procedural then pulls the fucking rug out from under you with episodes 5 & 6. Christ.

Finished S2 after putting it off for a few months. It was great and in some way better than S1. I really hope they decide to come back for another series and that it's longer than both S1 and 2.

Just finished S2. Great stuff. I need some thingS explained though:

How did he know where to tell the SWAT team to shoot? And how did he communicate that to his boss?

Wouldn't CCTV have seen Jenny dumping Toby's car? That seems like a huge plothole especially when Frank denies killing him. Unless we're to assume he just ran away?

Neil Cross, creator of the BBC's psychological crime drama "Luther", says that the character may be popping up on the big screen.

"There's a strong possibility there will be a 'Luther' movie in the near future" Cross tells Variety. Before that though will be a third series of the show which will also likely be the last as star Idris Elba "is a busy man".

Cross, who also worked on hit spy thriller series "Spooks", also confirmed he penned the current draft of del Toro's alien invasion film "Pacific Rim" for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Just finished the first 3 eps of Season 1. So far :

- Elba's performance is just great
- His Moriarty's not so much. I love redheads and can get past the frog-mouth but her acting so far is really meh
- Each case is set up very well. On the other hand, resolutions/endings have been a real let-down
- Some characters have ludicrously irrational behaviours and take actions that make no sense at all. The blond chick leading the police squad is especially bad.

Spoilers for S1Ep2
- Detective : I have a bad feeling about this phone number. Why would a prisoner put only one number in his contacts ? After all he's got all the time in the world to remember it. It's like he wanted us to track this specific number !
- Superior officer : this is our only lead and we follow all leads. Let's follow up with the plan and send these 10 nameless cops in the abandoned house where the phone belonging to this crazy murdering ex-commando is supposed to be. What's the worst that could happen ?

[cue to face shots of all main and secondary characters waiting behind cars]
[cue to nameless faceless extras entering the house]
[cue to house blowing-up]
[cue to facepalm]

- Detective : it's all my fault ! I've been had !
- Superior officer : it's not your fault. No one could have done anything about it.

[oh god]

This time, get some writers that can live up to Idris Elba's performance.

I will wait to finish the season but so far this sums up my feelings pretty well.

Just finished S2. Episode 5 with the Sia Breathe Me finale is still the absolute best.

I know this is old, but that finale just fell flat with the song for me since I'd seen the Six Feet Under finale before it. The use of that song in the ending practically had me in tears. It was pretty much perfect.

The last 2 episodes are fantastic.

They were intense for sure and kept me entertained. And there's enough good stuff in there that I want to see what happens in S2. But that's a close call : the script is really weak and some characters are so badly written they become laughable : Rose especially has to be the most stupid, useless, incompetent chief police officer I've ever seen in a series. Which would be fine if she was meant to be.

God god, just finished the first 3 episodes. I love this show. The relationship between Luther and Alice is stunning. Just gobsmacking.

Gets much much better.

Damn you for making me think there was more news about season 3 :(

It's mind boggling british cops don't have guns. In the standoff in episode 4, with the guy with the hammer, as soon as he lunged, I was expecting gun shots lol. It's crazy that they're in there with no guns. To me, anyway.

Just got around to watching the first season and wow, is this show awesome or what? I really need to get on the rest of them. It always strikes me as odd that he seems to realize things incredibly quickly(like the CSI guy), and it's a tad bit breaking, but oh well.

Great show.

Season 3? Is there a season 2? :o

Else, damn you for your typo!

Edit: holy fuck there's a season 2. Why the fuck didn't anyone tell me, and why didn't this topic get bumped in my subscriptions? NICE. BUT STILL: FUCK

OMG Season 2 is better than season . Bail out of here until you finish 2.

Kind of related, the BBC has a new four part heist thriller called 'Inside Men' staring two actors from Luther starting this Thursday on BBC1:

I expected a preview for Season 3 or something and came in to rage for bumping the thread. But you gave me Inside Man, it looks good so I'll definitely check it out.

All caught up, S2 had better villains, but less Alice. Basically, more Alice! Just give them a full blown romance already. So dirty.
